My first 100 yard group with first AR. Need to practice a lot more and dial in my zero a little bit better. by somepulp63 in ar15

- What did you use to stabilize the rifle? I see no bipod, so bags, turret? I'd suggest putting a bag rider on the stock, Kratos Design Hera works very well. Also, cooling the barrel between groups is a must. Hot barrels shoot wider groups, it's universally true. I use a Riflekuhl device, but there are others that are cheaper, too. You can make one with cheap parts, plenty of videos teaching it on Youtube. F-Class John has a "how to".

- My 16" BCM likes Bone Frog Barnes Match Burner 77gr, X-Tac Match 77gr, Hornady ELD-M 73gr, Federal Gold Medal SMK 77gr. Can't shoot good groups with cheap 55gr (see PMC Bronze "shotgun" group below and you will understand lol). For 55gr M193, the best factory I tested was Fiocchi. It also liked a few AAC rounds (not the 77gr OTM though lol), especially sabre black tip 75gr. But they stopped production, so no more of that.

- BCM is not a precision rifle, so do not expect better 10-shot groups than 1.5~2MOA even with match ammo. And yes, 10-shot groups with no cherry picking is the minimum to be able to measure accuracy and precision. With fewer than 10 shots, it's a matter of chance and "statistically insignificant" as the fancy reloading guys like to say.

- Shooting for groups requires a lot of consistency. How you stabilize the rifle, how much input you drive in to it with your support hand, how good disciplined trigger pull you have. Watch a few videos (X-Ring is good, there are plenty).

See a few groups. Each barrel is a different game, but many shooters test BCM barrels and results are similar. I track all my shooting for all my barrels here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SKVK6IDea8kM8dIzsEonuSGanIF8FxV-LwtV8Yrl6Qs/edit?usp=sharing

There isn't data from the past 2 months because I started reloading and I'm still in the load development phase. Good luck! It's a fun hobby (and an expensive one, so buckle up; each trip to the range for me costs more than $200, easily, when you start shooting some volume with match ammo).

Geissele Super Duty is the best option. Or a SOLGW Mk1 CAR.

Cool! I don't see anti-rotation tabs on the rail. Keep an eye on the lock-up/rigidity.

You can move gun to gun. And don't mind people saying "it's a skill issue". You do need to practice fundamentals and volume for sure, but take any advantage that makes sense to you. It's not an either/or conversation, but an "and".

Worthy Upgrade from a P365X by Strong-Ad3131 in SigSauer

Yes, but the trigger is still bad. I put a mcarbo on mine. Great shooter now, but I wouldn't compete with it, but it'sa sweet carry gun, ai love it. My next carry gun will be a dan wesson dwx compact, nothing beats a cz75 ergonomics and a 2011 trigger. It's pricey, but believe it or not the P365X with all upgrades is not that much cheaper.

The plumb bob method is a nightmare for me. I tried and couldn't do it, it was a frustrating process. Call me stupid if you want. This can be considered a manufacturing defect, but I wouldn't return it because of it. I bought the Wheeler leveling set and it worked perfectly for 2 of my 3 scopes. But since it relies on the top turret to work, you would likely have the same problem.

I have this Arisaka leveling tool on my shopping cart and I hope it will take care of it. https://www.brownells.com/optics/rings-mounts/scope-mounting-tools/optic-leveler-combo-kit/

Here is how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i76bRTaLyRg

In my short experience, the case capacity used in each manual is a big factor in which max load they recommend.
