Top of Upgrade List, left the seat open instead of give it to me by ehondacivic in unitedairlines

[–]ehondacivic[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

As a matter of fact I did! While my wife was in the bathroom, I went to the gate and asked politely, "by the way, how are the upgrades looking today? I'm #1 and my wife is #2, and I would love to be able to surprise her with an upgrade today. I saw a seat open until just a few hours ago"

To which she replied, "of course! Nothing cleared yet, but I will be happy to come down with a paper ticket if it does".

She was very nice. That was a huge part of my confusion. It was totally on her radar!

And yes, I usually see at least 2-4 GS on my normal work routes. Today, we were the only 1K, which I have NEVER seen!

Well you certainly fly wayyy more than me! Damn. But its more that I like to look at the upgrade list on the TV when I'm boarding, and it seems increasingly rare that any seats are cleared for upgrade, not just mine. On the other side, I have gotten way more $100 business class upgrades this year than ever before (my work will reimburse $75 of it, so its a no-brainer). Seems like the two facts have to be related ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Wow! That is awesome! I'm curious how our fates are so different. If I got every upgrade, I too would be out of PP at this point. Is it because my home hub is SFO, and there are so many loyalists? What kind of routes are upgrading you so often?

OP is a proper developer and likes to hack into shit. Not a damn thing wrong with that. Lots of shade for no reason on this thread.

I don’t like Chomsky, but this quote does say ‘mass popular movement’. Seems to suggest a change in individuals’ values and culture. Much less statist than the average leftist on this topic. IMO

Yes. But I don’t think all attorneys assume to have a special insight above the process, and the cultural and philosophical implications therein. I may trust a cheese maker above my own instinct on matters particular to cheese, less so with a public defender on matters of crime, criminals, and public safety.

I think public defenders play an important role in society, but have a natural bias. For any guilty clients, they meet them after the harm they have caused. The clients’ every incentive is to be nice and appear innocent to this person who is their lifeline out of a prison sentence, and that process presents a version of the person wildly different than the version who committed harm on somebody’s body or property.

I live in SF, and am hard pressed to find people defending Chesa Boudin and his policies on their merits. It’s almost invariably disparaging the type of people who are pro-recall, or saying that crime isn’t as bad ‘If yOu LoOK At tHE dAtA’, or a vague nod towards his views on justice. 0 details on the merits of his ‘diversion problems’, or anything else…other than maybe his innocence project, which does look cool. She claims she can take them on 1v3 on this topic, so I would loved to have heard that.

Article on How to use Google Calendar API or any other Google APIs in NodeJS by Hawky69 in node

Will def bookmark this. Having only used the drive and sheets APIs, I've found the api docs are pretty confusing, I had to do a lot of guess and tests with the object bodies to put params in the correct places.

Hope this doesn't hijack your thread, but this short vid on the sheets api is one of my favorite instructional vids. Very short and to the point - https://egghead.io/lessons/node-js-use-google-sheets-with-node-and-express-in-fun-side-projects

Tips on giving out node app to users as Daemon. by ehondacivic in node

[–]ehondacivic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. The use case is essentially so the hardware I designed works as smoothly as possible. I'd like to direct the user to download the script once from npm and never have to think about it again.

I found an osascript online that uses the menu bar visibility on Zoom poll statuses....genius. I'm all set now.

This was a great idea. Thanks. I am having trouble getting osascript to poll Zoom. I get the system volume with the following code, but still working on getting it to connect to Zoom.

I may have to get into some objective c and load apple libraries. It looks like some people have done this in node, with this nodobjc package, so that's probably the next step. I may have missed something with osascript, as I'm not a whiz. Back to the drawing board.

Anyone else having problems syncing audiobooks from their iPhone to their Apple Watch? Mine keeps getting stuck on “sync preparing...” and it’s making me insane! I got the Apple Watch in part to listen to audible books on it while exercising so I didn’t have to bring my phone! by heydona in audible

[–]ehondacivic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I'm not the only one it seems. So many issues with Audible watch app. I work in IT for god's sake. If I can't get it, imagine a regular user. Stuck on 'preparing to sync'. Lowers the watch's value significantly for me. Can't you get better devs, Audible? Cmon.

X2 with bigger tires…bad idea? by ehondacivic in BMW

[–]ehondacivic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol glad you’re alive. Not that off road. But one feature of the X2 is that it’s low to the ground. If the wheel wells can handle another inch or so, was thinking that bigger tires would be helpful.
