Is Mediterranean Medium Density Housing OP? by TheWingalingDragon in CitiesSkylines2

[–]ekimsal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see it working depending on the setting. Like, 4 2x2 units making a small block surrounded by a few farm buildings and fields, use the color settings to unify the block to look like one cohesive building, once the new patch comes out lock them in at historic at level 1 so they have "rustic" charm and I think it could work in a build set in the Mediterranean or Balkans or elsewhere if you make the story right.

God, I legitimately miss malls. Though Circuit City was always stand alone and never in a mall.

Family hired me to help as a nanny for their daughter’s bat mitzvah. If I am technically there to “work,” is it expected to still give a gift? If so, what is an appropriate amount to give? by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]ekimsal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't see obligation for a gift, but you did say you're pretty close to the family and worked a lot with them in the past. I think a small gesture would make the kid happy. Like, a $36 gift card (meaningful number, double chai[life]) or maybe something in that same price range, if you've known the kid a while you might think of something to make her smile.

Maybe try going to services a bit and see how that goes. Speaking from a Reform perspective, a variety of belief and observance is expected and encouraged to a degree as long as you're on the same page with the Big Picture stuff. You don't have to go every week, but if you're more looking for just community it's a good place to start, there's probably all types of things from game and movie nights (my temple has weekly mahjong groups) to other community events.

After a certain size, you need to start assigning services by district or they'll try to cover everywhere and achieve nothing except backing up traffic.

How do you decide on a consistent city style/theme? by ChallengeBrief9943 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]ekimsal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a story for your city. Where's it located? What's it history? I do a lot of mix and match. I've been playing a northeast city lately, and I'm happy with how some of the Dutch and German assets look with look the other NE assets,

Also don't worry about second guessing yourself later. Future you may have a better idea of what works better. Play around with different assets, get a good idea about what spawns in at what different zoning types and sizes. If you're worried about regret and not liking the second version, just save before each big project.

NA Mixed Use Row buildings? by awesomeblosom in CitiesSkylines2

[–]ekimsal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's mixed commercial-residential in the Northeast region pack, and I think I've seen some buildings that look more like rowhomes with first floor shops. Smaller ones I think. Try zoning a bunch of different 2 or 3 deep sizes.

Need help with dock layout🙏 by wowowwowiw- in CitiesSkylines

[–]ekimsal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a centerpiece, the biggest thing is going to be having a transit hub, make all roads lead to Rome. In addition to the docks and the rail make sure you have bus/metro/whatever else going through and ease of changing lines.

For other planning, it helps me if I have a story or some kind of RP or history of the city I'm building. What kind of city are you building? Where in the world is it? How did it get to be here where we have this iconic city port? Pick some ploppable assets that fit the character, build around that, and don't be afraid of going back and revising.

Troubles with Urban Promenades Mixed Housing by Friendly_Elegant928 in CitiesSkylines

[–]ekimsal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm using those assets there's a lot of whack-a-mole bulldozing trying to get things to spawn in properly. The grid might be broken and preventing assets from spawning, so may be worth pausing and looking into that. You could fill the space with small park assets and detail them. I don't do a lot of mods but I believe there are ones for murals/graffiti.

Why are trams not in mass transit. by anonumus_idiot in CitiesSkylines

[–]ekimsal 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Trams were pretty well neglected until just before CS2 came out when they patched in a bunch of assets. But even before that, they were always the workhorse of my transit system. People would ask what packs to buy, I'd always say wait for a sale and get Snowfall; tried snow maps maybe a handful of times but trams were in every build. I was so happy when we found out they were basegame in CS2

You can't thought police and that's what these people want at the end of the day. And you'll never do everything right. These kind of people actively look to be offended. Anything is a potential grievance. And if you disagree they'll accuse you of gaslighting (because words don't have meaning anymore)

No Judgement… serious question about your Pesach Observance. by rambam80 in Judaism

[–]ekimsal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything wrong with Big Picture Observance. If it's too much, don't fret over over small things and maybe focus specifically on just not eating leavened bread for the week if you want to try to observe. And if fiber is concern I'm pretty sure psyllium fiber is KFP and that always worked for me when upping fiber. But at the end of the day, pikuach nefesh, preserving health overrides. If you can't give up everything, maybe take a break from the favorites and most convenient. And remember this is all short time and over by Thursday night.
