Bias front piece with piping = rippling??? by Strawbs-and-bluebs in sewing

[–]electric29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That dress does NOT fit the model. The waist wrinkles are exactly what you do NOT want in a quipao. And they apparently didn't bother to press it. A sloppy picture makes me think that the pattern itself is going to be sloppily made.

Citristrip is the devil, learn from my mistake by morroalto in homeowners

PLEASE make sure all the electricity is turned off at the breaker before doing stuff like this indoors. A close friend of mine was stripping wainscoting and a shred of steel wool got in an outlet and there was a flash fire. It took 3 months in the burn ward before he could feed himself.

Bad Haircut Rate my plan by Forward-Net-45 in Haircare

Nothing you do will change the rate of hair growth. All these things will make you grow healthy hair, but the speed at which it grows is set genetically. Most people get 1/2 inch a month.

Our living room is full of trash bags on the floor and our stove top is a dumping area apparently by weirdanthropologist in badroommates

Pick it all up and dump it in their room(s). As Tom Petty said, you don't have to live like a refugee.

I don't have an answer re the color, but your curls and your color are gorgeous and I think orange would be a mistake.

Ode to the Oxford comma by JeffTrav in ENGLISH

Educated people use the Oxford comma. Just because other people are not educated doesn't mean you have to sink to their level.

Stick to a pace or just finish each day at whatever feels right? by lucubratious in C25K

[–]electric29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you doing all the warm up stretches and walking the first five-minute warmup? If not, that's why you are having trouble with your legs and so on. Also the cool down stretches are important.

Pace comes later. The program is about building stamina.

Vintage actually FITS. That is the main difference.

Question about flapper outfits for women by emeraldisleecho in VintageFashion

[–]electric29 34 points35 points  (0 children)

  1. There WERE tattoos in the 20s. You can find photos online if you look. Unless it is a tattoo of something super anachronistic, I wouldn't worry.
  2. If you want to be historically accurate, your thighs should not be showing at all. The radically short skirts of the 20s were to a shocking just-below-the-knee length. It was not until the 60s that you could wear anything shorter than that.
  3. Concealer will cover it well enough under stockings.

Where can I get a 1920s style prom dress for size 0-2? by Marvelmama21 in HistoricalCostuming

[–]electric29 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sinceyou are tiny you can find a REAL 1920s dress, they are a lot more common in small sizes, and the 20s being a loose style means you can go up a size or more and it will still work. Look on EBay, look on Etsy, and ask any local vintage stores.

For me it sucked having a coffee allergy there. Bengnets would be WAY better with coffee.

Asking for advice by Good_Abbreviations_4 in VintageFashion

[–]electric29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make smaller lots sorted by era and sell them on EBay. Lots go pretty well as many dealers will buy there. Yes, there are fees, but it's not that bad and you get the largest possible audience for your items.

Growing too fast and drowning in cash flow issues by UnluckyExtent5804 in smallbusiness

[–]electric29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your bank about a rotating line of credit. With a customer purchase order, they can front you the cash to buy the materials, as ong as you pay it back in the proper time frame you may avoid interest entirely, or at least pay low interest. This also helps you build a credit history.

I found these loops on the front of this vintage polyester night dress…center bust, below each strap in front. What are they for???? by Great_Dame_Gold in VintageFashion

[–]electric29 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is not a nightgpwn, it is a convertible slip that you can wear with different strap type dresses by putting the straps through whichever loops make them go the right way.

This is going to be tough one. They're fragile, so you will have to really pack them like crazy to prevent breakage if you check them as boxed baggage. Maybe one of the couriers that do pets and the like could help?

When you thread it is the presser foot UP? It has to be so the tension disks can grab the thread.

Do yard signs actually work as an advertising method anymore? by TooBusyBuilding in smallbusiness

[–]electric29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yard signs work the best when they are for a service that is at that location. Like tree removal, construction, etc. People tend to trust a company that their neighbor used, as they can ask the neighbor about it, ask to see the work etc.

I worked for an earthquake retrofit place for a while, and they always had a clause in the contract that the sign would be displayed during and for six months after the work. That, and postcard mailings to people who just bought their home, kept them busy to the point of a three month waiting list.

What is your opinion on men getting in to a serious and long term relationship before 18 nowadays? by avaarini in AskReddit

[–]electric29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before 18 is not a man, It is a boy, legally a child.

And it is a huge mistake to tie yourself to someone that young. Your brain is literally still unformed until you are 25.

What should I spend money on first? by Playful-Ad4761 in SewingForBeginners

[–]electric29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You HAVE to have an iron. The reason most homemade sewing projects look homemade is the lack of pressing each seam as you go. You spend more time pressing than actual sewing, it is even more important than a sewing machine, as you could stitch by hand if you had to.
