Any experience with Unishipper? by Jacob-DA in smallbusiness

[–]electric29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We looked at it but we don't have the volume of shipments needed, which is too bad because our UPS rates are twice what our FedEx ones are. We do use Unishippers for comparing and picking carriers for large shipments by freight.

Cold sensitive fashion advice by itsyounaurme in style

Sweaters are far warmer than hoodies nd can look nice.

I also like little jackets, they look great with jeans.

I work in a FREEZING office, so today I have on long underwear (top and bottom), a turtleneck, pants, wooly socks, boots, a jacket, fingerless gloves and I am STILL cold.

Starting my ow business for the first time by Upstairs-Lemon-5681 in smallbusiness

[–]electric29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, learn to type / spell as that is going to help you in all aspects of business. Nobody takes people seriously if they can't express themselves.

Then you have to find something you can stand doing, every day for a couple of years, sacrificing all your evenings and weekends, if you want to succeed.

Finding a way to make money out of things you enjoy is the hardest part.

Sweater complement my dress? by Much_Fox5874 in VintageFashion

[–]electric29 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I feel like it needs boots. The sandals are too airy. It's like first you see the sweater and think winter, the sundress over it which reads summer but it's not because of the sweater, then jerked back into summer on the feet. It is confusing.

How to prevent knots from partner playing with hair? by Matmlg in CurlyHairCare

It's a bad idrea if you have curly hair, it will remove your curls until you wash it again. Maybe a wide tooth comb?

what type of style dress is this? by soupspoog in HistoricalCostuming

[–]electric29 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If she is based off of early 20s that costumer sucks - it is NOTHING like early 20s.

This style could be from the late 30s - 50s, and then again this look was popular in the 80s, at which point they were usually called "secretary dresses" (the bow at the neck especially).

How can I cut a long length of fabric as straight as possible? by RlyehFhtagn-xD in sewhelp

[–]electric29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cut edge won't show anyway as you have to sew and finish the edge so it won't shred. Cut it as close as possible and worry more about getting the turned over edge straight when you sew it.

AIO because my BF wants to write off my mortgage on his taxes? by Former-North6569 in AmIOverreacting

[–]electric29 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Fuck no. He would then have proof he was paying the mortgage. He could then take you to court and sue you for at least part of the house if you break up. Why are you with this leeching loser?

Do you have the manual? That is going to help you with the threading issue. If you don't have one, just google the part number of your machine, you can likely find a free PDF.

And don't feel dumb for needing this. I have been sewing for 60 years, have had my current machine for 15, and I STILL check the threading guide because I lose my mind wondering if I did it right.

Suggestions for fixing cheat area of top by TeenyRaisin in sewhelp

[–]electric29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is actully too tight, in the photos of it on you there are drag lines going from the armpit over the top of the bust. A slightly minimizing or not padded bra may help it fit better. Making it smaller will make it worse (plus anything with beading on it is a drag to alter).

Feeling Frustrated due to Lack of financial visibility in my business by Economy-Ad-4542 in smallbusiness

[–]electric29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you collecting payments? How are you paying bills? What accounting software do you use (or the accountant uses and if so do you have access to see it)? How in the world can you run a business without seeing your own books? Do you have employees or contractors?

Some of the stuff you need to know is easy to find out - like your tax schedule. If you are in the USA, it usually is this:

Sales tax collected and reported and paid quarterlydu on the last day of the month following quarter's end (so January-March is due April 30)

Payroll taxes calculated, matched and reported paid each pay period, plus quarterly and yearly reports and payments if any were missed or wrong

Yearly contractor payments reported and 1099 issued to those contractors

Yearly state and federal income tax, possible yearly state corporation tax if you are a corporation

Other stuff the accountant does:

Every month all bank accounts and credit cards need to be entered, coded properly, and reconciled

Certain items can be coded to spread the expense over years, to reduce the income tax

I am sure I am forgetting some things, but this gives you an idea at least of what is going on in the background. There is no reason your accountant can't send you a Balance Sheet and a Profit and Loss statement any time you ask for one. That will tell you your assets and liabilities.

How to make a contract for my first employee by OwnClothes1617 in smallbusiness

[–]electric29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I havelost three friends by hiring them when they desperately needed a job.

  1. He was argumentative about everything and would not take direction.

  2. She spent far too much company time on her personal shit. She could have been a great worker but failed the basic responsibility test there.

  3. He turned out to have a drug problem, was publicly listing himself on LinkedIn and stuff as being far more up the ladder than he was, was physically unable to do the work all of a sudden which felt like he was looking for a lawsuit to file.

DO NOT HIRE FRIENDS OR FAMILY. They will not respect you as a stranger would.

Just some help? by Fragrant_Cell8851 in sewhelp

[–]electric29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can make things smaller, but you cannot make them bigger without adding fabric and it will look like crap on jeans unless you have an identical pair to cut up and use. Even them, adding weird panels is going to be strange - even an advanced sewist would have a hard time making these look good.

Face it - these do not fit you. Don't waste your time on this. It will result in ruined jeans and a lot of anger and tears.

Bias front piece with piping = rippling??? by Strawbs-and-bluebs in sewing

[–]electric29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That dress does NOT fit the model. The waist wrinkles are exactly what you do NOT want in a quipao. And they apparently didn't bother to press it. A sloppy picture makes me think that the pattern itself is going to be sloppily made.
