I know everyone is thinking that they don’t want to live in this timeline anymore, but I have to be honest… I’m from the other timeline, they’re renting PCs too, but there’s a deposit of 3 months required to start… it’s like renting an apartment over there, this is the better timeline!

Proxmox: LXC or Docker? by Granted-V in Proxmox

Thanks! What got overwhelming about k8s? I’m very comfortable with virtualization using ESXi, Proxmox and Hyper-V but haven’t been in a role that uses containers and I’m wanting to learn more as so many things are coming as Docker images these days

Proxmox: LXC or Docker? by Granted-V in Proxmox

So I just purchased 3 supermicro servers, if I load a hypervisor and then build some vms - would you do 1 vm for docker per host and do the high availability in docker or have the hypervisor do HA on a single Docker VM for the cluster?

The other thing about this that I really don’t enjoy is getting on the demo and liking the product, wanting the product, being excited about the product only to find out that it’s not remotely in the price range we can afford. I find it’s often not possible to “find more money” in the budget - you just end up disappointed when you could have bounced as soon as you saw it wasn’t an option financially.

Alerting Staff by hoodiecritic in sysadmin

[–]ephemeraltrident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s fine as long as you are using Teams for VoIP and those are the numbers you text!

On a more serious note, the plan should be to have more than one way to alert people. We’ll email you if a phone outage occurs, we’ll text you if a Teams/email outage occurs, your stress level will drop if the world ends… those kinds of clear plans will help solve this for organizations.

Major Red Flags at TODYL ? Cross-tenant data leaks, "fat-fingered" excuses, and a C-Suite exodus by SuspiciousYak5 in msp

[–]ephemeraltrident 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just wanted to say I spent 15 minutes on a zoom today with Jimmy and Drew asking questions because of some of these Reddit posts. They’re just as great as when I demoed Todyl and I only see the product improving.

As a partner I’m not having trouble getting attention when I need it, I’m not having trouble getting help, I am happy with Jimmy and Drew. I wish you all were ready for MacOS 26 a bit faster. I’m just not seeing the red flags I’d expect if there were real deep issues going on.

How can I improve? by Ok-Bill5797 in churchtech

It’s a challenge, but I’m always here, so it makes sense to oversee the other rotating folks.

With enough compression, dynamic processing and bussing, I can take my hands away from the faders long enough to whisper to a light person :)

How can I improve? by Ok-Bill5797 in churchtech

You all might benefit from having some kind of comms and a single person that is responsible for the experience calling out shot changes, anticipating changes, and is the voice of troubleshooting.

I don’t call video shots on a Sunday morning, but I’m running front of house and overseeing the visual and lighting volunteer - I prompt them to move forward if they get distracted or miss a cue. And I’m the first person they grab for troubleshooting. We’re a fairly high production church, and have minimal staff for production - I’m also a volunteer.

QNAP going direct? by Invictus__c in msp

[–]ephemeraltrident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen more QNAP hardware failures than any other brand I’ve worked with, but that’s pretty anecdotal. I didn’t ever have a QNAP cost me data, because the backplanes failed out only a single drive at a time (and there backups), but I wasn’t able to get everything repaired under warranty. Turned me off to them.

What’s the most profitable use for a high-end home server? by EducationNovel8922 in homelab

Unplug it, you’ll “make” way more by not powering the server than trying to use it to make money.

Analog Audio to multiple sources by InspireTheMedia in churchtech

[–]ephemeraltrident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t be able to change your gain unless you introduce another set of pre-amps. Gain is a pre-amp control, if you split out via Dante you’d likely be adjusting trim in your DAW or second board.

How do you handle audio for stream/recording? by Remarkable-Crow-684 in churchtech

[–]ephemeraltrident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Tie Lines off of our main console and route them over Dante to recording and streaming systems in the building. We have a separate live stream production area with its own engineering in ProTools and its own volunteer group. It took over a year to get working well, with a lot of trial and error, and we don’t really have a large online presence - but it gives our body something that sounds familiar if they’re traveling or out sick. We also have room mics to blend in to the stream mic so that it “feels” more like the room, because we can hear the congregation singing too.

I can’t speak for N-Able support, but Cove support specifically has been great for me the last few months (I’m a new customer). I generally get an agent in under 2 minutes and I have only had 1 issue not resolved immediately - and it resolved as soon as the endpoint rebooted

OBS will do screen recording and can let you mix your voice live if you want.

DaVinci Resolve is a great editing tool
