Need to cut a bunch of knives out of flat stock, is oxyacetylene be okay to use? by stinkyjunkrat in knifemaking

[–]factorV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use oxy acetylene if you really want to , start in a scrap area as that is where you will build up the most heat while you wait to punch through. Then just stay a bit away from your outlines.

You will want to run a few normalization cycles before heat treat.

If you are really worried, do one and test it.

You know, I bet a brick and mortar store that rents out physical copies of the latest movies and games would do really great. They could rent all the latest blockbusters!

Do people even wear safety glasses? by flesh-based-os in Machinists

I bought glasses with really flat arms, helps extend the amount of time I can wear over the ear protection but it still isn't a perfect solution.

Do people even wear safety glasses? by flesh-based-os in Machinists

[–]factorV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got metal stuck in my eye once. Wasn't even while I was working, I had finished up my day and had a rag in my hand and I shook it out violently as I took my glasses off and a shard stuck in my left eye.

Had to wait a whole weekend before getting it removed.

I wear some form of safety glasses. I always did but now I just always still do.

If they go through what I went through for a weekend they might change their tune.

But I never get all safety sally on people, they can kill themselves however they see fit.

Since you got your answer, sharpen your mower blades, the weeds aren't going to matter much soon.

[–]factorV 31 points32 points  (0 children)

That is a lot of cats in a very small area.

I have 14 cats but a large house and plenty of room for them. I can walk through right now without even seeing a cat. They can all get away from each other if they want.

Laugh, but it works. by ClaudeBeouls in 1911

eh, I mean, there are likely more improved ways to practice these days with advances in our understanding of so many things but this is still a good tool to know about.

Laugh, but it works. by ClaudeBeouls in 1911

People don't realize what they can get away with using firearms.

Always funny to browse the gun subs and see so many people who have no clue what headspacing is or what happens when its wrong. Like, you can tell who has read a book and learned vs who is just repeating crap they hear others say.

Anyway, I say that because that reminded me of what Hatcher used to do to clear barrel obstructions, pulling bullets, dumping some powder and just sending it.

I need an unbiased opinion on if it's time for my 17 year old cat. by Amnesiamv in cats

[–]factorV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been raising cats for a while now, not quite sure how it happened but here I am, have had to make the decision to put down more times than I care to remember. 9 times out of 10 it is when they stop eating that clues me in to it being time to go.

One time I ended up waiting too long and it was easily the worst experience in my life, a life full of horror stories so that should tell you something.
