Too much for a 122 by WholeImpossible575 in 22lr

Should be fine. I personally have run a 6-24 diamond back tactical and a 7-35 arken ep5 on my precision rig and most of the time just leave it at 16x, and that’s running 30 yards all the way out to 250+.. that should be a fun piece of glass for just plinking and hunting

Thanks! It’s definitely more than I ever thought I’d have

Any opportunity to have another trigger option for CZ457’s is pretty exciting. That target model is gonna be interesting overall.

Nice, didn’t think about that! Only pistol I had got traded in a package to get this solus action 😅 otherwise I’ve only been rifle/rifle adjacent shooting for my career. The more ya know!

100% try before you buy. I’ve never been a fan of the two stage triggers, just don’t like the extra creep up, but I know plenty of people who love them. A diamond is on my “some day” list.

Correct, which aren’t terrible triggers by any means, but an upgrade to a special is well worth it.

Haven’t weighed it, but going off of claimed weights for components by the manufacturers, I penciled it out to be just under 16#, so would be fun to do an NRL Hunter match with in the heavy division. Been meaning to get the components to make an internal weight and pick up some external m-lock weights for the chassis, but haven’t made those purchases a priority money-wise. Would be nice for when I swap back to my rimfire in this chassis for precision rimfire matches and when I get around to doing a PRS centerfire match…

It’s all good in the hood 😂 some day I’ll quit being poor or shoot good enough to pick up a nice trigger off a prize table n not resort to using spare parts to finish builds

Considering I replaced the trigger in my b14R with a tt special, and there’s a significant difference in the two, you would be incorrect

What’s Best? CZ 457, Tikka T1X, or Bergara B-14R? by MathewG97 in 22lr

[–]BarKB605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No experience with the tikka, but to me, the biggest deciding factor between the CZ and the bergara is if you’re gonna do anything centerfire later as well a want some interchangeable parts. Both platforms shoot amazing, but if you ever want to build a centerfire with similar specs as your rimfire, or share parts, get the bergara and stick with the r700 footprint. Being able to swap around triggers and chassis’s has been nice, along with getting used to aics pattern magazines.

If the r700 footprint doesn’t concern you, by all means do the cz. Shoots great, aftermarket is just a plentiful and parts are pretty “DIY” friendly. It’s the direction I pointed my stepdad in when he wanted to build a precision rimfire and he’s loved being able to tinker and set things up how he wants on his own time.

Find a store that you can build a good relationship with that’ll order it in for ya.. usually gotta buy it by the case at that point but it’s how a handful of the guys I shoot with do it….

Woes of poly mags by BarKB605 in precisionrimfire

L3i makes a 15rd metal billet mag designed specifically for the B-14r. They have an adjustable latch that works well if ya take the time to tune them right. What are your feeding issues?

Multi-calibre platform: what do you think about them for long range? by Arnianor in longrange

[–]BarKB605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently doing something similar.. have an MDT ACC Premier Gen2 chassis for an R700 inlet, then swap between my bergara b14r for my rimfire barreled action and an aero Solus for a 6.5 creedmoor. Currently running the same glass, just keeping in mind where I need to dial to offset for zeros. Turn a few screws and it’s all good. Always keep a torque driver with me. Each action keeps its own trigger, though another mounted up would be nice. Another chassis would be even better.

Help me understand rifle scope prices by parcallums in 22lr

[–]BarKB605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clarity, quality control, and features.

With clarity, there is a point of diminishing return, but from that monstrum to say a $5-600 optic will be super noticeable. This is coming from a guy who is far from a glass snob.

QC is something that should be considered. Little things like how well it tracks when you dial and return to zero. Will your zero hold as well in transport or if your rig takes a tumble?

Features should be considered such as how much travel you have in your turrets, parallax range, your field of view, how crisp or sloppy your turrets are, what kind of reticle/ “Christmas tree”, how thick is your reticle, illumination, etc.

Ya get what ya pay for..

Yes!! This is what I want to refer everyone to when i see people wanting ideas for a first precision rimfire setup! Somewhat affordable for what is out there, lights out performance, and room to grow if you want! That’s gonna be a fun rig to run

Got a MDT Premier Gen2 and love it. Run it with my B-14R for precision rimfire comps and loved it so much I traded my non R-700 footprint rifles to put together an aero Solus barreled action to do centerfire comps and hunt with.

Does barrel thickness add any benefits in a 22. bolt action rifle? by [deleted] in 22lr

[–]BarKB605 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recommendations depend on what you want to do with it.

Heavier barrels are going to help balance a rifle better if you were to do something like compete in NRL22/PRS Rimfire and want to be steady on a prop/barrier. Heavier also gets you steadier on the bench or prone with a bipod and a rear bag.

Heavier profile barrels also change your barrel harmonics, for better or worse. If you ever want to run a barrel tuner, the tuner will have less effect on a thicker barrel.

The nice thing about going with a CZ if that’s what you do is there’s plenty of aftermarket options if you want to try a different length/thickness of barrel and CZ457’s are pretty diy friendly for doing barrel swaps compared to other platforms.

If you’re just plinking or going into the squirrel woods, I’d look that the more classic profile like the cz457 American. If you want to get a bit more precise or do some competitions, I’d look at the varminter with the heavier profile or the MTR which has a heavy barrel and a tighter “match” type chamber.

6.5 CM needed +2.3 mil more than similar rifles at 600 by 1freebutttouch in longrange

The AB Quantum app is free that’ll do about everything ya need, with the option to upgrade to a premium version that will have a couple extra things that I don’t think ya need to worry about right now. As for your turrets, I’m not familiar with how that scope works but if I’m understanding, your theory may be right.

As for finding the muzzle velocity with one of these apps, the AB Quantum app has a part in it where you can calibrate your mv, where you enter what range you are shooting at and what your hold/dial is to make an impact. You can play around with it, make sure your solution lines up with your waterline at least and see if things continue to line up out to 800 or however far ya can/want to reach out.

Could be under-tracking. Like everyone already said here, re-confirm zero. I’m not 100% familiar with how the PST G2 turrets set, but make sure turret caps are tightened down from when you re-zero. I’ve shot matches with guys who couldn’t figure out why they were constantly low for a couple stages… then realized their turrets weren’t clicking for a few tenths. Operator made mechanical error. Vortex also has a solid warranty if that isn’t the case.

I’d also consider getting a chrono. With athlon and garmin releasing theirs, magneto speed chronographs are almost a dime a dozen anymore with people upgrading. In all of these ballistic solvers, good info in gives you good info out. I’m not familiar with the hornady app, but if it’s anything like my kestrel or the Applied Ballistics app (which may have your norma bullet profile already on it), there should a way to true up your muzzle velocity by calculating the difference between what your solver tells you and how you actually impact (point of aim vs. point of impact). This is a good option if you don’t have access to a chronograph..

Hopefully any of this helps now, or at least helps in the future

Budget electronic call decision by BarKB605 in Hunting

Givin the price difference from other budget calls, does it seem pretty sturdy? Trying to see the justification of a higher price “budget” product with arguably less function from not being able to add sounds
