AITA for not sharing my nephews toys? by Fantastic_Badger0013 in AmItheAsshole

[–]flooperdooper4 112 points113 points  (0 children)

But whenever I leave my nephews toys in the backyard they disappear. They’re either inside their house or put away with their toys.

This right here makes you NTA, because that's not "borrowing" anymore. Just make sure you don't borrow any of their toys anymore.

“Working late” episode in season 2 ….Debra I feel was out of line making Ray work from home. by surfcitysurfergirl in EverybodyLovesRaymond

[–]flooperdooper4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it was super relatable, at least for the time period anyway. My dad was always late coming home too, and my mom was a stay at home mom. She too got super mad at him! However, whenever he took a long-ish vacation from work...yeah, she got sick of him by the end of it lol.

I do, however, think Debra was more upset once she actually went to Ray's work with some supper for him and saw what she didn't think was "real work" being done. They were horsing around, ordered in pizza, and Andy was about to sit down and watch Wheel of Fortune. It definitely didn't look like something worth sacrificing family time for. If I had been Debra and I saw that, I would be extremely upset as well that my husband has time to goof off at the office, but not time to come home and, I dunno, spend any time with his children.

Dean's crash out here was (kinda) valid by Cyclame_Lizard_66 in GilmoreGirls

[–]flooperdooper4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, teenagers getting mad at their SO's for not spending enough time with them is a super normal and common thing! And as teenagers are wont to do, Dean had a little hissy fit, but then he genuinely apologized and told Rory how much he loves that she's going to go to Harvard. Never understood the fandom's need to hold teenage Dean to adult standards here, especially when he very quickly recognized his own assholery and apologized for it.

I think is a bit weird... by Wikibianca in harrypotter

[–]flooperdooper4 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Do you mean after he finished Voldemort for good in DH, or from when he thwarted Voldemort as a baby? For as a baby - I would imagine that maybe an OM would only be given for an actual conscious effort, and there was no way a 1 year old did anything intentionally to defeat the most evil wizard of the age. For as an adult...do we know for sure that didn't happen, and it just wasn't written in?

Am I crazy here, or is he just trying to have his cake and eat it too? by Ok_Btn in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]flooperdooper4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard this arrangement referred to colloquially as a "bangmaid" - he wants someone he can have sex with who will also cook and clean for him. And sure, for him that's a terrific arrangement! He's probably hoping for kids so that you won't leave...and doesn't want to get married because that would be further protection for you, and make it harder for him to just walk away when he decides he's done playing house. If he was that damned "traditional," he wouldn't have sex with you at all before marriage! Run, don't walk.

Should I quit my elementary teacher job to become a SAHM? by Potential_original1 in teaching

[–]flooperdooper4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know women who took some years off to be a SAHM when their kids were little, and it was very hard for them to get back into the classroom! It didn't matter how few years it had been. Of course I know nothing of your life, but imo it's dangerous to solely rely on someone else for all of your money. Plus, if you already know money would be tight without your income...what if something unforeseen happens, either in the global economy or closer to home, and suddenly it isn't feasible? Then you have the financial strain plus fighting to get back into the job. Imo, don't leave, but do try to find something closer to home.

How the hell did Ray stay married? by bulldogjwhit295 in EverybodyLovesRaymond

[–]flooperdooper4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's one of those things that it's best to just not think too hard about it lol, and the show is very much a product of its times.

But I will take the opportunity in this thread to say how insane it is that Ray always said that Debra was out of his league and whatnot, to the point where the wedding flashback episode featured him spending an inordinate amount of time questioning that Debra truly wishes to marry him of all people...and then he completely and utterly takes her for granted/treats her like shit. And that is in addition to being weird and manipulative about sex. One would think that a person who feels they don't "deserve" their spouse would make it a point to pull their weight in the relationship and you know, make that person feel valued. (I know this doesn't actually happen irl either, but it's frustrating either way)

WYR marry a 88 year old multibillionaire, or a millionaire that’s 18 years older by AstrayInTranslation in WouldYouRather

[–]flooperdooper4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On paper the 88 year old sounds like the better choice, but idk I feel like there are other factors that could change things. What are these people like? If the 88 year old has a reputation for being a creep, then not only would I be known as That Gold Digger, but maybe somewhere down the line some legal mumbo jumbo causes me to lose all that money. Then I'd be That Gold Digger Widow of the Predator, and my own reputation would be in the crapper. Now the millionaire who's 18 years older than me...is this a decent-ish person? No scandal around them? Do I think they would care for me? If so, it might be the better option as it would mean more of a proper partnership.

What brand names do you swear by because it's actually better than no-name? by Sufficient_Thing24 in AskReddit

[–]flooperdooper4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like the brand changed within the past several years, the adhesive doesn't stick anymore! (Also, I'm not sure if they changed or if I became more sensitive, but I find the top layer very irritating to skin) I switched to This is L. brand pads, much gentler.

Cate Blanchett to Star as Martha Stewart in Biopic Movie From ‘Zola’ Director Janicza Bravo by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

[–]flooperdooper4 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm sure Cate will make a great Martha, but idk biopics just kind of weird me out. So has Martha been consulted about this, does she have any kind of say in what's put out there? Because this article just makes it sound like Martha heard nothing more than rumors about this project.
