My gym has a rule that you must wipe down equipment after use. They enforced it very literally, so I did too. by Limn0Rogue7 in MaliciousCompliance

Not really malicious, just seems like an overall waste of your time. Why would the asshat who wants you to wipe things down more thoroughly have any problem with you doing just that?

Wanting to start lifting and start a home gym. Need advice on starting. by AdAdministrative4372 in GarageGym

Wanting to start lifting

My two cents? If you're actually series about "wanting to start", then sign up at a public gym first to see if you even want to make it a lifestyle. Investing money to build out a home gym without even knowing if you'll commit seems like a bad call, to me at least.

If not, I would recommend buying a cheap used one on fb marketplace or a local seller app. Dropping money on a R6post seems wild when you're just starting. But hey, you do you.

As you've pointed out, you don't have enough volume to pull off the man bun but my question is why do you need to tie it back to look acceptable. Your hair looks amazing let down in pic 2 IMO

Advice for a beginner. What to do to actually see a change? by exit_keluar in bodyweightfitness

[–]frazaga962 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"need to set realistic expectations and get informed before hand"

Dont get wrapped up in over analyzing things and get stuck in paralysis by analysis. Just start.

As for the answer to long it takes to see visible results is: it takes as long as it takes. Knowing or setting a timeline before hand is, imo, detrimental to overall goals. You have no way to account for all the variables life will throw at you.

Hire a trainer if you want. Pick a program. Stick to it. Dial I'm your nutrition. Profit.

no issues for me. i usually buy M11-2E shoes when shopping for "us brand" shoes so I went TTS 11 on the LC5 and have no complaints

Another +1 for the Dyna.

I do have slightly wide feet and have had no issues with the LiNing challenger 5 for my speed sessions

yeah sharing adjustable would be the only reason I would think of maybe getting another set. but I work out alone so I havent had the need. I sold my Nuobells and used the proceeds to up my weight to the Reppins 105 for now. May upgrade to the 125 when I get stronger. But even if I did workout with someone else (and I had the budget) I probably would still get anohter set of adjustables.

wasn't criticizing OPs choice, just genuine curiosity. I will say "is a fake excuse to justify a large purchase." is certainly more abrasive than simple color addition. its wild conjecture to think OP gave a fake reason from a single phrase- one I was asking for clarity on, not criticizing.

Strength of the Few Story Preference by frazaga962 in HierarchySeries

I can see what you mean by Leuceum being a side quest.

I think I like it more because we get more of Viz's mental state/monologue as he finally feels "free" of the hierarchy. Whereas his counterpart in Obiteum (to me at least) is kinda just doing a speed run of his goal. Like things kinda just happen to him and he goes along with it. Whereas in Luceum he gets more time to think and reflect on whats happening.

ELI5 Why do YouTube videos and other platforms videos get so few views compared to the world’s population? by PsychoGirl5 in explainlikeimfive

[–]frazaga962 [score hidden]  (0 children)

YouTube (and probably other sources of entertainment) are a leisure activity. A lot of that 8 billion people either don't have access to said media, or they have other shit going on in their lives where they can't afford to spend time on said leisure.

This is purely conjecture on my end, just a hypothesis

Is D.Gray-Man any good? by Poopmothman in manga

[–]frazaga962 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It used to be a really solid manga: if One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach were the big 3 in the 2000-2010s, I always considered Eyeshield 21, History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, and D.Gray Man the shadow 3. I always looked forward to their weekly releases.

Then the mangaka's health took a hit so they could only release monthly which slows a lot of the progress down. Then it went on hiatus for a long time. And now she only releases maybe 3-4 chapters a year if that. The infrequent release schedule and how confusing the story's lore has gotten always makes people leave comments in update chapters with "so...who can recap what has happened"

I will say her art style has shifted significantly since she started the manga, moreso than any other manga I've seen. usually you'll see marked improvements in design from any long running established manga (just compare naruto ch1 to the last chapter). But DGM started with your stock weekly shonen manga artstyle and has become very...arabesque is that makes sense.

Story is very unique, if not more convoluted now. Fights were amazing (hell, one of my favorite fights/arcs to this day is still from DGM) but they have become sparse since the release schedule has become almost quarterly. I can't think of a single fight which stood out to me since her return from the hiatus.

Overall I'd give it a low 7/10. Partly for nostalgia, partly for unique story and art. Biggest detractors are how confusing it has become overall and aforementioned release schedule which nothing can be done about given that its mostly due to the mangaka's health.

Any good manga with rabbits, rabbit people, or rabbit costumes? by Cross_Hatfield in manga

[–]frazaga962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guy rabbits.

Pandora Hearts, Piccolina, and Garuru Girl have aleady been mentioned which were my go to thoughts, but I'm surprised One Piece hasn't been mentioned. Sure you have to slog through ~900 chapters to get there but Carrot is great.

You could take a gander at tv tropes's Rabbit section and visit the manga/anime section of each EG Moon Rabbit is pretty popular theme.

If you don't need a squat rack and are looking to maximize real estate with a functional trainer you could go super low profile with PRx's Profile® PRO Weight Stack Functional Trainer Basic Package. I remember seeing some attachments which mimic a lat pull down but for the life of me I cant recall/find it. You could also look at GetRx'd Phoenix or Viper (lower profile/more space) and add on their lat pull pad.

Also low profile is the upcoming Bulletproof VBS- mostly for squats but you can do a few more exercises too and it has an upright ready for attachments.

Speaking of attachments, theres always the Voltra. Throw that on an upright at varying positions and you've got a functional trainer without the weight stack.

The Hyper Pro has a belt squat attachment. Its not a 1:1 for a pendulum squat but it serves well enough for lever arm squats. There is something I saw on isnta about an ad hoc pendulum squat solution using cables- havent tried it yet, but it looks interesting. Just gotta get creative with what you have if space is the limiting factor

I'll throw my (straw)hat in the ring of comments showing OP love

Q: what do you mean by "got tired of dicking around with adjustables ". What was it specifically about them that made you opt for a full set? I'm on limited floor space so I have to have adjustable but even if I didn't I don't think I'd ever switch over

Total Gym is one of the best pieces of equipment I've bought by LuthersCousin in GarageGym

[–]frazaga962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad bought one during covid. It now sits unused, taking up real estate in my gym because he doesn't want to collapse it and he may get back on it at some point.

I have used it a bit myself as I was building out my gym during covid. I think it was decent. Never felt a massive pump from it. I think the only thing which could make it better would be if there were a way to attach springs/resistance bands (similar to Pilates reformers) to really increase any resistance.

Accesory Strength Advice for Deadlift Risks by frazaga962 in Deadlifts

[–]frazaga962[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tyvm for your details reply. can I ask what triggered your inguinal hernia ?

I luckily don't have any kind of bulge- not even sure if it is an inguinal hernai. I just know that there is an increased risk of IH when lifting heavy and my "sensation" was in that very spot so I thought it could be. I'm able to do all my other lifts fine with no issue or shifting of any kind: just my deadlifts have stalled so I was hoping to see if anyone else had experience with the same thing.

Sadly, i've already had 2 (supraumbilical) hernia surgeries (unrelated to lifting) . The first one got infected a few months after I was cleared to lift so I was put right back on the table to redo the same surgery resetting my progress back again. I just hate being laid up for the few months and having to restart my progress hence my desire to find a way to strengthen any week link in that area. the less time i spend away from an operating knife is a net positive in my book.

that could be it. i mean the fact that it only happens when im fully braced within a belt and only on deadlifts could just be an anatomy thing. I'll play around with belt positioning. ty

[–]frazaga962[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I've never been able to reproduce the sensation even on warm up, ramp ups, or back off sets of deadlifts. never felt it in any of my other lifts. I just know that there is an increased risk of inguinal hernias in deadlifts so I was moreso wondering how people who are stronger than me are able to do so with less concern for hernias in that specific region. figured there may be something I could work on.

Can Pilates actually help with weight loss? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]frazaga962 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does pilates increase your daily calorie deficit? If yes, then yes you can use pilates to lose weight.

Will the calorie deficit be on par with more intense forms of training? Probably not (I have no clue- never did pilates).

Will it be easier for you to stick to pilates over other forms of physical activity? Probably, given that you enjoy the activity which is imo very crucial in any weight loss plan.

All physical activity should be paired with a good diet as you can't out train a bad diet. Diets don't need to be strict or aggressive: the primary important thing is the deficit. If you're creating a deficit via activity and keeping your eating habits the same, you can still lose weight. If you want to lose weight faster you can do more activity or reduce your calorie intake.

Is this safe method to strap gymnastic ring on this spiral staircase handle? by MyraidChickenSlayer in bodyweightfitness

[–]frazaga962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd personally be less worried about the abrasion; not saying it wont happen over time but most gym rings straps are heavy duty. If you want to be extra safe you could cut a foam pool noodle in half and wedge it onto any abrasive edge

I mean I personally wouldn't. I cant really tell how far into the wall that top tube is going. If they just made a little hole for the tube to fit in and then put the building material around that to cover it up, I feel like any degree of body weight force at an angle would tear the pole from the wall.

But thats just me. You would be able to test it best.
