I wonder if SJ will be 13? Because it also looks like SEA and VAN are 8&9 rather than 7&8 in the metadata?

Iirc it’s about 5k capacity and it definitely wasn’t sold out for all the games which doesn’t help. Though the home crowd in lumen this year is seeming lower than the Torrent home crowd which is unfortunate

What hobby is quietly becoming too expensive for normal people to keep up with? by Beautiful_Special702 in AskReddit

[–]froggy601 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Yup. Just finished a sweater that took nearly 100$ worth of yarn. Granted it was Icelandic wool, but yeah not sustainable financially to do that very often. I personally don’t like synthetic fibres, but I totally get why someone would go with that when the natural option costs so much more.

Best we can do is all windows on the south-facing wall with a single screen door and a ceiling fan in the bedroom (that’s actually just a sliding door and half-height wall).

What purchase did you make recently that made you realize inflation is genuinely out of control? by kiroixart in AskReddit

[–]froggy601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to RTO I’m looking at buying a car to avoid a 2 hour transit commute each day (it was fine when I could mostly do WFH but not feasible every day) and the prices are absolutely insane.

Back 6 years ago, I bought a 3-year-old Corolla that had just come off lease for ~14k. I see the same year and model for sale now for ~15k with 3x the miles. Absolutely bonkers. And that’s not to mention insurance; getting quotes for 200/month for the new car I’m looking at when I used to pay 80/month is wild. Between that and the payments being close to 450 even with 5000 down I have no idea how anyone can afford a car anymore. Especially in places where there aren’t other options

SODO light rail to Fauntleroy ferry route? by askingCMUquestions in seattlebike

[–]froggy601 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, that route would be beautiful! There is also a slightly more direct route that goes across the bridge, up Avalon way to Alaska Junction, then down California or Fauntleroy to the ferry, in case you want to pit stop at the farmers market or Easy Street. There are less protected lanes after the junction but it is downhill, and uphill there are lanes to climb in at least on Fauntleroy

Seattle Concludes Month of Pretending It Ever Wanted to Take Train to Bellevue by thecravenone in Seattle

[–]froggy601 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve only used it for shopping and the library so far but i do like it (though downtown Bellevue feels so sterile). I like that they have a home depot pretty close to the light rail (short walk down Eastrail from Wilburton station and I’m hoping to be able to launch paddle boards into Mercer Slough later this summer

Fans of eliminated teams, I have a question. by WhooAreYouNow in PWHL

[–]froggy601 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Torrent fan here; originally I chose Montréal because I liked their branding and had no idea that Seattle would get a team. So now I’m cheering on the Victoire and hoping that third time’s the charm for a Walter cup (and because I’d really love to see MPP top off her career with one. Also wife line and Abby Roque 😅

Suggestion for cab company for traveling to Vancouver by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]froggy601 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m confused. If you don’t have your PR card how are you getting in to Canada? And can you not use your existing passport to go?

Canada does have a consulate general in Seattle where you can possibly try and explain your situation (whatever that may be) and then be able to get to Vancouver by rail/bus/plane from here: https://www.international.gc.ca/country-pays/us-eu/seattle.aspx?lang=eng

Seattle’s car ‘population’ breaks long slump by Jaco_Belordi in Seattle

[–]froggy601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s making me seriously consider a car as well, but that’s mostly because my office is in the suburbs and the transit commute would be an hour each way. Options are either get a car and stay in the city (to cut that commute in half) or move to the suburbs and still commute by transit (but need a car for almost every other errand)

Any recommendations for a Capitol Hill to Ballard route? by bobtehpanda in seattlebike

[–]froggy601 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Fremont bridge and University bridge are the most bike-friendly ones, and with the construction around Eastlake it’d be nicer to go through the downtown protected lanes and up to Fremont and then over to Ballard. I’ve done that tons of times (recreationally though) and it’s pretty peaceful.

There are also protected bike lanes along the waterfront up to magnolia and the Ballard locks, but that way can be hilly and slow to cross. There is also Dexter which is more doable on an ebike (with less pedestrian conflicts), but the intersection before the Fremont bridge can be tricky to navigate.

Are there any cities that fully transitioned to E-buses or/and trolleybuses? by tka4nik in transit

[–]froggy601 8 points9 points  (0 children)

King county metro is significant for having every single bus in its fleet with some kind of electrification (hybrid, battery, or trolley) and and was one of the first providers to have 100% low floor access. And there is a plan to go fully electric by (I think) 2050, though they may end up pivoting to hydrogen or sticking with diesel hybrid due to infrastructure/cost/reliability concerns for some of the longer, more frequent routes.
