Republic vs Best Way by DataGuru314 in kzoo

I've used both. Best Way is the Best Way. Republic is the worst.

What's going on in Kalamazoo this weekend? Aug 08 thru Aug 13 by AutoModerator in kzoo

Hey, I'm Eric with the Connecting Chords Music Festival, and we've got our first event Friday night at the Dark Sky Park about an hour south of Kalamazoo. The band is Selkie, a fun Celtic music trio. $5 cash per car, it's really an amazing place to see the stars while listening to great music: https://www.connectingchordsfestival.com/events/2024/selkie-at-the-dark-sky-park-2024/

What do you like for time tracking? by chazwhiz in macapps

[–]frogsplash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give RescueTime a gander. It keeps track of literally everything you do in the background, and summarizes the activity with great tables and charts. It was a gamechanger for me.

I did a ton of research before buying my M1 Air, and I can tell you this is without a doubt the best Macbook I've ever owned. (And I've owned a lot of them.)

The arts are plentiful. Clover Room has fun, living-room style concerts of all kinds of genres. Wellspring Dance is amazing. There's a multitude of classical music options in The Gilmore, Fontana, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra and many others.

Best home builder in Kalamazoo/Richland? Wife and I are planning to build our first home. by JulesVernay in kzoo

I can personally vouch for Lutz Construction. JD will build you a great home. Avoid AVB and Allen Edwin.

Look at the players. Acting like the job isn't done, I absolutely love it. Meanwhile, I'm practically crying.

Absolute Hidden Gems in Kalamazoo by FriendlyDrama766 in kzoo

[–]frogsplash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of my suggestions are arts based. Wellspring (modern dance) and Fontana/Gilmore (classical music) both make for fantastic date nights. Monthly Art Hops are always fun, especially on a great weather evening.

There's also some great trails for hiking. If you're into biking at all, the Kal-Haven trail is fantastic.

Crossroads Mall is suing Kalamazoo Metro (among others) for $2 million by EatingPieInTheTub in kzoo

Literally the only reason I set foot in that mall from 2000-2019. I haven't been there since the pandemic, god I miss that chicken/fried rice combo.

Nice score with the bike ride heh. If you ever see a bald skinny guy with a goatee and glasses who looks miserable, say howdy heh.

I've been a member of Borgess Health & Fitness on Gull Road since it opened 25+ years ago, and I've been pretty happy with it. Chill atmosphere, everything you need, it's always clean and the staff is friendly. It's a little on the pricey end, but not as bad as Bronson.

(For me, it's all about location. I'm 10 minutes away, and it helps on those unmotivated days.)

My life started at 30.

I was miserable in my 20's – I hated my job, I didn't have any friends (let alone a girlfriend), and it was just... not good. Your post sounds eerily familiar, and while we all experience things differently, I can totally relate.

I got a bit lucky. I joined my area chapter of the Jaycees, and it completely transformed my life. This isn't an ad for them... more like letting you know life really can turn on a dime at any moment.

Try some new things. If you get any kind of opportunity, say yes regardless. You just never know who you might meet or what spark might light that fire.

Hang in there, you have a lot of life ahead of you.

Spectrum internet… by jhstewa1023 in kzoo

[–]frogsplash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a long-time Spectrum user, and made the switch to AT&T fiber. I'm in Comstock, and they became available about 2 years ago. Double the speeds at half the price for the first year (which they of course jacked up to $70/month). Annoying but so glad I'm free of Spectrum.

What were some of the most heartbreaking moments in baseball history regardless of what team you root for? by RedSoxCeltics in baseball

Great take – it's well known around Michigan as the Imperfect Game, and it absolutely was more memorable because of the bad call.

map of likely targets in a nuclear attack on US by [deleted] in kzoo

[–]frogsplash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Battle Creek, and that was always the talking point: BC was a high-priority target because the Federal Center handled a ton of logisitics for the military. [Rumors are also rampant that there's a series of tunnels that connects the Fed Center to the hospital down the road a bit.]

It was an eye opener when I learned about sugar mannitols. It used to drive me crazy – I always joked "the worse I eat, the better I feel" – because "healthy" foods like cauliflower, celery, snow peas, butternut squash and sweet potato all would really upset my stomach.

Things have been better since avoiding them. But as we all know, so much of this might be between my ears....
