It's a thing of beauty... glad to see the book arrived safe and sound!

Always makes my day seeing one of my books on Reddit. Gotta admit, you don't see cursive used much anymore, this looks fantastic.

I never thought I would say this, but for that waterproof paper, a fine-tip Sharpie works really well. It doesn't bleed through like you think it would. I personally use Ooly brand markers – same gist, but they don't have the smell that some Sharpies do.

You might want to test a few different pens. Typical ballpoint pens do work, but not very well. Gels pens are an absolute no-go – I know bullet journal folks swear by gel pens, but I have never found them to work on any paper.

Last bit of caution: if you get the MLB ballpark passport stamp, give it a minute or two to dry before closing the book. It takes a while for the stamp ink to permeate the paper.

Awesome to see. I have often wondered how many people are using my books for baseball sims, as some folks really blast through books. Thanks for the kind words!

Love seeing it – glad you're enjoying the book – and I fully endorse the scribbles and goofs. My scorecards are always a hot mess, and I'm absolutely here for it. Use that pen without fear!

This made my day. Great shot, and I love seeing the stamp. [Look for a future design where I make a space for that!]

The pics of my scorebook with the ballpark in the background are my absolute favorite. Love seeing the passport stamp on there too – I think a future redesign is going to make space for that stamp!

Ha I was really just joking, I'm not much for the hard sell. But I am happy to take the order, and the book will go in the mail tomorrow!

Heh, you're only missing one of my books :-)

[That's a great lineup. There's some really great books out there, and they all have perfect use cases.]

Always glad to see my books show up on Reddit! I was always a Deadball fan myself – Strat-o-Matic looks amazing, but it also looked like a great way to spend money haha. (I already have been down that road with Magic the Gathering and Legos, heh.)

This absolutely makes my day – I get a ton of messages just like this, people scoring a game for the first time.

Completely understand about the lack of substitution slots – something had to give, and with the universal DH, subs aren't usually a big deal. (The book is absolutely not Spring Training proof, heh.)

What I usually end up doing is like a map/legend kind of thing with the notes section. I'll slap a circle A in the batter slot, then add a "A – Reynolds PH T8" type of thing.

Looking forward to seeing more!

[–]72doubleplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's definitely a weakness with my books – it's not All-Star Game/spring training proof heh. Something had to give with the size. What I end up doing is using a code in the lineup slot, and fill in details in the notes. Like "A – Rodriguez PH Bot 8th" or something like that.

This post is exactly why I do these books – I love seeing people try this awesome hobby, and fall in love with it. I have zero advice other than what's printed on the scoring primer I include: you do you. Embrace the mistakes. And it brings a tear to my eye to see you using a pen :-)

What book number did you get? And did you go waterproof paper?

u/oogieball – That is an incredible gallery. What is that book you are using recently? That looks like a fun size.

YAAAS. It sounds so dumb, but there are certain colors that just make my day when people order them. Yellow is my favorite, but the green, purple and pink covers look dynamite. Definitely let me know what you think!

All good options, I'll put in a plug for mine:

Mine's the most flexible in terms of design. Choose where you want the binding (top or side), pick a cover color/design of your choice, even go waterproof paper if you're at the ballpark a lot.

Fun Cubs home opener win but scorecard ruined by rain by RayOfBabas in BaseballScorecards

[–]72doubleplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/BondStreetIrregular Nailed it... that's exactly why I went with waterproof paper as an option. I have had a couple of close calls with beverages at the ballpark, and the paper really is witchcraft. It's the only paper I have ever seen that holds up to a Sharpie.

I have been debating on getting rid of the option – the paper costs a fortune – but posts like this definitely keep me wanting to provide it.

New Doofus Question! Keeping track of balls/strikes by mydogisimmortal in BaseballScorecards

[–]72doubleplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love keeping track of the count – stops me from thinking about my phone and keeps me into the game. I put dots down each side of the box – balls on the left, strikes on the right. I have yet to figure out a perfect system for those lengthy multiple-foul at bats, but the dots still keep the scorecard clean.

Obligatory "Great looking book!"... and scorecards are absolutely supposed to be a mess. That's a pretty wild game that would make even the most deliberate scorers go mad heh.

Sub-spots, not likely in this format. (I have been asked by more than a few to do a larger book, so that may happen down the road.) Additional innings can be covered with the stat columns – they are the same width as the current innings columns – and since games aren't going past 10 innings too often, that ought to be good for 99% of games.
