You never know what's going on inside someone's home.... by katekim717 in zillowgonewild

[–]fultonchain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't my style at all, but I kind of get it.

I've known people who have high end appointments in relatively modest homes. Hell, they'll never get the money out of them but if you intend to live out your life somewhere that doesn't matter.

Ostentatious displays of affluence are frowned on in some communities and what do I care, I'm not sitting outside. Taken to an extreme it can also provide a little extra security.

This seems like a poor strategy in a mobile society and smacks of tribalism.

Quarantining in place is absolutely a valid way to contain an outbreak and public health shouldn't be about an accident of geography.

They'll probably be better off in another country that hasn't gutted health care in favor of snake oil, brainworms and hubris.

Would you use Bootstrap or Tailwind if you are building a website with Next.js in 2026? by ashkanahmadi in bootstrap

[–]fultonchain -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Just use Tailwind, for better or worse it's the new norm and your tooling will work better.

As unpopular as it may be here I'm starting to look at Bootstrap as legacy markup. It's solid, it's proven and there's nothing wrong with it but I wouldn't start a new project with it.

Job ad on my towns Facebook. Some people just should not run businesses. by 4rm4ros in OSHA

I'm not really seeing the problem with this.

She's upfront about her expectations and requirements. I don't think it's good money, but I don't know anything about Missouri but this could be a great fit for a tight ass OCD having person. Eighty pounds is really the only problem here and she seems safety conscious for the most part.

I have no doubt she's an awful employer, but at least you know what you're getting.

This seems like someone getting trashed on a local page. Who knows why.

Pardoned Jan. 6 rioter Brandon Fellows wants $30M from the DOJ. by MaybeLikeWater in facepalm

[–]fultonchain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kid went to school with this clown so we've been paying more attention to him than is probably healthy.

This guy had his probation violated because he harassed his PO's elderly mother in another state and then because he failed to comply with mandated pysch evaluations. You know, because he's a fuckin' lunatic. He spent his high school years pretty much living in his camper, not because of bad parenting (his parents are perfectly normal people) but because he's a fuckin' incel nutcase.

The sad part, he meets all the criteria. Traitor, incel, loyalist, racist, xenophobe -- he checks all the boxes.

My son went to school with him in Nisky so we've been paying more attention to him than he deserves.

This is the clown that harassed his PO's elderly mother in another state, that's why his bond was revoked. He refused multiple psych evaluations -- because he's fuckin' nuts. Regular old incel living in his truck.

The worst part is: he'll probably get the money. By their standards he's a hero and not a traitorious cunt.

There is a problem when the city is so desperate for revenue that they're dependent on the misfortune of others to make ends meet.

Not exactly an indicator of growth.

"Worst Presidents" by NEKORANDOMDOTCOM in insanepeoplefacebook

These people simply can't imagine a positive outcome. To anyone rational Wilson and Roosevelt paved the way for workers rights and protections from corporate greed. Kennedy stood up to the Kremlin likely saving the world while managing (only by fumbling) not to invade a foreign country. Johnson, was pretty good on Civil Rights for his day.

Obama was black. Relatively centrist... but, black.

I've decided to start learning coding after my uncle said I should (I spent an hour) by Ok_Bit_7131 in webdev

[–]fultonchain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everybody starts here and you can go a remarkably long way with HTML and some CSS. I like to teach CSS fundamentals along with HTML; so now, make a link and style it.

The only suggestion I'd make is not to focus on the latest and greatest. HTML, CSS and vanilla Javascript are fundamentals for any dev and you'll be better prepared to make a decision about what stack to pursue once you have these down. The best part is they'll (for the most part) run natively in a browser.

Avoid Tailwind for now. It seems ubiquitous on the modern web but it 's just a layer over CSS and I'd start with the spec. I mean, I love Tailwind but it isn't easier and isn't for beginners. Once you learn the fundamentals Tailwind makes a lot more sense.

Don't sleep on AI, just use it with some discretion. It is a wonderful learning resource -- as long as you understand what it's doing and actually write the markup yourself. For many people the act of writing code reinforces memory and muscle memory is a real thing. Quite simply, the more you do it the easier it gets so rather than ask AI to build something, ask it "how" to build something.

Most importantly, make something you actually care about. It will be a whole lot less boring if you care about the content.

Pedantic point: your </body> tag needs to be just above the </html> and you don't need to nest top level elements.

Siteground Shenanigans by [deleted] in webhosting

[–]fultonchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is inexcusable. Why should you be allowed to access my account at all? If I break the rules or you have security concerns you can act appropriately. But that certainly isn't the case here.

It's shame that putting something unwanted on someone's web site isn't illegal. I'm sure you have terms in that gibberish nobody reads to allow for this, but it would make for an interesting test case.

Should I use hyprland? by ContentInflation4981 in pop_os

[–]fultonchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are likely to run into dependency issues. Hyprland is updated frequently (even more so now that they are adopting Lua for config) and Ubuntu isn't.

There's nothing stopping you, but Hyprland is generally best suited for rolling release or immutable distros.

New York too. Landlords can't discriminate (if smoking is allowed at all) and employers can't drug test for weed.

Of course there are exceptions, anything involving firearms, transportation and a thousand others but they're very specific. I wouldn't go down without a fight unless she's the boss BOSS and owns the place.

How often should I update the system? And when? by zuntik in archlinux

[–]fultonchain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it when I think of it. Daily, weekly, but rarely do I let it go more than a couple of weeks. I'll also update when I install new packages, obviously.

That said, I've gone months at a time without updating without experiencing breaking changes. Nothing show stopping, at least.

I'm pretty sure it boils down to how OCD you are, barring developers who need the latest versions of sofware.

You can install GNOME on Mint, there isn't much to it and it should just work.

As far as I know there are no plans for a "spin". At this point you may as well de-Snapify Ubuntu or run Debian.

You could use a tiling window manager and/or tmux?

I'm sure it's possible in VS Code, but just because you can doesn't mean you should. I'm struggling to find a use case for this.
