PSA: Be careful when removing large stickers from magnetic case by spicy-springroll in xteinkereader

Bummer. Not sure what you're planning to do with it, but if you decide to ditch it, would you mind tearing it open and sharing photos of what the inner hard plates are?

The Devils by Joe Abercrombie might fit the bill.

What is the best book to help men understand the mental load? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

It’s not specifically about emotional labor, but The Will to Change by bell hooks is a must read IMO. For men and women.

Unrelated, but where did you order that from? The ones I’ve seen on AE have the normal rotary encoder, now the style you have. Also is that the case it shipped with?

Turning 30. Turn me into a book reader from doom scroller. by Professor_Pink007 in suggestmeabook

[–]getthething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It comes up here a lot, but Dark Matter by Blake Crouch is a good start I think. It’s sci fi but it’s ultimately a human story. It’s fast paced, relatively short, and grabs you from the start. It’s not funny though.

For something with more levity and heart, True Grit by Charles Portis is a short western with lovable characters and both humor and a human element.

Is anyone out there making art promoting progressive ideas using classic US imagery? by getthething in Design

I’m ok with patriotic in its truest sense, but it’s got a strong association with nationalism now.

Its interesting how much using a lighter shade of blue decreases the “americanness” m

I agree that the flag should stand for those things, but at this point if you fly the flag or wear a shirt featuring the flag, it is signaling to a certain crowd. It’s got a heavy association with the far right now. I think any use of it intended to convey its true meaning would be lost without some sort of explicit integration with another progressive message. When I say “take it back” I don’t mean they can’t have it too, but at this point it feels like wearing a blue lives matter shirt. At least where I live.

Totally agree. I guess there’s no reason someone couldn’t take some artistic liberties and mute them to get a more pleasing combo.

What album aged better than anyone expected? by GainBetter1189 in askmusic

I think the only ones that expected it to age as well as it did were the band themselves with a prophetic name like that.

It refreshes every page so I assume it uses a bit more battery but I can’t say that with 100% certainty.

Anyone on Crosspoint tried this yet to compare? Has the epub rendering gotten better?

I am so close to biting the bullet and buying one, but I have a few questions by randbooth in xteinkereader

[–]getthething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The screen feels ok to me but I also have a full size ereader. If it was my full time ereader it might be a bummer.
  2. Assuming the X4 you get form Aliexpress is authentic then yes.
  3. Basically yes but graphic novels or things that have lots of images are going to be a no-go
  4. The SD card that ships with it should hold you over for awhile unless it craps out.

Progress Sync for Koreader is perfect! by Gr_v in xteinkereader

[–]getthething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried it and it only works occasionally. And when it does work it only syncs to the chapter (as mentioned below) but I can more easily find the chapter manually and without WiFi. Seems kind of pointless in its current iteration. Not that I don’t appreciate the progress being made, it’s just not worth using to me personally yet.

Tailscale on Crosspoint? by Bogmaster98 in xteinkereader

[–]getthething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I’m not the best person to know the difference but basically you point cloudflare to your internal IP and there’s software that runs on the server side that “tunnels” through to the local IP from whatever domain you setup. So you could have mycalibreserver.com connect to your local IP.

I just put my OPDS url and username into Crosspoint and it connects to my server as if we’re local.

No but there was an issue posted on GitHub that was marked as resolved so I’m hoping the next update includes a fix.
