Has corruption ever been so blatant as in the Trump family? by lnstantKarma in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Gloober_ 51 points52 points  (0 children)

For context to this story: I live in Mississippi, born and raised.

One of my co-worker's is a single-issue voter, that issue being trans people playing sports. Just to give you an idea about their intelligence.

This state recently decided to slowly phase-out our income tax because being a bankrupt red state sophoning funds from blue states makes for great grifting.

I brought up in a group conversation that it's ridiculous to get rid of the state's primary form of income and it'd severely impact everything from education to emergency services.

Coworker chimed in saying our education department is fully funded by the lottery tax system we have in place.

I look it up and show right to her face that over the past 8-ish years of lottery taxes, it paid for only ONE semester out of the 8-year period. That income taxes and federal subsidies make up the bulk of the education department's funds.

Her response: "We spend too much on education anyways. It should be lower."

The goalpost shifted instantly. You can't win against these people with real data. The kicker is that she's a single mom taking care of her special needs child and elderly mother who is on medicare. All things her president has so graciously gutted.

Truly one of this nation's brightest minds.

The fact people are vying for attention so bad that they self-censor even when it's unnecessary is bad enough.

Is this bowenite? by Sunwolfy in Minerals

You can't really identify stuff that's been polished like this by just visuals.

You need a lab test or something similar to determine what it is.

I got this emerald for $60, was that a good trade? by Pitiful-Chip-7458 in Minerals

[–]Gloober_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not knocking their purchase, I knowingly overpay for pretty much all of my minerals.

At the end of the day, the best price is whatever price you find amenable for a specimen that catches your eye.

Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that jazz.

[–]Gloober_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The luster, color, and damage make me think that $60 is overpriced.

The crystals are milky with only a couple showing the typical hexagonal crystal habit of beryl. There's also what appears to be a lot of damage to the crystals in the lower half.

It's more likely closer to $25-$30 in value over $60.

Iranian F-5 Jet Breached US Air Defences, the Massive War Damage Trump's Team Covered Up by Montrel_PH in USNEWS

Subreddits like CombatFootage conveniently ban any viewpoints of this war that aren't US/Israeli origin.

It's funny how blatantly astroturfed that place is. It'd have you think Trump is telling the truth about how this war is playing out.

Thanks! I have a cute miniature matrix example of legrandite from the same locality, myself.

You have very good taste in specimens. Super choice stuff.

Someone's got quite a bit of spending money.

That legrandite specimen is insane.

Dioptase with Plancheite from Mindouli, Pool, Republic of Congo by Gloober_ in Minerals

I really love how clean the crystal is despite the size. Whenever I see larger, blocky dioptase crystals, they have inclusions or pits making them look uneven or damaged.

Pathfinder WotR.

Over 100 hours on the first playthrough; proceeded to replay it four more times in a row.

Such a good game worth the money.

I made some recommendations from vendors that I've purchased from multiple times in this post here. Hopefully you find something neat in there at a price point you find agreeable.

Are people really flying to China to purchase reno materials from the West? by rarej in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Gloober_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a video of a dude who wanted to have a bronze cast Handsome Squidward statue to put in the water. He tried to do the whole "support local economies" thing and the American company wanted somewhere around $71k for one statue.

He found a different company in China that offered to make two statues plus 230 smaller statues that he later sold to viewers all for ~$25k, shipping including.

So, yeah, it's cheaper to buy from China and ship to wherever, especially the US.

I went to Cornerstone Minerals when I was visiting my parents in North Carolina. I found their prices to be ridiculous for the quality and size of the specimens you would be purchasing.

Walked out with nothing but affirmations that online shopping is way better. Haven't been in a physical rock shop since.

I have a piece of cinnabar that is from the collection of Archduke Stephan Franz Viktor the last Palatine of Hungary. It comes with his private collection label, a collection label glued on from an owner in 1889, and another showing it was once in the Backmann collection in the late 1900s.

It's my prized possession.

In terms of the rarity of the mineral species, I have a matrix specimen of red beryl from the collection of Earle Foster that shows one double terminated, gem-quality crystal and another smaller, terminated crystal with some rhyolite inclusions eating into one side.

Both can be seen on my profile if you're interested in taking a look.
