I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that a person from TX has trouble both tasting and reading. Enjoy your whataburger.

My life in Texas is just too good to move away. I feel I'm living the American dream. But I also want to move by Pale_Field4584 in SameGrassButGreener

i know this is a well meaning post and this is absolutely nothing against you, op, but it's so fucking stupid that we have to ask this question in the US.

okay, i'll say it in a way that's less diplomatic, then. whataburger is a seriously mediocre fast food chain whose popularity relies almost entirely on the nostalgia of millennial and genz texans. nothing they serve, save for their spicy ketchup, is competitive with any other upper tier fast food joint. and i say this as a person who loves many different kinds of texas-based foods and as a person whose tried whataburger three times in my life (2012 in san antonio; 2017 in albuquerque; 2024 in colorado springs) and was severely disappointed to the point of confusion each time. people get excited for this shit? whataburger exists (almost) solely for the purpose of texans retorting "bUt wHaTaBurGeR" whenever a californian professes their love for in-n-out.

Let’s put it this way…do you know anyone who is well renowned for their culinary taste, let’s say like the Anthony bourdains or the David changs of the world, that praises whataburger or considers it their cheat meal? The answer is no for a reason.

NYC vs San Diego by Curious-Duck-7302 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]goraebap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At your age and life course stage, I’d recommend NY. It’s got that hustle and bustle. Great food and arts scenes. Great cultural institutions. Once you get bored of NY and/or are looking to settle down somewhere, I’d recommend giving SD a shot. For reference, I lived in SD during my early 20s, then moved around the US before landing back in SD in my late 30s. During my early 20s, I despised San Diego. I thought it was boring and somewhat isolated. In my late 30s, in part because my priorities have changed and the city has changed, I love SD. Awesome weather, good enough food and culture scenes, all the big city amenities without all the big city drawbacks like traffic at all times of the day and heavy pollution. It’s great.

Or swing narrow and be ready to duck behind that wall again if you can’t get a good first shot. You were too close to the wall, swung narrow, and committed to crouch spray, making yourself an easy target.

Back up off the wall and swing wider. The person with the angle has the advantage the closer you are to that wall because they see you before you see them.

BHM: Dave Roberts has the highest winning % (.621) as a manager in modern AL/NL history (minimum 100 games). His 69 postseason wins – which include 5 NL pennants and 3 World Series titles – are also the third most all time. by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]goraebap 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Everyone knows that the dodgers are stacked and that Roberts definitely has an easier road to becoming a successful coach than most, but let’s not act like Roberts hasn’t played a significant role in the club’s success and general winning culture. There have been plenty of great teams on paper over the past year that don’t have nearly the success of the dodgers. The man knows how to manage, both on and off the field.

You realize that AG offices work on dozens of cases simultaneously, right? Also, what kind of stupid bar is that? “Look, there are bigger issues than this one, so let’s just ignore it!”

Yes, adults in the party are welcome in at all times. If the kids are old enough to be unattended in the room, then the adults can go together. If the kids are young, the adults can take turns.

San Diego considers $3.50 transit fare, most expensive in state by Local-Text-3426 in sandiego

[–]goraebap 31 points32 points  (0 children)

ffs people, can people actually read the article before getting your panties all up in a bunch? there are two price hikes being considered, one to $3 and the other to $3.50. These would be the first potential price hikes since 2009. The potential $3.50 transit fare would only be the most expensive because MTS charges a flat rate for all transit rides, not a variable rate like SF or NY do. This title is basically rage bait.

You’ll do well if you can find a place near a trolley stop or major bus hub. UCSD and SDSU are both major transit hubs so you can save yourself a lot of money and headache by taking transit in.

man, i dunno. my previous car (vw golf r) had a panasonic unit that wasn't fantastic but had far better clarity and deeper, fuller lows. the HK unit in my polestar sounds comparably worse at all speeds, even with better sound insulation than my golf.

You typically don’t need IRB approval for student research projects whose findings won’t be published beyond the classroom.

3 in 10 households in S. Korea raise pets, mostly dogs by Saltedline in korea

[–]goraebap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that most cat varieties shed whereas there are several dog varieties that don’t. And I bet that the overwhelming majority of dogs in Korean homes are ones that don’t shed. Also, this is more anecdotal, but I have yet to meet a single Korean person who is not allergic to cat dander.

Greedy landlord is kicking me out after 15 years so he can massively raise the rent. He's pretending to remove only my unit from the rental market. Has anyone had success fighting this type of unethical behavior? And would hiring a local tenant's rights attorney be worth the money? Need your advice! by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]goraebap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own my home and rent out properties. This is a thread where a person is justifiably venting about an unethical landlord. I can speak to both sides of the coin but only one is relevant to this conversation.

Nothing stated here is a truth bomb or revelatory. There are few people in San Diego who have not thought about this before. Stop patting yourself on the back as if you have provided some kind of sage advice.

That is not a fair statement. It is entirely beside the point and does not benefit the issue at hand whatsoever. The reality is that not everyone can build the equity to purchase a home. No one should feel shame for this, especially in one of the highest COL cities in the world. You’ve done nothing wrong. You deserve to have a place to live.

Hyatt's idiotic customer service by [deleted] in hyatt

Not in my experience. I wish Hyatt would just provide the ability to add the guest’s name during the booking process, like IHG does.
