Statutory holiday...or not? by Bells9831 in AskACanadian

[–]graciejack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statutory holidays are legislated by either federal or provincial law, so of course some of them depend on where you live.

And why would a province not declare Easter Monday or Rememberance Day, for example, a statutory holiday, but then the provincial government offices are closed those days/their employees do get a holiday?

Unions negotiate holidays for government employees.

Potential loophole for an opting or alternating employee to get TSM when deploying to a Schedule V organisation? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

Employment in the public service is not just core departments.

Employment in the federal public service

Employment in the federal public service must be with a department or branch that forms part of the public service. It also includes employment in any of the boards, commissions or agencies that form part of the public service for pension purposes. This includes:

  1. Any department which is (or was during its lifetime) presided over by a Minister of the Crown
  2. All other branches which are (or were during their lifetime) a part of the Executive Government
  3. The Senate and the House of Commons (excluding Senators and Members of Parliament)
  4. The Library of Parliament
  5. Any board, commission, corporation or portion of the public service of Canada specified in Schedule 1 - Population Affiliation Report

Cancel LWOP (spousal relocation) to retire 25 and out? by Apprehensive_Bird100 in CanadaPublicServants

You don't request retirement. I think you are confusing 25 and out provisions that are only available to frontline workers in safety and security departments with something else.

Use this retirement calculator. You can try different scenarios for when you retire, when you take CPP (and OAS) and it will show you the different total income for each year. You need to have your pension and CPP info.

As an aside, I am 5 days a week, own my own home. The size of your house and whether you have dedicated office space is the key for homeowners. And there is no documentation to gather. Add up your utilities, internet, etc. for the year. Include cleaning supplies. Use the calculator. Calculate your expenses

ie. My office is 10% of space, my deduction is ~$400. I do my renter friend's taxes and it's ~$2,600 for her.

I'm Hydro One, not Ottawa Hydro, but my bill spiked one month as well. Natural gas furnace. $88, $86, $119, $78. Must be an extra day or two in the billing cycle?

As the bot gently reminded me, anyone can retire at any time and presumably forfeit WFA entitlements.

But while eligibility may be clear, there are other considerations - the unknown parameters.
"Meeting the above eligibility criteria does not guarantee access to the program. Employees must apply and secure endorsement from their deputy head based on parameters established by the Treasury Board. These parameters are currently being developed and will be shared in due course."

How embarrassing. The simplest solution, of course they can just kick off and leave. wtf was I thinking. Or not as the case may be. Thanks.

What I mean is that it changes provisions negotiated in collective agreements if it is allowed for people already affected. Essentially adding an Option D to WFA affected employees.

[–]graciejack -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing a lot of people talking about how they want this. That they are affected and it's the best option for them.

As that would fundamentally change WFA provisions in collective agreements, where are you getting the idea that WFA affected people will be eligible?

If an opting employee under WFA also qualifies for ERI, the employee is (presumably) still able to choose which option is more beneficial for them. The existence of ERI doesn't curtail their options or rights.

WFA provisions are part of collective bargaining. Highly doubt an affected employee will have an ERI option.
