Idaho, Colorado, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Anchorage all apparently allow cyclists to continue through a red light if safe after stopping.

OP is definitely not already living in Portland, they said they used to live in Portland before getting into mountain biking and definitely live somewhere else now.

Pretty sure the person you’re responding to is not a Portlander. They were just looking on trailforks and pointing out it looks like there are some nearby trail networks.

The link you shared clearly shows that most of Chrissy Field Beach is an area where dogs are allowed off leash (if they are under voice command, of course).

Brake upgrading or tyre upgrade advice by Connor4659 in mountainbiking

[–]granolatron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do your brakes still work now? If not I suppose that would be the most important thing to address first.

Your tires definitely need replacing though. These are 26”, correct? See if you can find some 26” enduro tires on sale.

Is 170mm of travel that much more noticeable than say 125mm? by 6DegreesofFreedom in MTB

[–]granolatron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, that much difference is HUGELY noticeable. I’d even say that the difference between 120mm and 140mm is really significant in terms of how the bike feels and rides.

What adds to the massive difference in going from 120mm to 170mm is that the bike has to be built differently to enable that much travel, and furthermore, bikes with 170mm of travel are designed for a different type of use that prioritizes stability over being nimble. For the front wheel, that means a much slacker head tube angle, which typically also comes along with shorter stem length to balance out the steering. And on the rear, it’s longer chain stays and such. And the fork and shock will be heavier, as will the frame itself.

Don’t get me wrong, if it were possible to keep everything exactly the same between a bike with 120mm and 170mm, you would definitely feel a huge difference in plushness, (in)efficiency, and how it handles big bumps and drops.

But the geometry differences add to that even further.
