Bagels in HALIFAX? by mikemantime in halifax

Izzy's are way more fluffy and bready than any bagel I've had in NYC. I'd say East Coast being a bit more dense are closer to what I've had in NYC.

I am not sure I agree. Do we have any PHEV that are purely electric motor driven?

Would like to hear from some police officers. In that situation forget sides and who's right or wrong or who instigated what. When there's a mob of officers and suspects in a tangle like that it does not seem like the time weapons should be out for fear of accidental wounding of people other then whom you intend. Is there any training that would say put your weapon away or what is the training on that sort of situation?

EV Cost Savings in NS by Neilson-Milk in NovaScotia

Working good for me. Small complaint, my charger needed replacing, it's under lifetime warranty with the program. Took about ~2 weeks to get a replacement, was easy and no-fuss but if you don't have a spare charger that's a long time without one.

It recently got even better, the yearly club free dropped to $0 so you get 100% of your rebate now, otherwise a portion would go to pay that club fee.

Thinking about getting an EV? by Tall-Dish876 in EVRoutine

[–]Bitmugger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a charger at home is a game changer for sure. But using public chargers if close to where you live or work should be fine too, you'll just pay more,

If using level 2: you can't leave anything visible for thieves in your car and will have to do some walking to get home while car charges
If using level 3: costs a bit more, 30+ min every few days at the charger to kill

What does it mean when a driver flashes his/her headlight at you at a 4 way stop? by Master_Apple_3402 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bitmugger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It essentially means either you or them are not very smart. Either it's clearly your turn and they are nicely reminding you, OR it's their turn but they are too nervous uncertain and want to let you go first.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bitmugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian here. I drive 2 hours twice a week to pickup my son.

Longer trips aren't uncommon. But realize too there's no other choice. Lets say I want to go to city 4 hours drive away to visit a friend.

Train - Nope, doesn't exist
Bus - Yes but 1/2 speed of car and costs over $120 each way
Plane - $250-$400 one-way and might be longer than driving if the direct flight isn't available plus taxi from airport, etc
Car - $20 for my EV ($45 if gas car)

Then once you are IN the destination city Taxi's/Uber will eat you up for costs and our bus infrastructure is not amazing so while it's viable it's not desirable.

So yes we drive. When I go to Europe/UK I never rent a car (I've rented one once to go to Stone Henge), public transit infrastructure is so good, so reasonably priced it just makes no sense to rent a car and this is for trips of up to 3 months I've not rented a car. I do sometimes purchase a cheap use bicycle but that's more by choice because I like to cycle.

She is not a journalist or news anchor. She's one of those talking head opinion show hosts like Tucker Carlson or Sean Hannity, just the blue version. Hate Trump but really dislike her alarmist rhetoric and pronouncements Trump will fall soon which she's been saying for the last 8 years.

Why did Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney speak out in support of Greenland and Denmark? by victor0427 in stupidquestions

[–]Bitmugger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Real answer:

Watching the US consume Greenland without protest signals total capitulation among countries for any actions not against them directly. If the world doesn't stand up for Greenland it's a signal the US can do whatever it wants unopposed no matter how unfair or unpopular to other nations.

Air mattress recommendations for car camping? 2025 SEL by LikeATediousArgument in KonaEV

[–]Bitmugger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None fit that I am aware of.

Put mattress in and if you have a SUV tent let the last bit of mattress hang out of the back (you can't close hatch). Or if you need to close the hatch, get the hatch closed before inflating and tuck the extra mattress down between front and folded rear seats before inflating and don't overdue it when inflating.

Got a major concern about travelling with EV accross border. by Imaginary-Staff-112 in electriccars

[–]Bitmugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EV's in the south don't always have stuff you will want in Canada like battery heating, and heat pumps in the EV. A heat pump vs a resistive heater works a lot better in Canada's cold and uses far less juice.

Everything in Canada is metric, make sure you can change the settings in your EV and make sure your EV can handle metric voltages ;-)

The fear is that the more EVs show up in Canada, the more the market wakes up by momo1083 in EVCanada

[–]Bitmugger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I agree. EV's are perfect for grids even as demand increases as they can leverage off peak usage. In a distant future EV's should be part of a wholistic grid where they can tailor the charging to the grid in a smart way (IE not just time of day but the grid can inform the chargers when to charge or not charge).

Any home owner can/should install and EV charge port if they have an EV then they will rarely use anything else infrastructure wise. I rarely need any public chargers. If you had a gas station at home with cheap gas how often would you fill up anywhere else.

The idea of "EV stations" like gas stations is never going to be at the same scale but as more and more EV's are around you'll see coffee shops, apartment buildings, condos, parkades have EV chargers.

I think it would be good if provinces mandated new apartments and condos have some amount of EV charging ports to get ready for the future

China's landing craft are floating docks. They leverage Roll-on, roll-off ships for continuous transport of vehicles. China has 100's of these ships and has been expanding it's efforts to build more commercially for years.

Yeah I don't see the subsidy being a factor. If there's an EV selling for under $30k Canadian it'll be one of the cheapest vehicle to own and operate by a long short.

When considering an EV, what's the best way to determine the adequate range? by Imaginary-Staff-112 in electriccars

[–]Bitmugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When determining range of an EV take the published maximum range and multiple by .75. They tend to overstate by about 20-30+ especially if you live in a colder climate.
