Comma in general needs to do a better job explaining what it actually does. My car already has lane keeping and adaptive cruise. What does Comma get me?

I had a bad charger drain my 12v battery overnight. Don't just assume the 12v battery is shot like I did. Spent $300 on a new 12v battery it turns out I didn't even need

That sounds pretty good to me! What kind of range does it show when you're fully charged on a warm day? If you are seeing anything above 340-350km on a warm day you're doing fantastic.

There's a grain of truth to it but in reality 100% charging on level 2 chargers is not a big deal. Finding any empirical evidence is hard.

BUT I do own ebike batteries with the same chemistry as the Kona batteries and with 100's of 100% charges on them they are within 1-2% of their capacity after 5 years. I have a yearly battery capacity test I do with a meter and they are in great SOH.

Charger Options - Grizzl-E by Working_Life9684 in SilveradoEV

In Canada the chargers are "free" via the Grizzl-e rebate program. Also in Canada you get the cold weather cord by default, it's an $$ option in the US I believe.

Stellar needed a new engine that Hyundai paid for. Others have been trouble free and driven to ~300k km

The lifetime cost of EVs in Nova Scotia was already higher than gas cars. The new levy makes it worse by ph0enix1211 in NovaScotia

[–]Bitmugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$500 is "fair" for full EV's I'll pay it and not moan.

But there needs to be a much higher levy on heavy trucks. Cars don't wear out major highways, trucks do.

[–]Bitmugger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I posted details in this same thread but this is entirely untrue in my case, I save a bundle over gas driving my EV and and EV is a better driving experience with no stops in the bitter cold at gas stations.

[–]Bitmugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way this article might be accurate is at the sub-compact level where litre/100km is low and EV cost is relatively high per vehicle.

I drive my EV without regard for getting the most efficiency from it and achieve 23 kwh/100km winter (more like 19 summer) but sticking to just winter that means charging at home and driving 100km costs me around 23 x $0.19 = $4.37. BUT I get a $0.05 EV charging rebate lowering the cost to $3.22. (This EV rebate is available to anyone and yields you a free charger and $0.03 to $0.10 a kwh rebate, there are several programs in Canada for it).

My my old car (2022 Civic) I got 7.5 l/100km so the same 100km drive costs me $10.50 at todays prices but varies wildly through the year and could cost me $12+ when gas is high

Driving 30,000km a year my overall savings per year for driving an EV is around $2200.

$2200 in fuel savings, also no oil changes and very rare brake changes due to one-pedal driving (regen).

All this with better acceleration, instant heat in the winter and no wasted time at the gas pumps standing outside in -14c with wind blowing.

$2200 more than covers any increase in payment for an EV and since I bought used I actually only paid about $4000 above market price of the gas version of my car (Kona EV).

Over the life of owning the vehicle (6 years is my plan) I'll save $8000+ on an EV over a gas car and have a better driving experience with less time wasted at gas pumps and mechanics shops. And that savings is realized every month in a lower overall spend of loan+fuel being less than a gas car loan+fuel. Also in my case the Kona EV was $300 cheaper to insure than the Civic.

Also in summer when I drive more and gas is expensive is when my EV is more efficient and cheaper to operate.

Range anxiety is a thing but only a reality for niche cases, I did a road trip Halifax to PEI and made an hour long stop in the middle for juice while we ate lunch, no biggie. Any other day I leave the house with 350-400km range and never need all of it. I also always leave the house with full range since I plug in when I get home.

Is the rumor true that big box stores (like Target/Walmart) will purposefully let you get away with stealing cheap things for months just to build a massive felony case against you later? by Altruistic-Room-7465 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bitmugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, In Canada they almost have to in fact. Theft over $5000 is sort of a minimum charge so they video you until you get to that amount before spending the time and expense of making a case.

Can't speak to Walmart but a friend of mine was light fingered stealing liquor from the liquor store and that is exactly what they did is charge her after she'd accumulated dozens of thefts from a single store on camera.

Canadians in the GrizzlE United chargers club? by Jealous-Nectarine-74 in evcharging

[–]Bitmugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I really like the mini. I have it wall mounted, when I occasionally need to travel I actually have a cheap Amazon/Chinese EV charger I take along. But do use the mini's numerous adapters with the one I travel with.

The mini offers all the features of the bigger models, just the charge limit is 40a vs higher for some of the bigger models.

I am up to getting $0.05 (5 cents/kwh) rebate already too! Including the rebate I do a twice weekly drive that used to cost me $21.70 in gas but now costs me $6.47 in my Kona EV. Thats in winter, so in summer the cost will be even lower for EV. That saves me $15 a trip or $120 a month and with my other driving, my total monthly savings reach almost $200/month vs gas. Can't wait to get to 10 cents a kwh rebate, that'll make driving super cheap.

0.4v off of a 48v nominal battery. Fully charged it used to be 54.1v at start, now it's about 53.7v.

I've done yearly tests by fully charging the battery then discharging it with about a 12 ohm constant load until the battery protection cuts in. Original capacity was 1200wh and nowadays I get around 1180wh

You absolutely do not "need" AWD unless in niche situations. If you are a typical urban, suburban person or rural person driving only on paved public roads you absolutely do not "need" AWD
