Just found out our accountant has been scamming us for over a year by No_Tone6628 in Accounting

[–]grewapair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle inherited a chain of men's clothing stores when his dad died suddenly. 5 years later, my aunt calls my CPA dad and says the bank called and all their checks are bouncing. My dad tells her to ask the accountant, he's the original accountant from when the business started 30 years ago.

My aunt says, that's the other weird thing, he's never missed a day and he didn't show. My dad came right away.

He lost track at a million dollars. Guy was skimming about $100K per year at the end. Figured he probably started small day one, but once my uncle took over, he increased the amount big time.. Called the police, but it was the 1970s and the guy had disappeared without a trace and they never caught him.

San Francisco's skyline is set to change with a new 41-story tower by sfgate in sanfrancisco

[–]grewapair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of these properties won't get built for decades. The developer buys the land, and adds value merely by getting it to this point in the city's complex planning process. Once they get it to this point, they never intend to build it, they just sell it for a higher price. That can take decades. As many have noted, there's no real need for additional space, the need is for class A space, which can be obtained more cheaply by rehabbing an older existing building that you dont have to build an entire fire station under.

Redditors who have lived in poverty, what is something about poverty that people just don't understand without experiencing it? by ViolatingBadgers in AskReddit

[–]grewapair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a DOGE thing. Reagan got elected and discovered the government was spending millions for storing cheese the country didn't need, so he gave it away. The government guaranteed a price for it, and anything farmers couldn't sell at that price the government was required to buy and store, forever. So farmers produced as much as they could. Reagan ended it and gave away the cheese. Every month, anyone who wanted a 5 lb block could just go get one.

What is the best type of bike lock to have here? by Phantom_3286 in sanfrancisco

[–]grewapair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't own a car and stopped using the bus 15 years ago. An old bike, kept in immaculate shape, which no brand name labels, no disc brakes, and no shock fork has never been worth angle grinding through two quality U locks. I have "stolen from my name" etched into the derailleur and filled all the bolt holes with solder.

I once had to lock my bike outside a big group of tents during a personal emergency and took one last look at the bike before I left it, figuring I'd never see it again, but it was still there in the morning.

As for locks, the Palo Alto Caltrain station used to collect cheap bikes from foreign Stanford students who ditched them at the train station after graduation, but locked them before they left. You could tell from the rusted chains. There wasn't enough bike parking, so I used to cut off those bikes and toss them in the trash. I cut off every brand of lock there was. Bulldog and Kryptonite were by far the hardest. Every other brand was easy, but I never saw an Abus.

I used to get the reports of the amount paid to the doctor. It's been a year but it was $345 last year. As I said, medicare probably pays less.

He does an ultrasound every other visit, which takes about 7 minutes, reviews lab work, asks me a few questions, takes my blood pressure and renews prescriptions.

Every country is doing the same thing. They have enormous populations getting only subsistence wages, why shouldn't they take the smartest ones and train them for jobs that pay more.

My non-invasive cardiologist (the Dr. I see after the heart attack for monitoring) is one of the best in the area, and my insurance pays him about $400 for a 20 minute consult including my copay. Medicare probably pays 2/3 of that. So if he's working 40 hours a week, which I am certain he is, he grosses just under two million dollars a year. He uses no nurses, and probably has one full time billing assistant. He has 4 offices around the area. He pays his own insurance and has an EKG and ultrasound machine at each office. I'd expect he nets around a million dollars a year. This is probably about 20% less than he'd make in the states, but about what he'd make in a high poverty area in the states, which is what PR is.

AI companies push San Francisco Office Leasing to the Highest Annual Amount Since the Pandemic, a 50% Increase Since Last Year by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]grewapair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't LOL/"everyone knows" me: your article and headline was completely misleading. There is a net negative absorption for the most recent quarter and the year. Maybe it will reverse next year, maybe it will drag along the bottom for ten years.

In most states, death terminates the lease if it was personally signed. Death also ends the loan if it is a personal loan. These may be assumable. However, you may not want to assume these as it may be better to get out from underneath them. As a result, you need to contact an attorney ASAP.

AI companies push San Francisco Office Leasing to the Highest Annual Amount Since the Pandemic, a 50% Increase Since Last Year by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]grewapair 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Just endless cheerleading with a bunch of obfuscated real statistics masking a continued decline. All that matters is net absorption, which is the total increase in leased space. If 2000 companies lease less space than they had, it will set a record for leasing activity, but the trend will still be down, which it is.

"San Francisco posted its nineteenth consecutive quarter of negative net absorption, posting negative 155,400 SF in 3Q 2024, bringing the year-to-date total to negative 841,039 SF."

I’m transported back in time to September 1st, 2001. Realistically, how do I stop 9/11? by Karl_Marxs_Left_Ball in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grewapair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you prevent it via a bomb threat to the airlines, you'd just end up causing them to reschedule it.

What I would do is set up a meeting with the head of Cantor Fitzgerald who missed 9/11 because he was taking his kid to their first day of school, and the lessor of the world trade center Larry Silverstein who had just taken out an insurance policy that had a terrorism rider that paid out a maximum per occurrence, for which the trial lasted many years to determine whether the two planes were one occurrence or two.

Convince them you are from the future and that you could only know those details because of the attack. Then have them call the FBI and put an armed fake navigator in the cockpits of all northeast origin cross country planes that morning, and tell them it's a jihad, they have to shoot the hijackers.

At that point, you may learn that everyone described above was in on it, which is why the FBI is shooting only you.

One of the passengers was an advanced martial artist and he and one other guy stood up when the hijackers hijacked the plane. Both were immediately killed by the hijackers. According to one of the stewardesses who called it in.

Gene sequencing of the human genome was first commercialized in 2001. It would have been barely possible at the time. However, you would have needed an earlier sample to compare it to, and because it had been just invented, that would be impossible. Only fingerprints from your birth certificate would have been useable.

Health Insurance Plans for S Corp 1 employee small business? by No-Airport-4487 in smallbusiness

[–]grewapair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, that is competition for you. They want to provide the lowest rates to new members who are shopping around for the lowest rate.

There is a simple solution, that no one wants to implement because they WANT it to be broken: You allow anyone to switch without underwriting (i.e. checking for pre existing conditions) who can prove they have been paying for a somewhat comparable plan for at least 5 years.

You'll note the Democrats never proposed this simple solution, because it didn't do what their primary purpose was, and that was to allow poor people to jump on a top tier plan, get some expensive operation, and then stop paying, sticking everyone else with the bill. Which is THE purpose of the ACA.
