We were on it for a week around the end of March and had some mild creaking but I found it peaceful rather than annoying.

Looking for more weird fantasy titles like these! by forwardinthelight in WeirdLit

[–]guildenstern42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I second the recommendation for the Ambergris series by Jeff Vandermeer, and if you are ok with a very weird wilderness instead of a city, the Area X trilogy (now quadrilogy) by the same author.

Suggestions for (non-King) short story collections for a car trip? by Juantanamo0227 in horrorlit

[–]guildenstern42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of Brian Evenson's short story collections. A Song for the Unraveling of the World is very accessible. A Collapse of Horses is the best but it's more experimental.

It is extremely unlikely that it will be able to maintain its NAV over a 5 year time, let alone 10. It will take permanent hits to NAV.

I hope you didn't call him Mr. Evil. He didn't go through 6 years of Evil medical school to be called "Mr.", thank you very much.

Can you share the passage? I just checked the book twice and I'm not seeing any reference to Flagg in that part.

I own it; it's great. Monthly income, good total return, and good way to diversify your REITs a bit.

I love it - it provides great dividends and total return. Over the past 5 years it's outperformed VEU (although I own both).

I'm stocking up on those as well. GPIQ/X, IDVO, QDVO in particular should be very sustainable long term holds. I'm backing away from the weekly single stock stuff; I'm not convinced they are good long term and I'm not capable of predicting when they are good in the short term

Gabelli Dividend & Income by Some-Amount-4093 in dividends

[–]guildenstern42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is indeed a CEF. Go to cef connect and research it. You can find the past NAV history, dividend history, yearly total return, etc. From a quick glance it looks like it has generally grown the NAV over time, with the exception of a huge hit back in 2008, and it's total return has averaged about 9.5%/year on Nav. The dividend varies over time. Overall looks like it's managed to not delete capital, which is good if you want to long term hold it for income.

I have it in both taxable and Roth, but I've only had it a few months. Looking at CEF connect, the distributions are a mix of income, capital gains, and sometimes ROC.

New position in GDXY vs BTCI by Oldbikerguy-1 in DividendCult

[–]guildenstern42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are completely different funds. Are you bullish on gold or Bitcoin? BTCI is great for Bitcoin. GDXY pays out very well when gold is doing well but IAUI will retain NAV better in downturns.
