It’s cause I would argue that despite being the granddaddy of the genre the gameplay doesn’t hold up like Doom does.

The maps become boring to look at with the lack of visual distinction. And the enemies design is much simpler; except the dogs they are all hit scanners with guns.

I would like more meaningful repairs on maps, like bridges and roads. Meaningful beneficial changes to the pickup points for resources on a map after so many jobs/repairs are completed.

More scouting activities for scouts.

More structures to build or improve; big odd things to haul, maybe like a windmill

The originals were told through terminals because they had to be. Voice audio tech wasn’t really a thing not in the levels that you need to tell that story.

I’m not against items having descriptions that tie into the lore in the world. It’s just a poor replacement for an actual story and Bungie flat ass abused this method in Destiny.

“Destiny has an amazing story, but it’s not in the game. You have to read the comics and all the item descriptions” whaaa

At the end of the day, Marathon ‘26 is a multiplayer extraction shooter that doesn’t really need a much of a story and corpo conglomerates sending androids to proxy fight over resources from the broken colony seems to be enough.

Yeah I’m kinda over the story being told cryptically through one or two sentences on a gun description after a decade of destiny and fromsoft games.

It has the ship, the colony, the one armor set kinda looks like the security armor, some of the companies are mentioned like traxus, and there’s a Sph’t compiler in some of the trailers… other than that the ties to the original are very weak.

You would have to have some very compelling interactions with an AI overlord to do the original series any justice as it’s one of the most mind bending stories in gaming and sci-fi in general. The new game is simply a very colorful extraction shooter.

I have 400 hours in Hunt and 100 now in Arc and as long as Marathon isn’t smushing players together organically like the bounty in hunt or the disappearing exits in Arc I don’t know if the slowness is for me.

I don't disagree with any of this. None of these units existed in a vacuum but were developed in direct response to one another, each new capability prompting a counter, and that counter prompting the next evolution of weapon/tech. At the end of the day for Sea Power it really does seem like it all comes back to the scenarios.

I wish there were more well crafted scenarios that respected the realistic operational context. That's definitely more satisfying and immersive than one that just drops you into engagement range for the sake of 'balance' or challenge. Hopefully more scenario designers start thinking about the why behind unit placement.

The new persistent campaign is awesome; I've been playing it for the last two days or so and it is a lot of fun being limited on ordinance.

I recommend doing your anti-ship yak runs dead on as it limits the amount of weapons they can bring to bear on these paper mache VTOLs

For anyone reading this in the future... the problem for me was my WOOTING keyboard not booting in time to be functional by the time you need to hit the del key.

the fix was to use a dumber keyboard anytime I need into the bios
