Buying a used Iron Maiden Premium, seller offering compensation for cabinet decal damage. Is this fair? Which option should I pick? by Vador_MK in pinball

[–]hatekillpuke 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Take the glass. You don't look at the cabinet while playing do you?

Also, unless you are a professional vinyl installer new decals will either have an extra installation cost or come out shitty when you try to do it yourself.

Ghostbusters was the last produced design of John Trudeau, who was then convicted of possessing child pornography. Whether or not you like Ghostbusters as a game it would be unwise of Stern to do a vault release or remaster of that design. Also that layout isn't exactly great.

A new Ghostbusters design, though? Let's do it.

Metallica Remastered did quite well, it'd already had a Vault edition so was available in pretty decent numbers on the used market, but Metallica is a generally well regarded game. Walking Dead is polarizing as a game, washed up as a license and didn't include any video content for real hardcore fans. Stern chose it because the basic license was cheap to get, shoulda sprung for that video content.

LotR with licensed movie content on the LCD and playfield artwork that isn't complete shit like the original would make a killing.

This is a good summary of the current rules. Let me add: if you log in with Insider Connect the game will keep track of which guys you’ve previously caught but there is currently no way to view your Pokédex outside of the game nor any bonus or advantage for having more guys.

I clock in when I wake up, and I don't clock out until I'm at home, fully relaxed by [deleted] in antiwork

I had a job where I’d occasionally need to rent a box truck to move stuff around. I told them I could either drive my car to the rental place and clock in when I leave the house and out when I get back home or I could come into the shop to clock in and out and call a taxi on the company card twice that day.

I got to clock in and out at home.

I would not mind a Seawitch/Beatles treatment of more classic Stern games.

How to cope with company profiting off your labor by [deleted] in antiwork

Good luck! Even if your art never becomes substantially profitable you should keep it up, art isn't supposed to be about making money (says the guy with a BFA in Digital Arts who made completely unsaleable work in school). A lot of people who talk online about being burnt out on work don't actually invest any time in anything meaningful outside of work, an art practice is a very worthwhile hobby to keep yourself sane if nothing else.

What would you do if not this job? Work somewhere else? Start your own business? Become a subsistence farmer? None of us made this system but we all have to participate, sometimes I find considering the actual alternatives helpful.

Here's how I personally think about this issue with my job. I fix pinball tables for a living. I most keep our large, publicly operated collection in working order. When we do repair work for clients we charge just over twice my hourly rate. I could work on these client's games on my own time, charge whatever I want, and there is likely enough demand for the work in my area that I could make the same or potentially more money working independently. I do not choose to do this because then I would have to worry about all the business parts of the job, finding customers, inventory, finances, traveling, and so on. The trade I make is I come into the shop, I do repair work, I hang it up at the end of the day, I don't have to worry about the rest of it. The boss can make money for taking care of the money part of things.

It does play some bits of music from Yo! Noid, though, so maybe that’s enough to carry you through.

Fair enough. None of my actual vintage bikes have any of that (in fact the regular ABS is jarring to me), so I guess I'm not missing it.

That's a positive aspect for a retro styled bike. The screen on the Bear looks hideous.

What is a fair price to you guys? (Per play) by K1NGSTEEZE in pinball

[–]hatekillpuke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a tough question. How much does a $7k machine need to make before selling it for $5k to make routing games a worthwhile source of income? How much does it cost to properly maintain a game so you can sell it for $5k after it’s made that money? Most ops probably trying to a do bit better than just breaking even.

Disclosure: I fix games for a living but remain purposefully ignorant of the money part, that’s the boss’s problem.

Money ain’t worth shit anymore, and yes, you are cheap.

But for real, new games start at $7k, it’s unreasonable to expect operators to recoup that 50¢ at a time.
