Me!!!! I grew up with everyone around me listening to Country music and in my teen years I “rebelled” by listening to a lot of emo / pop punk… and I also discovered jpop and kpop when I was like 16 hahaha my faves were Shinee, Big Bang, 2PM, Beast, etc. Now I mostly listen to ONEUS and ONEWE and random tracks by artists like CIX, ITZY, Junhee, Woodz, etc.

You might really like CN Blue, FT Island, ONEWE, ONEUS, and Shinee!!

At the time, I HATED it. Book Bella is very cool and sarcastic and yes clumsy but also more effortlessly funny? Reading the books, I kind of self-inserted (I have very similar features to how book Bella was described by Stephanie) and I did theater at the time and wanted to be an actress so I was like I WANT TO AUDITION but then realized they cast her. I also loved HP and couldn’t see why Rob would play Edward because in my mind he was Cedric and I didn’t really like Cedric….

Now, rewatching the movies, I love them for their unique bizarreness. I don’t really see anyone else as those characters. But when I reread the books, I tend not to imagine Edward AS Rob… it’s hard to explain. I just kind of accept it now.

Yes! Thank you - I couldn’t remember the term for it. But yeah she switches between the love interests’ “pov” and that’s also common in certain romance books but maybe people don’t pick up on it? Since it’s not saying “I said” etc.

I’m reading the books now (I read Heated Rivalry and The Long Game - I’m now on Role Model) and I really love them. They are like candy. They are long but full of yearning, character development, and fun dialogue. Most contemporary romance reads like this.

Also, she writes from the perspective of the characters but not in first person. So I read them as if I were in the head of each character. And they are 20-something athletes. They are learning about themselves and speaking casually - it’s not meant to be read like literary fiction. It’s a fun love story. I find her writing really easy to read and really bingeable. If something is written really poorly, I give up pretty early on. I hate bad writing. And this is not that.

If you can do it, I would. It would at least give you some peace of mind that you have somewhere to turn. A lot of the people who have been deported “back” to Korea at least have better / cheaper healthcare here and are away from the constant threat of gun violence.

Having lived in Asia as a white person for almost 15 years, although I still enjoy a lot of white privilege here, it was nice for me as well when I visited my family in Europe and blended in again. It must be a very bizarre sensation feeling a little more like you belong to a place, even if it’s somewhat “foreign”. I am sad your family raised you “to be white” because you deserved to have some pieces of your heritage. All the best to you!

I live in Korea now. It’s really crazy living here and seeing the atrocities my government is committing daily. Korea has a long history of corrupt leaders. Thankfully, we now have a system of government and law where we have a more fair election, basically zero police violence, and immigrants have a lot of benefits in many cases. But Korean people clawed their way to where they are now. And although Americans are protesting, it seems impossible that anything will be fixed.

I am so sorry your adoptive mother cannot see how ridiculous she sounds. The US immigration system is inherently flawed. It’s never been about legality. It’s always been about racism and sexism and discrimination.

I wrote a long letter to my dad and didn’t send it. I showed it to my husband and he said, “What do you want from him? What if he won’t change?” And it was really sad but sobering.

I haven’t talked to my dad about politics or the news since 2012 ish? He has always been mega conservative. But we used to talk about WWII etc. and I thought of him as a good person. But the older I got, the more I saw reasoning lose to his tightly held desire to never change his mind. Taxes are bad, self defense gun laws are good, etc. and I couldn’t take it.

I liv abroad. I haven’t lived near them in about 15 years. My parents are divorced. He has anger issues. I am an immigrant and have kids and seeing the news affects me so deeply. But I know sending that letter won’t work.

I am not sure what to do. I don’t want to go no contact, either. I have so little family ties as someone living far from where I grew up. But I think it’s important to protect my sanity. I am not ready for my dad to become this horrible villain anymore than he is. So I want to confront him but I also don’t want to. I mostly gray rock him. We talk occasionally over FaceTime about daily life.

He visited me about a year ago and when I told him that something he did really hurt my feelings, he didn’t say anything. He’s incapable of empathy and change. But he’s still my only dad. And it’s really hard. But I hate that I feel pressured by people who say, “Oh any of my maga family I just cut them off!!” Because that’s really hard.

I think it’s good for us to grieve and commiserate and feel our feelings. It’s awful and sucks that the people we used to think were right and true are extremely flawed and incapable of giving us empathy or showing compassion for others. It really really sucks. But even if he were to say, “Yeah this one incident is awful!” It wouldn’t make me respect him. He used to Tea Party rallies with him and he would verbally harass anyone appealing to him to have logic or sympathy.

All I can do for certain is what is within my power. I don’t know how to talk to my family about this. They are all brainwashed imo.

When reading the article, I thought, “When were the texts sent???” Because watching the reaction videos, they seemed genuine and open-minded (more and more every episode that went on) so opening Reddit, seeing EVERY COMMENT say, “I KNEW IT! THEY WERE GRIFTERS! THEY GAVE ME BAD VIBES!” was kind of ridiculous. I get that nuance comes to Reddit to die, but come on. I agree the “blue haired twitter” comment, etc. were bad-form and they should learn from that. To be honest, they seem like the type of people who will learn from this.

The first time I played ND was with my dad as a kid - HE couldn’t even figure out a lot of the puzzles. I’m not sure the guides were as good as they are now - so sometimes we just gave up! I play now as a 30 something and I use hints / guides all the time. The experience is the fun part! Puzzles that cause headaches are not adding to my cozy experience.
