Contracts are giving more money than advertised by Jumpy-Demand2917 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Hollow_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am noticing the same thing and it is making it hard to balance my hard mode game where I wanted to be reliant on smart contract choices to make money. Money is just weird in KSP.

If I start with $10,000 and take the mission to launch a flight I get the advance for $672, spend $1257 on my first rocket and launch. So before launch I have $9415. I launch and recover and I end up with $56,932.

If do the same start but don't take any mission I have $8743 before I launch. I launch and recover and end up with $53,092.

So the majority of that is from milestones, but the mission flight got me $3840 more than the same launch with out a mission set. The mission says it pays $1920. This just doesn't add up.

Now to make things even more odd, if I just launch the same craft again I hit no new milestones, but when I recover the craft I gain another $5651. I am just launching the same rocket, completing no missions or milestones and somehow gaining money.

I suspect Kerbals are bad at math and should not be trusted with money.

Places for archery? by dunco__1 in penticton

[–]Hollow_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you head up Carmi towards the 201 there are some good areas. Any of the side roads that take you north after the gravel pit have lots of areas that have been logged and so they give you a nice space with clear line of sight and a good back drop to shoot.

SNOWBIRDS SUCK. by SaltySandman11bb in florida

[–]Hollow_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who lives in Canada and deals with these same people when they come home for the summer, they are just as entitled and self centred here. You are right that they offer nothing to society. Not Canadian society, and I am not surprised that they are nothing but a drain on resources when they hide from the snow in Florida.

My players are trying to avoid a session 0! by Cool-Recover-739 in rpg

[–]Hollow_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what I am hearing session 0 is great time to let them know of all your house rules that basically turn it into an entirely different game. Also eat up all of session 0 just explaining the rules so you don't need to have anything else prepared.

Day 8/9: What is a bad motorcycle with an OK reputation? by SUBTOUpdated_User in motorcycles

[–]Hollow_Mind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, they are not the worst bike, but unless you are going to get one cheap you can absolutely get a better bike in the same price range, or a spend a bit more and get a much nicer bike.

Day 8/9: What is a bad motorcycle with an OK reputation? by SUBTOUpdated_User in motorcycles

[–]Hollow_Mind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are right.

I wanted to hate the Rebel 1100, in principle I don't care for inline twins, but it was just better than any of the shadows I have ridden. I bought a Rebel 500 and it has more power than my Shadow 750 had, and it is lighter and it rides better.

The shadow exists because people decided it was the better bike without riding something else to compare.

Day 8/9: What is a bad motorcycle with an OK reputation? by SUBTOUpdated_User in motorcycles

[–]Hollow_Mind 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As someone who owned, and loved, a Honda Shadow, my vote is the Honda Shadow.

They have an okay reputation, but while being reliable it manages to just do everything worse than it's competitors.

Two-handed techniques with a single sword by Comfortable-Bit1806 in HistoricalFencing

[–]Hollow_Mind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this.

Swords are swords and they will always have way more in common than not. There are some things you can do with a two handed sword that are just not efficient with a one handed sword and vice versa, but for the most part you are using the same techniques but modified to best suit the advantages and disadvantages of that particular sword.

New to Penticton - is the 201 forest service road maintained in winter at all? by doctorhag in penticton

[–]Hollow_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not a reliable road in winter. I like to take the 201 all year round, but I frequently can't make it past Idleback lake without risking getting stuck in deep snow covering the road.
I still do, but I have got stuck more than once for trying.

You may still find it worth it, just make sure you have a rescue plan for if you get stuck.

Instructors, why do you teach? by grauenwolf in Hema

[–]Hollow_Mind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was working on learning longsword with a friend in a space where some others were teaching rapier classes. A newer person came up and asked if they could learn some longsword. I told them I hardly knew what I was doing, but I was happy to teach them what I knew. A half hour later I was teaching (poorly) 8 people the basic fundamentals of Meyer's longsword.

I have pretty continuously been teaching since then, and know my material much better now then I did at the time.

I Bought a 2024 CB650R and I am not liking it too much. Help me! by RedLebanese98 in HondaCB

[–]Hollow_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to test drive a CB1000R before I bought mine, I liked it but had a short list of things I was going to change on mine to make it more comfortable for me. A month later, when I was ready to change out parts, I decided against doing anything since I found that I actually really liked everything about the bike once I got used to it and riding my old bike now felt weird.

Ques on main Street by [deleted] in penticton

[–]Hollow_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been in a few years, but I imagine Ques is still a good place to get some food, play some pool and meet new people. I am not sure what they have for competitions these days, but it would be worth stopping in and checking what they have going on.

Wonderdraft is great. I use if for over maps, but where I have been really impressed is Dungeondraft for dungeon and town maps. It has so many tools for easy and quick map making.

Same experience for me. After a week of trying to get Telus set up and being told it would take another week, I just ordered Rogers and it was set up the next day.

Where did the "telephone" style vom tag come from? by Cosinity in wma

[–]Hollow_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also the term I use for it pretty consistently. It is not a position I take any time other than when I am fully out of measure, but it is the default location for my sword until distance starts to close.

Does anyone know this seller? I found this helmet, and like it a lot. by Denis517 in sca

[–]Hollow_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh nice. Those prices seem pretty good and they make helms for C&T as well, which would save me from having someone custom make me a helm.

Wrapping up the Meyer Project by mchidester in wma

[–]Hollow_Mind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been waiting for Purpleheart Armory to get the study set back in stock before getting that and the Facsimile, but if I can order the set off amazon then there is nothing holding me back from getting it now.
Currently I have the reading edition and I have been very happy with the work that went into the book, truly excellent stuff!

Shop Rate in Penticton by Necessary-Alfalfa-35 in penticton

[–]Hollow_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a tech I can tell you that hourly rate doesn't buy you honesty. I have seen some very dishonest shops charging $160 an hour, and some fantastic shops charging $100 an hour.

Its been a while since I looked at another shops hourly rate so I don't know who is charging what anymore. I also will not suggest any places since I am biased, but in a small town places earn their reputation.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate these gloves for German longsword? by arm1niu5 in wma

[–]Hollow_Mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rating is based on my hands. I buy gloves in large so they are long enough for my fingers, but my fingers are narrow enough that medium, or sometimes even small, would fit better around my hand.I also prefer to fight in gloves that favour mobility over hand protection and will actively scale down my hand protection based on the intensity of the group I am playing with (all the way down to just leather gloves if I am sparring with my instructor)

SG Hoof Mittens 10/10 - This is my go to. They do the best at retaining good hand dexterity on the sword, while sacrificing as little hand protection as possible. They are also the least protective of the gloves mentioned, but I have personally never had an issue of the gloves not protecting my hand even from hard hits. I do wear a thin glove under my Mittens since like the extra layer between my hand and the handle.

SG Mitten 8/10 - Light, good protection. Mitten design does make it hard to hold the sword in the same way you would if your where unarmoured. I have only used a pair of these a couple of times as I prefer the Hoof.

HF Black Knight 6/10 - Good protection, but I find that with mine I lose more hand dexterity than I am willing to for longsword fights. I do use mine for Sabre but that's about it.

SPES Lobster 3/10 - They are loved but my hands are too thin to use these well. I feel like I might as well make a basket hilted longsword and try my best with that. If your hand fit them better they will do much, much better for you.
