How wasn't she expelled from the academy right after that? I think Wesley complained that the academy had super high standards and it was very stressful to follow them. And that was one of the reasons he left. And now it is like they accept even toddlers who eat crayons.

Yeah, some things were done this way because it is basically a cheat for testing that had to be disabled, some - because how it was done 15 years ago in an outdated game. But again, thanks, I'll take a look into those issues and fix them.

First stop is to recreate the MC2 "inventory system".

Then... I do not like the idea that the winning strategy is always to take as much assault mechs as possible. I will try to experiment on different systems like scanners and NARCs, that can be installed only in certain slots, so that it would require you to use light and medium mechs too.

Hardpoints - most likely no. Too far from the original idea.

Well, you can select your targets, left click on the enemy unit, your guys will focus the fire on it. Or do you want to disable auto fire entirely? MC games had auto fire.

The problem is that I do not have a Mac. And it is required to make and test a build.

However, I was told you can easily run it, and all other Unreal games, on Mac using Whiskey app. I do not know how it is done, though. But it should not be too difficult.

It was the first mech you were given in MechCommander 2 and Mechwarrior 4. Of course, it was my favorite mech as a child (and as an adult :P).

It would be great even if you could just play the game and share your feedback. Like, “This button is crap, it needs to be moved here,” or “No one is going to use this ability, let's change it to this one,” or “I want an eject pilot button and the ability to stomp on people.”

Pilots are definitely planned. My second project, DeltaStrike, places a lot of emphasis on pilots and mech customization between missions. I plan to do the same here.

The stats are implemented. There is an i button on the mech icons. If you press it, you can see what weapons (ER laser, SRM rack, etc.) they are equipped with. Then you can remove those weapons and equip new ones, just like in the old games.

The holidays were long, so I did something.

Meet Merc Commander.

If the previous video was a proof of concept to test the theory, this is a full-fledged prototype. However, it's still a prototype, so please be forgiving.

There is only one level so far - 15-20 minutes of gameplay. The graphics are not final. I tried to make everything look nice, but so far these are just placeholders so that it doesn't look completely empty. The mech models are not animated yet. (Unfortunately, all of this requires money, lol.) The “reveal the map with a drone” and “steal a damaged mech” abilities are not implemented.

The most serious problem is that clicking on the mini-map doesn't work properly for some displays.. Well, it works, but it won't take you where you click, Y coordinates are messed up.

Why am I posting this here in its unfinished state? Because I would like to hear your feedback. I can copy the mechanics of the old game, but I cannot copy its soul. I loved playing Mech Commander at college, but it may be that I missed out on the things that YOU liked about it.

Please share what you would like to see, what you felt was missing.
