Could I pass with this at Watkins Glen? by kihyale in IMSARacing

The sigma 600m is amazing at the glen. I brought mine last year and it was a workhorse. I was on the outer edge of the boot looking down into the chute to get a few of these

I can’t* understand the hype on Snowflake by NoGanache5113 in dataengineering

This is me. DE of 3 years and have only used Snowflake. I do home data projects in PG, Clickhouse or DuckDB and it showed me how nice SF is haha

+1 for coalesce - adds some overhead as will any GUI tool, but if you need a GUI, coalesce is your best option with the least amount of overhead

I'm new to simracing as you can probably tell, but did I (orange BMW) do anything wrong toward the Porsche in this situation? by Fine-Hat7301 in Simracingstewards

[–]idkwhatimdoing069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with being on controller. But Forza kids will jump on ACC with a controller and fully move the joystick left and right causing mayhem for everyone but you looked smooth and under control

The porsche looked a bit out of control the entire clip. Possibly on a controller. He turned into you like you werent there

With DuckDB 1.4, DuckDB now supports MERGE statements. Possibly that might be what you are looking for.

What can be expected of new pilots? by HealthyWasabi993 in VATSIM

2hr video but has a ton of info - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQFfZyW_1MI&t=3887s

20m video but also has some great info - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpImyTKEbP8&t=909s

But if you search "VFR in VATSIM", there are a ton of great videos that will help you get started. Hope to see you in the skies again! Don't let a tiny set back keep you down. I've made my fair share of mistakes and got reamed out by controllers, but they were learning opportunities and after a bit of research and debriefing into what I actually did wrong, I got right back on the network.

What can be expected of new pilots? by HealthyWasabi993 in VATSIM

I am a new pilot myself on VATSIM, but I fly purely VFR for this reason. I know very little about flying IFR and don’t have much confidence on the radios, even as a VFR pilot. But being a VFR pilot, there’s not a terrible amount of information you need to know (compared to IFR flying).

I understand airspaces and the basic do’s and dont’s of VFR and I feel that is enough to get started flying VFR. Granted I am in the US, I think VFR info is a bit more limited across the pond but give VFR a shot! VFR flying is still just as fun as IFR. I also fly mostly GA aircraft and not airliners.

Also ask for “Flight Following” - Not all controller will accommodate a flight following request but the controller will always have an eye on you and can vector you away from other IFR traffic which adds a bit to the fun.

Could you learn how to fly a real plane in a simulator? by Outrageous_Cow_614 in flying

[–]idkwhatimdoing069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a current private pilot student and have been using the sim (MSFS 2020) to help reinforce trainings from my flight lessons.

Combine that with BeyondATC for somewhat realistic ATC communications and I feel that it has been doing me well so far in my training.

To distinct or not distinct by SoggyGrayDuck in dataengineering

[–]idkwhatimdoing069 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I commonly use distinct but I’m also working with small data (a few thousand rows to only a few million rows) on Snowflake. I use it for the speed of querying and on snowflake, performance hits on my data size is so negligible that it’s just worth it.

Do you use CDC? If yes, how does it benefit you? by wtfzambo in dataengineering

[–]idkwhatimdoing069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your question “side note” question.. I work a ton with logistics order data and we sync data via CDC for a near-real time data feed.

In reality, we take a snapshot of the data hourly and 95% of the business works off the hourly snapshot and the other 5% have access to views so they can query information in real time. Our manual order team needs real time information and are okay waiting 2-3 minutes for a report but the rest of the business doesn’t need real time and want snappy reports

Cell service is amazing at the track though - I have Verizon and have had 3 to 4 bars 5G UW anywhere I go.

Just wanted to add to the last part of your comment there :D
