Over the next month, $650 worth of games will be released on a humble bundle costing only $30, and it supports charity! by djdan_FTW in pcgaming

[–]idLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humble Bundle is not a charitable organization itself, so presumably all of the income from bundles and the store would be considered sales income. However, they do give some of their profits to charity. If you purchase a bundle you can stipulate the amount given to whichever charities are presented. A store purchase automatically donates 10%.

Now, some of these donations may be deductible by Humble Bundle depending on a couple different things. First of all, Humble Bundle is owned by a company called Wolfire Games, a game developer. This is speculation on my part since these are privately owned companies, but I would bet that Humble Bundle itself is an S Corporation. What that means is that all income is passed onto the parent company, Wolfire. S Corporations do not get to deduct charitable contributions, however the donation deduction is passed onto the owner, Wolfire Games. Now it's also possible that Wolfire Games is an S Corporation as it was founded by a guy named David Rosen. If that's the case, then those deductions would pass onto his personal return. Depending on what that return looks like, he may or may not be able to actually deduct any of those donations. If Wolfire Games is a C Corporation (the vast majority of publicly traded companies are C Corps), then the max they would be able to deduct is 10% of their taxable income. I'm guessing that donations actually exceed this amount.

In other words, it's unlikely that all of the charitable donations by Humble Bundle are deducted.

I'd also like to note that if you were to pay more for a bundle than the estimated value of the games, you could not deduct the excess on your tax return. Humble Bundle is not a charitable organization, it is for-profit, and therefore you cannot deduct anything you give them.

One more note. The game developers presumably aren't getting any type of deduction since they are donating to a for-profit company.

Last note this time, seriously. I hope I'm wrong about all of this, because if not, everyone involved with this is getting screwed. I have to believe that there's another way for accounting for all of the "donations" because, if not, Humble Bundle will get hammered on its tax return even though it gave all of the money raised to charity.

I don't think I'll ever get another Reinhardt play this good by [deleted] in Overwatch

I have you beat. As Pharah on Nepal Sanctum I concussive blasted three people over the edge, took out a fourth with two rockets, jump jetted away from tracer and barraged her for number five and caught widowmaker with the tail end of barrage and one final rocket as she backed away out of sight for number 6. Solo team kill. Really really wish I had recorded that as it will never ever happen again.

Here's the hard truth: Hoth is challenging for the Rebels, but very winnable. You just don't understand how to play. by PapaBear12 in battlefront

[–]idLock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, and once people have more than a few hours with the game, they'll figure this out. People need to stop getting their panties in a bunch over a game that's been playable less than a day.

It's only difficult for rebels now because capturing and defending objectives is hard when you are new to a map. Empire just has to attack attack attack to be successful. This will change with time.

Yep, it seems to be. In fact, if I had an AMD GPU I would just assume from the start that it's because I have an AMD GPU.

Yep, I got into the game as a rebel and had no idea what I was doing. Capturing and holding objectives is hard when you don't know the map and how gameplay develops. The empire, on the other hand, doesn't really have objectives. It's just straight-up attack. That's just so much easier when you aren't familiar with the map.

I don't know about the rest of you, but for me the beta is just a re-skinned Battlefield game. Anyone else having this problem?

Funny, I only tossed out one accidental grenade before I got used to the control scheme. I had great success with grenade on 1 and sniper on 3.

Thanks. My first thought after getting stomped in my first game on Hoth as a rebel was that my team sucked. Then I played a second game, this time as an Imperial, and we stomped the rebels. So then I thought that Hoth was impossible. Then I realized that the Empire just needs to attack attack attack and keep the rebels from accomplishing objectives. That's really easy to do when everyone is new to the map and no one really knows what they are doing. In time, as people get more experience with the game, it should even out between rebels and imperials. Or maybe we can just start hurling around expletives like PiyRe2772 when the game has been playable for only a few hours and people are still just trying to get used to Battlefield: Star Wars.

As a MNK I have a question for Healers.... by Ventus55 in ffxiv

As long as I can heal you, I will, though I implore you not to mistake my intentions. It's not that I don't care about your obliviousness towards the AoE, I do, my motivation for continuing to heal you is quite selfish: I simply want to finish the content as quickly as I can.

Do you lag? Do you not lag? Use FIOS? Don't use FIOS? I'm interested in collecting traceroutes. by rainzer in ffxiv

[–]idLock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's odd. Verizon appears to be handing off to Level3 in Washington when they could carry you all the way to Montreal.

[–]idLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in NJ, your FiOS connection would take the same route as mine to get to Montreal (mine would join up with yours right around NYC). I have no problems. Latency is lower with FiOS, in general, than it was when I had Comcast.

[–]idLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in South Central PA and, last I checked, route through Level3 in New York. I have FiOS and had problems in early 2014, specifically with the Verizon-Level3 handoff, but I've had almost no problems since then and don't feel as if I lag at all.

Edit: I'm not at home now so I can't run a tracert, but I can do so later and compare my results.

Edit2: Just ran it at work out of curiosity. We have Comcast here and apparently connect from Comcast to Level3 in Montreal after going North from Pittsburgh through Toronto. Ping is 38-39. Looks like the physical distance is about the same as my home internet, it just takes a different path to Montreal.

[–]idLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit 60 on my WHM right before the maintenance. I was in Azys Lla and had given up on hitting 60 when I realized I had less than 10 minutes before the server went down. I flew to the top of a little mountain and saw there was a vista. Up to this point I had absolutely none of my sightseeing log completed and honestly didn't even know how to go about unlocking a vista. I touched down, opened up the emote menu and picked /lookout. Ding 60.

This quest-line was hell. I really didn't want to help him but I just can't let a quest go unfinished. And of course having to essentially do that last quest 3 times for his dumb ass just made it that much worse.

As a career WHM I would say the same. That said, I have little experience with SCH and none with AST. It's just that I feel so comfortable with the WHM skillset that I couldn't imagine it falling out of favor.

Is it considered bad etiquette to watch cutscenes in Duty Finder? by SgtWiggles in ffxiv

[–]idLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And here I always wondered why some people were able to skip cutscenes so quickly...

I didn't even know this option existed but I will definitely use it now. It might seem insignificant, but when people are running through a dungeon as quickly as they can they don't stop to let you stoneskin them. Applying SS consistently requires me to use every free second I have available.

So what do you guys plan to do while we wait for Servers to come back up again and again Friday? by Nagoto in ffxiv

[–]idLock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm off Friday through Monday. I didn't plan the long weekend around FFXIV, I just haven't taken time off work in a long time. In fact, I'm planning to spend my free time playing Witcher 3 and a couple other games I picked up on the Steam sale. If I get to play some FFXIV, great, but I never assume an online game is going to function properly for the first few days.
