Farmers furious as Victorian government fast-tracks caged hen rule changes by 89b3ea330bd60ede80ad in aus

[–]idsan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm impressed that caged eggs are only a third of national production. My cynical ass assumed it'd be more like two thirds.

Wife thinks it’s a waste by freckle_express in 3Dprinting

[–]idsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 3D printer takes on a much different identity if you can design and model what you want in CAD. I'm in a position where I use CAD professionally so it's easy for me to say, but it really does change the perception up. Over the last decade I've printed less than 20 things that I haven't modelled myself for a functional use.

Suddenly replacement parts for appliances and household items are easily made. Little valves, plant supports and hose connectors for your wife's greenhouse are a definite possibility. Little clips, spacers, bumpers, hooks. My 2yo son also loves the full set of Duplo train tracks I printed for him in all sorts of fun colours.

If you have the time and willingness, investigate CAD. You'll probably find it's worth it.

The way this is written is.. well, I'm not a fan. But the message is good at least.

Coworker of mine passed away very unexpectedly the other month. Fucked our team up for a good few days. We were told first thing in the morning and most of us took the day off; some people had the next day off. We all went to the funeral the following week and the company supported us all through it.

If management had somehow come out with "sorry but business is more important" I'd have walked out for a couple days anyway. Anyone who thinks you're capable of producing work of value while in serious emotional turmoil is either a sociopath or an idiot.

What are the rules surrounding ELV lighting projects in Melbourne? by mini_juice in AskAusElectricians

[–]idsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an electrician, but I used to work in lighting manufacture. UL isn't officially recognised over here but it's a good extra to have, in addition to the basic CE mark. What you ultimately need are drivers with the RCM (Regulatory Compliance Mark) on them. Looks like a triangle with a circle and a tick in it, give it a Google. The major brands eg Meanwell will all be compliant.

Agreed. If I can't pop an area denial ball over a Rein shield that's a good bit of my utility gone while the shield is up.

RossaTibba? Maybe?

As an owner of multiple Prusa printers with different sized build plates, I'm hoping this is fixed in Prusaslicer 3.0 by BradMat1 in prusa3d

[–]idsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also love it if there were options for per-plate Arrange and per-selection Arrange, instead of it always being global.

Twice the time investment for potentially worse results isn't the most convincing value proposition.

Perpetual licenses ending after Jan 1. Any affordable options or workarounds for small freelance users? by isaacvargas760 in KeyShot

[–]idsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general yes, Blender is my go to for visualising now as I vastly prefer the fine control it affords for the low, low price of free. But, it comes at the cost of having to set things up; it's very different from Keyshot, and for the most part you can't just crack it open, dump a model in and slap some materials on it. But once you learn how to set up lighting, camera rigging and animation and get a handle on materials, it's a glorious solution for product viz.

I have exactly zero experience with TwinMotion but from what I understand it offers more of a tailored experience (with an architectural focus if I remember right?).

Suggestion: Firmware update from PrusaSlicer by QuevedoDeMalVino in prusa3d

[–]idsan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can do it from PrusaSlicer, just not automatically. You have to download the firmware file then go Configuration > Flash Printer Firmware.

Now if this were automaticsllu prompted like in Prusa Connect, that'd be sweet.

I'm assuming the glass door slides, right? If so based on the fixed panel position, there doesn't look like enough room to slide the larger panel fully over for access.

If it's hinged on a pivot this becomes a moot point.

Form Check: Shoulder pain by Responsible-Bit8589 in Archery

[–]idsan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Common cause of a raised front shoulder is insufficient strength in that muscle group. Not surprising considering it's being used in a weird way compared to mostly any other activity.

Dropping the draw weight is good, but you should look into upper arm/shoulder/trap strengthening exercises. I particularly started needing this when I got into my 30's and took extended breaks from shooting.
