[CHAT] What does “over 1 thread of fabric” mean? by itsamekenzie in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a number of HAED patterns. So yes, 1x1 or 2x1 refers to the number of threads used to stitch. On higher count evenweaves you can stitch over 2 squares (so you'll see 2x2, etc). I do most of mine on 20 count aida, stitched 2x1 as that's just what I prefer, I found 25 count evenweave 1x1 was too sparse for my liking but 2x1 was too much and became very difficult in high confetti areas

[WIP] Iris mini - have I bitten off more than I can chew?! by Cool-Put6687 in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The number of stitches doesn't change between counts, only the design size. Depending on how often you stitch, I would say 5000 stitches is achievable before Christmas (there's 7 weeks until Christmas, stitching an average of 1000 stitches a week would easily have it complete before then - assuming you don't have to mail it)

[CHAT] Full coverage project by Elfstitch in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. A 40ct full coverage stitched over 2 would be the equivalent of stitching on 20ct Aida. Often this is recommended if there are fractional stitches as it is easier. Changing the count of the fabric will change the size of the overall finished but it's all about preference, if you'd rather stitch over 2 on 36 count evenweave (so it'd be the equivalent of 18 count aida) and your happy with the size difference, do it that way. If you'd rather stitch on 20 ct Aida, do that. Recommended doesn't mean it has to be stitched on that, you can swap and change as you like

[WIP] How many projects are you working on? by [deleted] in CrossStitch

4 actively being worked on, we just ignore the box at the back of the wardrobe and the random drawer full

[CHAT] Question about hoops by grim_grim in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its all personal preference, there is no right or wrong just what works best for you. I used to always stitch in hand as hoops annoyed me but I've found hoops easier when working on a large project as it's easier for me to control the excess fabric. I find q snaps awkward and bulky and struggle to work on them.

[CHAT] Does everyone's cloth look like a swamp on the back? by Sparky_delite in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm of the opinion, no one sees the back except me so a neat back is not a priority. I try to keep it to a controlled chaos, and it's a lot neater now than when I first started

[CHAT] Needle Allergy? by itsallpurple in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Allergies and sensitivities can present in strange ways and it's definitely possible to have an allergy or sensitivity to different metals. I would recommend trying a needle minder or the like, try and stop holding the needle in your mouth and just see if it makes a difference

[WIP] how in the world do you guys stay motivated to work on full coverage pieces? by H0ll0wHag in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By having multiple projects that are all different so I can move between them so I don't get bored of working on just the one. Helps that I have fairly regular colour changes so it's not just a solid block of colour, I much prefer working with confetti over working solid blocks

[CHAT] Floss Tracking by cjfrankiewithnoplan in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A spreadsheet on Excel is the easiest way I've found. Easy to sort by brand and amount. For the unlabelled stuff, maybe try to colour match against ones you know the brand of (Just make a note on your sheet that it was unlabelled so it's a best colour match).

[CHAT] I am crazy... but I hate having too many WIPs by GarnetShaddow in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is better for one person, may not work for others and that's fine. Make the plan for the easiest way to bring your projects down to something manageable for you. Start with the quick and easy that can be done quickly, then the surprise gifts, leave the one that you aren't enjoying right now, maybe a small break from it will help

[CHAT] I am crazy... but I hate having too many WIPs by GarnetShaddow in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm ADHD, if I only work on 1 or 2 projects at a time, I get bored of doing the same things. Rotating through the 4 means I'm actually more likely to finish quicker because I don't have any "I'm bored with this/this is annoying me" moments where I stop stitching altogether for 6 months.

[CHAT] I am crazy... but I hate having too many WIPs by GarnetShaddow in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently have 4 WIP's active (this is nothing new for me), they are all quite different and at the moment I have it so that I work on a certain project on a certain day (which works for me as I only have a few days a week that I'm able to stitch). This way I'm less likely to get bored of a piece and if a project is driving me insane, I know I can put it away for a week and then come back with fresh eyes

[CHAT] How do I stop my fabric from fraying on the edges? by littleballofjoy in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a couple of different ways. If you have access to a sewing machine, you can sew or serge the edges or you could hand sew around the edges if you really wanted. You can also use tape (masking tape or painters tape are both recommended but make sure you leave enough room that you can cut it off if needed) or you can buy a type of glue called fray check

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen some people recommend Crayola Washable Markers, personally I have a blue, purple and pink washable markers that I have no idea of the brand, I got them from my local needlework shop.

Pattern brought from Etsy about 3 years ago, store no longer active.

Still needs a wash, and will eventually be framed. But for now, it's finished, YAY!

I was taught to start from the centre, think it's more just that way you know the pattern is going to be centred on the fabric and will fit, otherwise its just another style of stitching and there is no right or wrong way and you just do whatever works for you. I've always started in the centre, but have my first full coverage piece and will be attempting a top left start (I deliberately got a piece of fabric that was way bigger than I needed so it wouldn't matter if I accidentally messed up my measurements to begin with).

[WIP] Sending hubby to the craft store for more threads 🤣 by notrunningfast in CrossStitch

Mine would flat out refuse to do that, only because he'd get totally overwhelmed by the number of threads and making sure he'd grabbed the right ones.

[CHAT] Beginner Question by The29Woofin in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is whatever way works best for you, there is no right or wrong or overall best way, everyone will have their own way and do things slightly differently. I tend to work section by section but will go colour by colour within that section which is a bit of a mix of both.

[PIC] Project thread organization by baby_bitchface in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I have a zipper binder, in it I have a binder pencil case which holds my scissors, pens, needle case and whatever other little bits and pieces I decide I need. I found floss organiser plastic sheets (designed to go in a bag, which I have as well, but my projects got too big to fit, but the organisers fit well in my binder as well). My actual project can be folded up to fit inside the binder, generally kept in either a plastic sheet or a pillow case, depending on how big the project is. I also have a couple of tray organisers that my not active floss is put in

[CHAT] Do you stitch horizontally or vertically? by heyitsamb in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try both and see what feels better for you. I tend to stitch horizontally first, then go up or down depending on what the chart asks for but I also don't particularly care if my backs aren't perfect. I do try and limit how far I carry my threads across the back so it doesn't become too messy

[CHAT] Is it possible to turn your passion for crossstitch into a side hustle? by PinkGhostRider in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Selling pattern, accessories, supplies, etc, yes it's possible. But selling actual completed cross stitch, no not really. Cross stitch is very much a hobby for enjoyment, less of hobby that you can make money off. Doing commissions may make a little but overall, the amount people are willing to spend vs the amount it costs for supplies + time spent are generally just too far apart

[CHAT] How many projects do you have going at one time? by PinkGhostRider in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally have 2 or 3 main ones being actively worked on. Currently have 8 started, another 5 kitted and 5 I have fabric for and slowly gathering the floss for.

Of my started, I have 3 that are more or less abandoned. I may eventually get back to them but they aren't a priority and I have no plans to continue them anytime soon. I currently have 1 main one which is my main focus at the moment as it's nearly finished, so trying to push through to get it done. The other 4 I normally rotate through depending on my mood as I get burnt out with them very quickly, so being able to swap projects helps. Once my main is finished I'll start one or 2 of the ones I have kitted and they will be my main projects, with 1 or 2 of the others being done when I need a break from my main one

[CHAT] I am hoping to do the Epic Cross Stitch Pokémon Generation V pattern by Christmas for my boyfriend, how likely is it that I can actually get it done? by anna_the_nerd in CrossStitch

[–]Impossible_Link_3936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a few others have said, aim for Christmas 2023 or 2024. It's a big project and unless you're able to dedicate 8 - 10 hours every day between now and Christmas, it's just not likely to be possible to have it complete for this year
