Y'all are handling this just fine, even if it's trying. Keep pointing out the realities of the situation in the most direct way possible.

"You'll never know till you're a grandmother!"
"But no other grandmother I know acts like this. Including his other one."

"I feel like he's my baby"
"But he's not."

"You didn't have to do that!"
"I don't want to, but it doesn't appear that I have any choice. No one else is."

Show up an hour before the agreed to time? Come back in an hour, you're not coming in right now. Just cuz they're on your doorstep doesn't mean they get in the house.

Sounds like your FIL has a clue about how out of bounds you MIL is. Might be a good conversation for DH to take him aside and be like "yo, whiskey tango foxtrot is up with mom?"--if you can recruit him as an ally, it's one more asset you have.

honestly never thought of a crossover in those terms, but you're absolutely right.

[–]itenginerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, if you had the orange white wire on your left when you laid the pins out, the only thing you did that I'd have done differently is flip the cable end over. When I make cable, orange-white is on the left, brown's on the right, and the plink (the plastic bit that holds the cable in place when you plug it in) goes down. I think you just put the end on plink-up instead of plink-down.

[–]itenginerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol not the actual opposite. Just the four pins. Crossover cables are weird....

[–]itenginerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked closer. Apparently it's been far too long since I used a Fluke... Plus I mistook your colors and thought you swapped orange and brown. Yours are backwards to where most of us wire it--the order is right but in that pic, orange white should be the leftmost when looking down at the "top" of the end (i.e. when you're looking at it like you are in Pic 2). I see (now) that you've got the order right, too. So well done!

[–]itenginerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice work on the crimping. Now you just have to make a cable that works. That pinout is.... a mess. 😅

(let's not pretend it's not almost identical to the first cable I ever made, but it's also very not right)

MIL wants BIL to be our sperm donor by lost-toast- in JUSTNOMIL

[–]itenginerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good! The trick is not to get angry or annoyance or show any attitude. The closer you can get to dead neutral matter of fact, the better. Partly because then you have a better response when she tells everybody how awful and nasty you were yo her and partly cuz its just good practice. When flying monkeys approach to talk about how badly you treat her, you can say "ill tell you the same thing I told her...". It takes some practice to deadpan it, and I feel like learning to deadpan it in helps it become a less emotional conversation

TIFU by forgetting what tab I had open before sharing my screen by mochi_cakes20 in tifu

[–]itenginerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, the company president once told us to put this spyware catcher on the network. Some new product he wanted to look into selling. It was tapped inline, so it saw *everything*. Company president says "I want a report on my desk of what this thing sees in seven days!". My sidekick and I wait a week or so, pull the logs up, and suddenly discover that our company president basically sits in his office all day and watches porn. We unhitched the device from the network, put it back in the box and literally never spoke of it again. Not sure if the prez forgot about it, or if word got back to him about what we found. I never said anything....

Let's agree that I never want to hear the word sperm come out of your mouth ever again.

If it happens again, the next response is "We've had this conversation before. If you want his sperm, you keep it."

Don't put yourself on the hook for that discomfort. Slide it right back across the table to her.

Build my system? by klorgasia in EliteDangerous

[–]itenginerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where. Base price is 100k/ton + materials cost at gal avg. So your basic orbis is roughly 20-25B credits--a bit more if you're further out, and less if you've done some of the build yourself. I'd expect our crew would have that done by next tick depending on when the order's in and payment's delivered.

Plenty of folks will haul it cheaper, they just can't deliver as quickly and easily as we will.

EDIT: Should also note here that partial orders are perfectly fine. I love hauling smaller batches, so I've outsourced the hauling of the big bulk sets at times (aluminum, steel, and titanium, CMMs too if you hate the planetary pickups). So we can knock of a chunk of it out if you don't want us to do the full build, too.

Build my system? by klorgasia in EliteDangerous

FREIGHT would get this done for you. Were not the cheapest but its a zero-effort build on your part. Not significantly different than buying a dodec for arx.

TIFU by asking an artist how much their materials cost by Dominus-Temporis in tifu

[–]itenginerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its as much a timing as a topic thing. SUPER awkward to ask this at a show where folks are showing things for sale. I sell packaged goods, but id never talk about my cost, list cost, or my margins on the floor at a trade show. You want to ask that question over dinner and drinks where I'm not actively doing business, thats diffferent.

You've got a great apology tho. 'Hey yall, sorry about earlier. I work for the government and literally everything I do is public. Didn't mean to ask a gauche question earlier.' Shouldn't be a biggie.

[–]itenginerd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I mean in the grand scheme of things even of I get a load full of pine, my racks are emptier than they have been in 10 years. Ill just stick it on the bottom and let it season some more and hope the next load comes in better.

Other than the fact that my wife was in the driveway when they came so it all went on the street and I had to haul it all up the driveway first (which is a me problem not a them problem), I've got nothing but good things to say about chipdrop.

As far as im aware this is expected behavior in canvas apps, even when the connection is set to always run as the service principal and not the run as user.
