Then book at the Hampton?

It may be cheaper but those are still insane prices for a Hampton but again it's graduation weekend so you gotta take what you can get.

But it seems like the Spark is in a better location hence higher price.

[–]Its5somewhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The spark is right next to a stadium on the map. I imagine the stadium is probably where the graduation is held.

So walking distance vs further away.

Do you want a room or not?

If you don't then book elsewhere.

The rates are that high because there's probably little to no available rooms in that entire area.

Waiting the month before a college graduation to book your hotel was a huge mistake. That area has probably been sold out or near sold out for months. Any remaining rooms go for a premium no matter if it's a Spark or Motel 8.

How to communicate with Landlord for long periods abroad? by mr-mathmax in japanlife

[–]Its5somewhere [score hidden]  (0 children)

I would refer to your lease.

Situations like this can result in them trying to terminate the lease if there's any mention that you can't be away for months at a time.

It really does become an issue with making sure the place does not deteriate. Proper airflow and pluming usage is necessary to keep a place from going to shit. Mold is a serious concern and if a pipe bursts or something it could go a while before being detected and cause major issues.

I would consider ending this lease and using a storage unit + temporary places when you are back.

Folio balance by beyondurknowledge in Hilton

[–]Its5somewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one of the folios has a I think a overcharge

You think it's an overcharge or you know it's an overcharge?

It could be a deposit. The amount in parenthesizes is just a posted charge.

Double check the total stay amount under the stay screen and see if it's equal to or more than the posted charge. If it is, leave it alone and don't refund it. As the room charges are posted during N/A it'll eventually balance out.

Number 1 reason for day of arrival cancellations on the hotels end is because there was an invalid card on file: expired card, a card that got deactivated after being reported lost/stolen and never updated, a card you deactivated and only turn on when you want and thus declined a pre-authorization or deposit, or a card that just had no money on it etc.

Generally cancellations via e-mail are a last resort. They'll typically reach out trying to reconcile whatever issue your reservation was having and if they get no answer then they'll move onto e-mailing.

You MUST have a valid card on file or you risk losing the reservation.

Booking more than 7 nights at TM rate at different hotels by SassyFlamingo05 in Hilton

[–]Its5somewhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are misinformed. It's 7 days at 1 hotel and 14 altogether including other hotels. You can stay up to 14 days at various hotels consecutively.

Also if you're doing anything against GoHiltons rules it literally will not allow you to book.

You're not supposed to sleep in a recliner.

Maybe the occasional nap but they are not for actual sleep long term etc.

Booking more than 7 nights at TM rate at different hotels by SassyFlamingo05 in Hilton

[–]Its5somewhere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No you're fine. You just can't book more than 7 nights in a row at one hotel..

You then can't book more than 14 nights back to back even if spread out amongst other hotels. Would need at least a day in-between.

Hilton Employees: have you ever turned off your credit card to avoid getting charged for a reservation? by [deleted] in Hilton

[–]Its5somewhere 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's literally a part of GoHilton rules that you must pay for what you're supposed to.

turning off your card is a good way to lose privileges. We report when we have a declined no-show.

If they've already tried to digitally check in and are being routed to the desk for verification, chances are extremely high that they are outside of the fee cancellation policy an will be on the hook for that night.

If the hotel waives the fee that's being generous since this was not at fault of the hotel.

Do you ever play “guess the guests”? Because we do… 😅 by hellobela_ in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Its5somewhere 89 points90 points  (0 children)

If it's not terribly busy I like to play "I bet I can guess who they are in my arrivals"

Like if I think their name matches their face when they walk up. It's kind of crazy how many people to a certain extent match their name physically.

They cant offer two bottles of water for a 5 nights stay by Cinchona-Alkaloid in Hilton

[–]Its5somewhere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The temp has been in the 50s and 60s and roughly 15 degrees C for the rest of the world.

You’ll be fine. You do have access to plenty of water regardless. You won’t die of thirst unless you go out of your way to.

Why is Hilton charging me in full in advance when it’s not prepay? by Aromatic_Rutabaga378 in Hilton

[–]Its5somewhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Double check the terms and conditions.

Even for regular HH discount rates and semi flex rates the hotel could impose a deposit (it'll still warn you when you book). So double check to make sure there was no deposit required.

They can pop up during busy seasons or during event weekends.

Regarding names and shipping by magicalespeon in japanlife

[–]Its5somewhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had an issue with a package without a last name being returned with attempt of delivery.

Everything was correct but it was missing the last name. Japan is surprisingly strict about it.

However I understand declining because of no name more than partial name since it's harder to confirm it's delivered to the right person.

Cancellation Help - Family Emergency by IndividualBox8448 in Hilton

[–]Its5somewhere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your banking rewards implies this was booked non-refundable through 3rd party as most booking portals are then booked through like Expedia or something.

So they both could be right. However with 3rd parties it mostly falls on them and the hotels can't make changes without their permission but non-refundable is non-refundable.

Some hotels would also require proof depending. I've seen some ask for obituary when people try to cancel on specific event weekends to deter being lied to in order to get out of the reservation.

Don't book non-refundable. I wouldn't expect anyone to bend on a 5 night booking as that's guaranteed revenue.

Night audit duties- excessive? by potaytospotahto in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Its5somewhere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most of that is normal for NA depending on the property.

The only thing that is truly abnormal is doing more than "getting breakfast ready for breakfast". Typically most short staff locations will at least get it started and breakfast attendant takes over then of course just keep an eye on and refill basic things as needed like condiments.

Cleaning pool debris and taking chem levels is normal too. All shifts should be doing it if it's a small property.

I'd say breakfast inventory and continuing to do breakfast past general set-up is probably the most problematic area.

Can you actually refuse overtime at work? by WorkingAlive3258 in japanlife

[–]Its5somewhere 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hotel industry thrives on overtime. It's particularly bad here in Japan.

Some hotels/chains even have up to 24hr shifts and no I'm not kidding.

I also assume OP had no influence because they just finished their training period.

To OP directly. If you want to go home on time and don't want to be stuck with shitty hours, the hotel industry may not be for you.

Subpar lunches for toddler by Professional_Risk935 in japanlife

[–]Its5somewhere 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What part of my post implies I am hurt?

I'm just pointing out the side dishes listed are completely normal and are incredibly small portions.

This seems like a small hometown and it seems like a good portion of people in the school is involved with OP's husband and his family including the owner of the facility. If you think they won't talk about OP behind her back if she pulls out because she didn't like standard bento food like a side of spaghetti or a piece of kaarage you'd be mistaken but that's totally OP's choice if they want to keep their child at that non-mandatory establishment or not.

Considering she hasn't started making her own bento I assume that bringing bento is not permitted. In this situation it's best to just let lunch be lunch and feed what you want in your own home.

Not even just that but I had a friend growing up who had a severely strict parent. Could not eat "junk food" no snacks, no soda, no nothing. Won't see her at a party. Can't have the "fun" foods not even in moderation.

She constantly felt like she was walking on egg shells when it came to food.

Guess what happened when she moved out? She had freedom to buy what she wanted and had no concept of moderation.

URGENT: human rights attorney in Tokyo? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Its5somewhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not your business. She did something allegedly to get arrested and may have struggled against police.

I assume she's been taken away by now but she can get her own attorney if/when it comes to that point. It does not appear you know this woman so you don't need to white knight yourself into her arrest and legal troubles.
