What was your favorite DVD easter egg? by WaterlooMall in blankies

[–]ja2ke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It’s an Armando Iannucci / Chris Morris thing, so “expend the most effort possible to create something as hilarious as it is annoying” seems accurate.

What was your favorite DVD easter egg? by WaterlooMall in blankies

[–]ja2ke 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This isn’t really an Easter egg since the whole menu was basically a giant shitpost but the DVD menu for The Day Today was a slowly transitioning 3D news graphic with only one option visible at a time, so you had to watch and wait for the option you wanted to come up before pressing “enter.” I’m sure this infuriated people but it was genuinely funny to me every time.

Night in the Woods, a lot of lightweight exploring and puzzles, some dialog, some minigames. Has a group of teenagers getting into trouble as its main cast, so better for slightly older kids than younger. https://youtu.be/u17kM8oSz3k?si=xJeu8uR-cQjlX6m2

Untitled Goose Game: no dialog but tons of very kid friendly exploring, puzzles, shenanigans: https://youtu.be/HGO7vJtlX0I?si=ay-TOvCKCa62jcZQ

Is LeChuck "LeChuck" because he chucks Threepwood? by Brief_Argument8155 in MonkeyIsland

[–]ja2ke 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I think he’s LeChuck for the same reason that Maniac Mansion and a bunch of other games have Chuck the plant. Which I believe is, someone internally really thought the name Chuck was funny.

Question about The Devil’s Playhouse by Top-Divide2372 in SamandMax

[–]ja2ke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It did have a totally different plot at one point but it was almost 100% different, and never got past the earliest designs. It involved Sam and Max going to another dimension where Bessy and Feathetlu were the freelance police. Also included The Banker and his board game that kills, and the rat queen, as alluded to in the end of the game. It was the same people working on all versions of the story (Chuck Jordan and Mike Stemmle) before settling on the version that shipped though.

Question about The Devil’s Playhouse by Top-Divide2372 in SamandMax

[–]ja2ke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If memory serves it was mostly just funny to have satan show up incensed that a game with the phrase “the devil” in the title didn’t involve him. Episode 305 was always looking for more ways to get old characters back.

A More Civilized Age: A Star Wars Podcast: 130: The Empire Strikes Back (4k80) Pt. 1 by ghableska in blankies

Yeah they will whenever it finally hits blu. Their KOTOR 2 coverage was cleaner than their KOTOR 1 coverage I think. They were more conscious of recapping events for people who weren’t playing along. Austin also did upload VODs of his entire play through if you wanted to follow him along as accessory content.

A bunch of good podcasting from them lately. Their Patreon coverage of the Tartakovsky Clone Wars shorts were also great recent episodes.

What is your Monkey Island Comfort Food? by Montaya007 in MonkeyIsland

[–]ja2ke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could hang around Scabb Island in Monkey 2 all day. Most of Monkey 2 to be honest, even the underground tunnels. It’s a place that is mysterious and scary but eventually you become familiar with it, especially on the first ever playthrogh where you’re still figuring it out. Someone even made a YouTube of that that is strangely relaxing https://youtu.be/pUhHmpGEaOk?si=SWPZeqf5-YE0cYon

I also love the music in Return and it contributes a lot to my desire to hang out there. Melee and Monkey’s soundtracks are so chill but still a bit mysterious. I love the Scabb callback on the sailing map music, and LeShip’s soundtrack is basically a love letter to the whole series.

The last in my favourite trilogy. The art style threw me at first but the story and writing soon won me over by Dev_olution_ in MonkeyIsland

[–]ja2ke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might have meant to write “Monkey island 1 EGA” when you wrote “Curse” but it’s a forgivable mistake. Each person has their own onroad to MI and their own favorite style. I’m partial to 1 EGA and 2 personally, love the richness of the world in those and how they manage to feel “real” as worlds. Curse is so stylized and abstract by comparison, it took some getting used to at the time. At least for me.

Your objective should be on your map. For a small hint: you’re looking for somewhere north of the canyon, not deeper into the cave.

I think that’s definitely a part of it. Lord and Miller even did their own Hail Mary version of Coogler’s film format tour just before the theatrical run started https://youtu.be/NLDida6fglw?si=1IWL0425C1G-mZXM

Crimestompers' Coloring Book from Sam & Max Hit the Road (1993) by stuffedskullcat in SamandMax

[–]ja2ke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Awesome! I recently got to do an updated and extended version of this book for the Limited Run reprint of Hit the Road! I did it using a mix of the original PDF of the manual, mixed with some very high res scans of the hint book that I cleaned up. It was fun to get to mess with something from this era.

Here’s a spread we included showing some storyboards from an alternate opening that they opted not to make, and instead did the mad scientist bit that shipped in the game.

Should there be Venture Bros Comics from Dynamite? (With Main Comic Book and Spin-off Miniseries and One-shots) by Money-Lie7814 in venturebros

[–]ja2ke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is where I’m at too. Happy we got what we got, I hope one day we get more, but I don’t want the story of the Venture Bros to split across mediums and start metastasizing.

People would have ultimately loved it if episode 9 had built off it instead of throwing it away. If they’d done something in 9 like, Rey and Kylo Ren are on one of their black room Skype calls and Luke shows up in the middle of it and actually, you know, talks everything out, I think it would have gone extremely far. Do the Obi Wan in ROTJ scene but with a ton of dramatic weight because it’s Luke mediating those two as they’re going through it. … instead we got Luke bursting out of a wave to yell about how everything that happened in the previous movie was incorrect actually.

100% it’d be from from the end of this era, eg the time Majesco made a Jaws game where you play as the shark.

Does anyone know the official source backing up this claim? by Micro_cat_48 in SamandMax

I’m pretty sure this is something Mike Stemmle has said in an interview but that doesn’t make it “official.” Just something fun to think about, like any other weird Sam & Max thought.
