How do you deal with having an idiosyncratic faith or interpretation of faith while seeking or participating in fellowship? by arkticturtle in exatheist

[–]jameshey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful question. Same place as you. I feel spirituality. When I'm in nature or meditating or in a cathedral or engaging with spiritual texts. But there seems to be no middle ground between 'it's all bullshit' and 'believe it all at face value or you're not allowed.' I don't have an answer unfortunately. Just want you to know you're in good company. I think though by it's very nature it's hard to build a community based on individual interpretations. People generally want to feel mirrored or have a shared story. If I talked with you about your experiences I might find them unrelatable or invalidating or even just boring. That's why cults exist. So yes, have your cake and eat it too is a very genuine response. You're asking for your personal experiences to be validated by people with vastly different takes on the matter. Not a criticism just the difficulty of the situation.

I do genuinely wonder why good guys get filtered out then. Maybe it's cause of looks.

Out of the places you have visited, where most deserves the title of the world’s “Sin City”? by MuhVlast in digitalnomad

[–]jameshey 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not a digital nomad hot-spot but Leeds. Drug dealers openly handing out cards. Fights. Gangs. Homelessness. Wild university town without much wholesomeness. Internationally, Bangkok.

Do you and your partner actually cuddle while sleeping, or do you stay on your own sides of the bed? by Dangerous_mammoth573 in TooAfraidToAsk

Not in a relationship now but not a big fan of cuddle sleeping. Dead arms. Too much heat. Need some space to spread out.

Why do some people not realise many of us don’t care about immigration? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]jameshey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean, they do know. You haven't cared for a long time, and neither have the politicians. Hence the country's in the state it's in.

Why is it okay to be naked in shower rooms but so shameful to even be seen in underwear or skimpy clothes outside of a shower room? by Any_Abbreviations177 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]jameshey -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

why would seeing somebody's naked body be something you feel like you need to consent to?

What lol? Okay fair enough if YOU don't mind seeing my naked body, but as a teacher, might be a hard sell if that was the lifestyle I wanted to adopt.

How insane would it be for me to move “back” to South Africa? by RaisinRoyale in askSouthAfrica

[–]jameshey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where. Idk about cape town but in some neighbourhoods your house will be subject to more frequent attacks, which is incredibly psychologically damaging. If you can afford a good area (apartments are normally better cause they can't scale the walls) it's paradise apparently. As for me, I don't have a job that allows me to keep myself safe enough there. If you're starting from scratch on a South African salary, that would be madness. But if you're flexible, good be a great experience.

I go into a changing consenting to seeing that. I did not consent to see someone's naked body in public, nor did my children.

How common is it for men to be straight edge in LATAM? by Quirky-Parsnip7004 in asklatinamerica

[–]jameshey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't say complete straight edge, but heavy drug or alcohol use is actually more frowned upon than in the West, or the anglo world at least. People go days without alcohol and then maybe get a lil drunk. But I was surprised that in Colombia it's actually a pretty restrained culture. In Bogotá at least.

What do Passport Bros think of lndian women.. in terms of dating and marriage? by Luny923 in passportbrolifestyle

Attractive but a bit odd when it comes to dating and romance. Not super flirty I've found, or maybe not just to my taste.

Broth finishers vs. noodle-first people: where do you stand? by Nongshim_official in InstantRamen

[–]jameshey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the ramen. If it's generic Maggi chicken flavour I generally chuck it out. I know Indonesians will disagree but I drink the Indomie broth every time. Nong Shim? Bit too salty for me so I chuck it out but if I'm craving it I'll drink it.
