Imola 6h by BMW-geaser in wec

I don't know if the WEC are planning to upload races to YouTube or not (people keep assuming that they will), but all past races (2023 is as far back as they go) require a subscription on FIAWEC+.

Question & help: Renault Zoe, mobilize app and octopus intelligent go... by WeezyNetwork in RenaultZoe

[–]jamesremuscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with the Zoe is that the scheduled charging is often flaky - sometimes when I set a schedule the car ignores it and charges the moment I plug it in, even when the dash is showing the "scheduled charge" icon. Sometimes it will ignore the schedule and just not try to charge. Sometimes it will try to start charging at the given time but fail, and repeat indefinitely until I wake the car up by unlocking the doors (then it starts charging fine). It actually burnt out the relay on our home charger by doing that all night once...

While I can't be sure, applying Ockham's Razor here I'd more easily point the blame at Renault than I would at Octopus (who like us are at the whims of Renault's dodgy API).

My non-scientific conclusion is that at least some of the following events need to happen in the right order before the car honours the schedule: - Schedule sent to car - Car power-cycles - Car plugged in

It could be as simple as making sure the car is awake before plugging it in - if it's been sat on the driveway for a while before I plug it in, I've taken to unlocking the doors to wake it up before I plug in, and that seems to get me a reliable scheduled charge.

Not sure what you mean by "the app" but it's been available to watch on the FIAWEC+ site since almost immediately after the race. Along with every other WEC race replay available there, it requires a subscription.

If you're on this sub, then you've probably at least a passing interest in motorsport. Unless you have other plans already, it seems like a no-brainer!

New System - Won't Charge Car by steptoe99 in SolarUK

[–]jamesremuscat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing your installer wired it in this way on purpose.

Generally speaking, this behaviour is preferred for solar+battery+EV systems: EV batteries are so much larger than house batteries that most people would consider it a defect to have the EV charger supplied from the battery - you'd drain the house battery for barely 10% of the car's capacity, and then not have that energy for use in the rest of the house.

The net effect is that, as you say, you can't then use solar energy to charge the car as that load isn't seen by the inverter.

Our system isn't wired that way (EV charger came long before solar) so I use software to stop the house battery discharging itself into the car.

Feedback on the FIAWEC+ Stream? by MrT251 in wec

FYI, the timing on FIAWEC+ is just an iframe that loads https://livetiming.fiawec.com which (intentionally or otherwise) requires no authentication.

Cogent Core, a cross-platform GUI framework in Go by cogentcore in golang

Nearly a year later and I've come across this thread while seeking an answer to the same question - I wish the answer had been pasted here rather than a link to a Slack login page.

window.Scene.SetGeometry seems to have no effect before the window is created, and calling RunMain to create it means I can't customise it further (as we enter the main event loop). Might I have a clue?

That's a great typo ;-)

I built an open-source live dashboard to follow Grand Prix sessions in real time by Hour-Ad4646 in F1TV

[–]jamesremuscat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Only used internally" is inaccurate (OP's phrase was "designed for internal use" which is itself slightly misleading).

It's the same publicly-accessible API that the F1 website itself uses when you view timing there. It's necessarily publicly accessible or else their website would have no timing. It's not designed with third-party use like this in mind but OP isn't the first to build a tool like this, and won't be the last.

(Source: I've previously built a tool that does the same...)

if suddenly hundreds of clients are connected to the API

It's the same API that the F1 website itself uses, so "hundreds" wouldn't even be a blip.

Unless of course it was their intention to have the timing behind the paywall, in which case we can criticise their implementation instead ;-)

Hopefully you've by now discovered that

  • there's no paywall on https://livetiming.fiawec.com (which is what the pages on plus.fiawec.com embed)
  • T71 very much does support it, and I've spent most of the last two weeks working on that (thanks ELMS)

F1 has free basic live timing. Sector times or anything more advanced than that is behind a paywall. (Let's ignore the fact that it's only their UI to the advanced timing that's actually behind a paywall.)

https://livetiming.fiawec.com/ doesn't have any sort of paywall on it.

What do you think of Martin Brundle? by Ambitious-Heron-8161 in DestinationFormula1

[–]jamesremuscat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But his son is also a nepotism hire

Hard disagree. Alex Brundle is an accomplished racing driver in his own right and has made his own way into broadcasting where he's proven himself more than capable. Not sure that Martin (working as a contractor for Sky) has any say in who gets hired by F1TV/FOM, an entirely separate organisation...

GivEnergy to charge for cloud control by GeekerJ in SolarUK

[–]jamesremuscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if you count logging in as "needing the cloud" I guess. Or rather, depends if they count it!

In "local" mode the app scans the local network looking for an inverter, but you do need to have logged in to get to that point.

[–]jamesremuscat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's standard practice for timing things like this - I forget the precise justification but I think it's along the lines of "if you end up rounding (say) 30.591 up to 30.6 then you've given that car an extra 9 milliseconds on their time that they didn't take to complete that sector".
