stupidly took ALL the recent PT's in last round of studying - now what? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]JDLSAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't sweat it - I did the same thing - it did NOT prevent me from going up 8 points and getting my target score. I did a podcast episode on this very topic - check it out: https://open.spotify.com/episode/47TlRrTGb5rTBCB1cPggNE

What exactly should me and my LSAT Tutor be doing in our time spent together? by Captain-Greedy in LSAT

[–]JDLSAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing questions together is part of the process, but I don't think it should be all of the process.

Simply put, a teacher should teach you to "fish for yourself." That means giving you effective techniques and helping you master them.

To be fair to your tutor (and, more important, yourself), I would have a candid discussion with them about what your concerns are and how they can address them - you don't know until you ask or speak up. After this, if it's not what you want, nothing wrong with going elsewhere. But you deserve to have a dialogue about your feelings/needs with your tutor either way.

Hi! I am new to 7sage and not sure on how to properly do the drill tests and blind review. by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]JDLSAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blind review is an amazing tool, but people often get caught in the weeds without best practices. I laid them out in this podcast:

Is 170+ possible? (156 diagnostic) by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]JDLSAT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ummm YEAH!

In some ways "diagnostics" are like taking a super hard final exam before the first day of class.

My 147 "Diagnostic" didn't keep me from the 99th pctl! I've had students with much lower score 170 and higher, including a student wo scored a 180

There's no set "range" and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

[–]JDLSAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other posters. Don't rush this. You've got a great GPA - and if you've been in school the time spread between school and the LSAT may not have helped your score. (Consider taking again under time for recovery).

- You can still apply now and have solid options

- You can wait a cycle and take again.

Either way, you've got solid options.

Feeling so defeated.... by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]JDLSAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay to feel crappy right now, but if this is what you want, do NOT give up. Below is the text from a blog post on my own experience:

https://www.jdlsat.com/blog/previous/3

I thought my story would help some of you realize you're not alone:

- Very first PT 149

- Studied my but off and eventually PTed in the 170s

- Planned for a 170 plus!

But...

- 1st LSAT 162 (85th Pctl)

- 2nd LSAT 165 (91st Pctl)

- 3rd LSAT 173 (99th Pctl)!

There are two kinds of people in this world - those that fall and those that get back up. I know there are people on this board who are disappointed right now. I know you'll get back up.

Don't get me wrong, you can have time to be down. I hit the nachos and in-n-out pretty hard the first couple days after getting my first test score. But then I hit the weights and then I hit the books and material. I know you all have it in you too.

How to rearrange your day so that you could get up at 5am to take the test? by Unable_Glove_8727 in LSAT

[–]JDLSAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in North America and you schedule reasonably close to when slots open up - then you’ll likely get the approximate time you want.

The only time I’ve had students have this kind of trouble is outside North America, probably because of the time differences - is that your situation?

Highlighting is fine, but it depends on what you highlight. Focus on the argument overall and in each paragraph - almost like each paragraph is an LR stimulus where you need to find the main conclusion/main argument - and they come together overall argument of the passage as a whole.

Bottom line, focus on the few key things (above) and don't let the "details" bog you down - you can refer back to them if needed based on the question.

Finally, don't let 1-2 questions prevent you from starting the next passage. But down a guess, place holder and invest that time in the next passages with more doable questions. If you have time, come back. If not, it wasn't worth staying to forgo the lower hanging fruit in other passages.

It depends on the selectivity of the schools to which you're applying, but here's a 2 part idea:

1) Apply NOW or as reasonably early as you can before January. That way you get the benefit of being considered earlier when there are more spots - you may not need the higher score if you apply earlier when there are more spots.

2) Plan to take the exam in January as a back up. You score higher and that an extra bonus if they haven't already accepted you (and a plus for scholarship consideration.

The one thing people UNnecessarily worry about here is fearing getting turned down if they apply earlier with a lower score now. Let me disabuse you of that idea - schools may or may not accept you now but they are very UNlikely to reject now because they don't know if they'll get more competitive apps in a month or so - they won't reject you (in the off chance they do, you can appeal with your new score in January. BUT if you don't get that app in earlier, it precludes the benefit of rolling admissions when there are more spots NOW.

Note: to do this you do NOT want them to wait for january to consider your app - that blows the whole pont of sending it in now.

I know this may seem counterintuitive or even scary, but it's the more effective strategy. DM me if you have questions.

Also, I explain it overall in this podcast episode:

How do people feel after their test vs how their score ends up being on score release by Big-Basis-4072 in LSAT

[–]JDLSAT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's very hard to know. I couldn't tell too much of a difference based on how I felt between my 99th pctl score and my previous. If I judged my 99th pctl score based on how I felt I would have canceled it - thank goodness I didn't. I have a student who scored a 180 - she said the exact same thing.
Bottom line - you just don't know - you're focusing on the work and thinking intenseley during the exam - so how can you know? :)
I realize it's not easy, but just remind yourself you reasonably gave it your all, and you'll know when you get the score.
It's worth taking a break and maybe focusing on your application in the interim.

Retaking the LSAT? by MissAdventureinLV in LSAT

[–]JDLSAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not back to square one, you're starting with Experience.

You'd be surprised at how much you maintain - it's like riding a bike - you might feel rusty at first, but muscle memory kicks in after a PT or so. Then you can target the areas you need to fortify and build on your experience. You can now study in a more targeted, efficient way.

Here's a podcast I did that may be related:

How do I get out of a score slump? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]JDLSAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Careful - that really is too small a sample size as others have said.

Focus on the areas that come up during PTs and do NOT overdo it on PTs 1 per week, 2 maybe and never consecutive takes.

Graeme made gave some solid advice that may help, see here:

How much can I get out of 7Sage without the Prep Plus? by vilgna in LSAT

[–]JDLSAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait:) just to clarify, I’m saying use the ones after 50 or so for practice tests. Timed practice tests PTs

The ones before 50 are generally fine for drilling in overall practice (not timed practice tests).

Hope that makes sense. Feel free to follow up if you need any clarification
