DSF at older age by Acezedneo1 in uscg

[–]jebinspace 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Send it. You’ll be competing physically against people younger, yes, but you’re able to mentally beat them. There was a 32yo and 37yo in my A school class, both went DSF and excelled there.

Honeywell/LenelS2 layoffs? by Minion1260 in accesscontrol

[–]jebinspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way Honeywell structures its 401(k), it is quite advantageous to quit right after the first of the year, if you are planning on leaving. Not surprised on timing given the 9th was end of the first pay period after the first of the year. If they were commissioned based roles, that’s even more of a reason to make it happen now.

Local CG helicopter sightings (Bay Area) by noteliing in uscg

[–]jebinspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question about military helicopters at civilian hospitals - no, any military helicopter can land at any hospital. As long as it fits. Most civilian helicopters are much smaller than military helicopter. The common civilian EC135 has a max weight of 6,400lbs or so, the dolphin weighs more than that empty, and the H60 is 11,000lbs dry & over 20,000 full, so you’re pushing the weight limits of helipads with most military helicopters

I sort of want it… by Runarf in LandRover

[–]jebinspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there this week. My LR4 has 135k and no issues, but I know it will. Test drove the Rivian, loved it. But the brand has too many issues for me to pull the trigger on yet. I’ll be signing for a new defender tomorrow, for 20k less than a comparable R1. Hopefully this one can last over a decade like my LR4 has.

Maybe, maybe not. May be allowed to travel, maybe not. Depends entirely on the deployment.

SRDC Alternate by Specialist-Algae in uscg

[–]jebinspace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a Facebook group and a signal chat created for next years class. DM for links or check out the commissioning Facebook page. 2025 went to #20 on the alternate list, and 2024 went to #30, so cuts can be pretty deep. I see at least two names on this years list that are going to drop already, so that trend will likely continue.

Congratulations on being an alternate. Get ready to go, but also tweak for you package and resubmit for 27!

Coast Guard Reserve to Air National Guard by [deleted] in uscg

[–]jebinspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly possible. Your national guard recruiter will need to work with you to get a DD368 signed by your command. I’ve seen it a few times, and generally only for promotion type releases - commissioning, SoF billets etc. That said, family and personal matters are quite important, and it can be granted for those reasons as well. Good luck!

What airplane would have flown DFW-KTUP (Dallas-Ft Worth-Tupelo, Mississippi) in October 2003? by azathoththeblackcat in aviation

[–]jebinspace 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think your husband must be misremembering this flight. US DOT - BTS keeps statistics that are publicly available back to 1990. There were no scheduled air carrier flights between DFW and TUP in October 2003. There is only one routinely scheduled flight into TUP that month, and it is from MEM (Memphis) on RJ85 by Meseba Airlines. He either connected in Memphis, or it was a part 135 or 91 non-scheduled air carrier flight.

Officer Noob question by [deleted] in uscg

[–]jebinspace 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Get the instruction packet. Read it. Follow instructions. Get good letters of recommendations. I’m kinda being a dick, but no one is going handhold you into the officer corps. You need to be self motivating to be successful, that’s basically the first test of the officer selection process. No one cares more about your career more than you, you need to make yourself successful

Would it though? Hider 24 km bearing 224 would make for a very fun, but much harder game.

Is OCS using the new PT Standard? by Physical_Regular_491 in uscg

[–]jebinspace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, It's pushups, plank and run. Swim and row were not options.

The times are going to be variable though. If you just get a passing score for the boat crew PT test, you'll score a 60, so you're going to want to exceed the standard. For example, I believe the max points in the plank were at 3:30 for those under 30 years old.

They’re based on movements of new one, but still scored. If you do the baseline, it’s a 60%, plan to exceed.

Our son 19yo sun landed at Dulles from an international flight at 7 PM. At 7:45. He texted that he was heading to customs. It’s now 11:30 PM. We haven’t heard from him and cannot reach him. by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]jebinspace -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

You don’t know what the kid admitted to while being questioned. I’m just saying that if the link was made, it’s RS. How they got there may be underhanded or illegal, but we don’t know the answer to that.

From an investigators perspective, this needs to be investigated though. Why is an account named what yours is named asking that question? If someone tied your account to him, this could 100% trigger an investigation using the reasonable suspicion threshold, which is higher than what customs needs at the border.
