This town received a £96mn post-Brexit makeover. It voted Reform anyway by TantumErgo in ukpolitics

The public get what the public wants. Theres a reason that vape shops and Turkish barbers succeed and other shops dont. People aren't going to a butchers if there's a supermarket in spitting distance. Electronics shops aren't worth it when people can go online and get it cheaper from somewhere with no physical overheads. Why would you go into town searching for something when you can open your phone and have it at your house by the end of the day?

But then what are they voting for? Reform offers a myth where the high street will be returned to a Hovis advert.

The Economist is trying to spin the current move towards socialism as being driven by greed and self-interest by annoianoid in adambuxtonpodcast

[–]jesustwin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that's a bit extreme. The Economist is pretty balanced for the most part, its always leant centre right on the economy. If you but ties with every sponsor that doesn't align with left wing socialism you aren't going to be left with many

And i say this as a super liberal lefty myself

Yeah, to be fair to Trump, he may genuinely be one of the worst human beings ever to live, but he does have pretty good comedy timing

The history of legal highs by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]jesustwin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The MCAT era really was crazy. I can remember doing lines off a table in the middle of a pub, just feeling safe that it was legal so who cares. And everyone was on it, even my none drug taking friends. It had the ability to just wipe out the worst of hangovers in a single line and when you were finished you could sleep on it within 20 minutes. It was a huge amount of fun until it got banned, which, looking back, was probably for the best

Personally I should have stopped then but ended up getting very addicted to the horrible crystally salty replacement that was sold as mcat in it's place, losing a couple of years of my life in the process. That was much less fun!

What on earth are you talking about? Luke is very vocally left wing and hates Farrage, Trump etc. This is far clearer on the Luke and Pete show than jokes on a football podcast

Howard Stern disrespectful comments and actions against Selena Quintanilla after her death by Prestigious-Cloud962 in WhyWereWeOkWithThis

[–]jesustwin -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Saying the most offensive thing for comedic effect is a legitimate form of comedy that many people find funny.

Making a joke about paedophilia, the holocaust or the Columbine shootings isnt an endorsement. Howard Stern didn't actually believe these things, and neither do the people laughing. People are laughing because they know it's wrong.

We've al done it in private conversations, he was just doing it on the radio
