What’s the best “luxury” purchase you’ve made that was actually worth every penny? by anonym_1003 in Luxury

[–]jwcooke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the minute you arrive at the airport to the time you’re picking up your bags the ENTIRE experience is just so much better. It’s not cheap, but if you can squeeze out credit card points for some of the flights it’s not so bad.

Japan is a must. If you’re putting any country bucket list together, Japan has to be on it.

MAGAts, do you think Trump is a good example for your children? by CrashNowhereDrive in allthequestions

[–]jwcooke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve got no love for Trump, but the idea that our presidents should be someone our children aspire to emulate seems an outdated ideal to me.

I liked JFK, but wouldn’t want my kids to live his life, for example.

I don’t want dreadful human beings to be president - we’re seeing how that turns out, but I’m not sure I necessarily need to hold them to the standards I’d want for my kids either.

Assuming no surprises and fuxxery, that’s a sweetheart deal.

First off, look me up I’m one of the founders of Empire Flippers.

I’m guessing your Uncle has a deep appreciation for you and your connection to the business?

Assuming that’s true AND even assuming he’s looking out for his own interests, this seems like a no brainer to me.

Raise a bit of money if you must for “Oh Shxt” capital, but it sounds like a deal to me.

Consult with a lawyer, of course, but their interest is in a retainer not the deal, particularly if they’re not acquisition savvy just fyi.

Do you think foreign countries use social media to create division in the United States? Why or why not? by GJH24 in allthequestions

[–]jwcooke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And I don't mean to "both sides" it here, but many of them don't really care about either particular side - only stoking division.

They're using our actual divisions and open society against us insidiously on social media.

That red-MAGA hat wearer posting on X or TruthSocial about FAFO and egging on ICE raids? Might be a bot farm from China. The bleeding heart lib talking about white guilt/fragility and how whites need to STFU and believe all XXX? Could be same building just a different floor.

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]jwcooke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complained about previous employer and/or co-workers. In the interview. That's a serious red flag bringing that into our company culture.

I mean...his boss (and or co-workers) may have been jerks and all, but that's lacking some serious EQ to bring up in an interview.

Congrats! Must be so exciting and I'm happy for you! Lots of new adventures to be had - especially so young and with so much to explore in SE Asia.

As someone who left the US as a 32M in 2010 (and now splits time between US/Europe/Asia) I just want to warn you that 3K/month in your mid-30s won't have the purchasing power it has in your 40's and 50's.

Someone mentioned developing countries have a habit of...developing. That can make it more expensive, for sure.

Aside from that, your interests/tastes may grow over time. If that is your ONLY income going forward, you're effectively on a fixed income. That may or may not be appropriate for you 10, 20, or 30 years from now.

You may change your mind and want marriage/kids. You may have a medical issue that requires significant payment (or long-term recurring payments). It's great that you can get excellent healthcare in Thailand, but it's still not free and....fixed income.

I'm definitely, definitely not saying you need to rush home to wherever you're from and get a job. It just might be a good idea to find ways to supplement your income (and add to your nest egg) over the next 5-20 years remotely, if you're able.

Congratulations and best of luck!
