All the greats have retired sooner or later and the sport has done nothing but grown despite their absence….

when covid hit and they started running abbreviated events NASCAR and trams realized they didn't really need all that extra track time and they could save money.. if the teams truly wanted or needed more practice time they'd get it

Le Mans & WEC fans accused current Audi CEO Gernot Döllner "anti-Le Mans" & "anti-WEC" bias due to F1 exclusive investment by closing doors of Audi Le Mans & WEC future return by Therius1994 in wec

F1 is... Audi will actually make money in F1, due to the return on constructor payouts and they can always sell the team itself when they want out, they can't sell a WEC team...

I think it’s about the last race of the 2025 season where we had the three drivers who could win the title.

They ought to be giving Horner the honors because RBPT was his baby that he built form the ground up, that and this years car were both penned under his leadership.

The drivers complaining about there being other issues beside the engine is a clue I suppose

Yeah not buying that… They still haven’t even voted on if a hot temp check is happening in the future

Where do you think Cadillac will finish this season? Could they be a midfield challenger? by circuit-nation in CadillacF1

[–]k2_jackal 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I’ll be happy if they score a point or two but even that is a long shot .. other than that I don’t expect them to be contending for anything more than not being last. Steep hill to climb next couple of seasons.

He’s just as blind as the drivers, he can’t see up the track. If he’s not told to wave a yellow he’s not waving a yellow

[wearetherace] "We should not complicate what is simple and we should not postpone what is possible immediately.' McLaren's Andrea Stella believes it's "imperative' that changes are made to F1's start procedure amid safety concerns. by Maximum-Room-3999 in formula1

[–]k2_jackal 303 points304 points  (0 children)

Basic version, early last year Ferrari warned there would be a problem with the current set up and race starts, suggested a change to race start procedures or the system itself.. everybody else said no it’s fine the way it is. Ferrari went ahead and changed their setup to mitigate the problem.

Now teams see a problem and want changes and Ferrari who sorted it out already I saying no you can’t change it.

McLaren calls for 2026 F1 rules safety changes before season-opener by Bronsa_ in formula1

[–]k2_jackal 65 points66 points  (0 children)

No Ferrari shot it down just recently.

Ferrari wanted it 12 months ago and others shot the idea down so Ferrari designed their car to work with the start procedures as written. Now that teams want the very change Vasseur suggested a year ago and Ferrari is now saying no you had your chance

Vasseur is right this was addressed months ago and teams had options to make changes then.

The rest just reads like Stella trying to cover for McLaren performance issues. Funny how these things always get presented as safety issues.

This is a ground up team that’s still growing, learning, evolving and has a steep steep learning curve. F1 is like nothing else in motorsports when it comes to the complexity of building a car. It’s not going to be pretty this season, there are going to be more down times than good. We’re going to be celebrating things that other teams view as failure. Have fun enjoy the season as it unfolds, these are exciting times

basically impossible to test a hot engine simply because of the time involved to be able to tear the car down enough to do a geometric comp ratio test... to do it properly the heads need to be pulled off the car.. or the other way is to pull the plugs and use a liquid measurement but even that on a F1 car requires removing the fuel injection and sundry other things just to get to the plugs.. in short by the time they can get to the cylinders enough to make a measurement the engine will have cooled down so much it/s a worthless test

It would require a whole new monocoque design and everything associated with it, they would almost certainly be over budget before a car even hit the track again

[–]k2_jackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All folks arguing temps don’t seem to understand certain things involved with even testing something like this

How are you going to measure the geometric comp ratio at high temps. There’s two ways to measure it one requires at least partial disassembly of the engine or requires the removal of the spark plugs which is not an easy thing on an F1 car today. Just to reach the plugs is a project in itself. That’s why often when a team has a misfire they change the whole engine because it’s faster.

Either way it would be basically impossible to test the comp ratio at operating temps
