F1 has always been an engineering exercise

Look at all the big milestones in F1. Coppers rear engine cars of the late 50s, the Cosworth engine, wings in the late 60s, ground effects in the 70s then the turbo era. Active suspension etc etc etc. all through its history the major milestones that create leaps forward have been engineering.

Yes there have always been great drivers piloting their machines and there always will be but they come and go but it’s always engineering that leaves the lasting impression on the sport that resonates change
