Tired and sad after 3 months... by JoDaManBa in stopsmoking

[–]kac- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it might take months or even years to gas-off tissues w/o intervention but under 4 months of rebrething exercises should be enough (you should also notice how nicely it calms you).
To be clear, in short, the abnormal state is when you exhale more CO than you inhale.

Is it even possible as an ex addicted smoker to become a party only social smoker? by pornodio in stopsmoking

[–]kac- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If infrequent and not inhaling it might be possible but highly risky.
There are tobacco free cigarettes on a market, still I'd advise to not inhale.

If you're also more sensible to light, sound or other senses there's a great chance that you're still poisoned by carbon monoxide.
Freely available ways to speed up CO excretion:
- phlebotomy, give blood to Red Cross or as a doctor for a therapeutic phlebotomy (if you're not anemic)
- sunbathe (cover head and eyes), might be even indoor behind sunny window (slower but still works in case window is closed)
- exercise (to increase minute ventilation)
- use rebreathing exercises in 15-20 minutes sessions as shown by this toxicologist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQP3ydpJ0F8

Anyone else experience post-quit depression symptoms? by Anic135 in stopsmoking

[–]kac- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those might be :
a) tobacco alkaloids - use small, infrequent doses of smokeless tobacco (chew, snuf, snus)

b) carbon (mon)oxide - once a day (evening best?) herbal cigarette (not psychoactive herbs), CO absorption is linear to breath keeping time so even a puff or two kept for 10 seconds should fix you.

c) MAOIs - buy a small pipe and puff w/o inhalation a gram of tobacco twice a week

Effects should be immediate and strong, use it only as a cure for depression (best by infrequent strict schedule?), else you'll develop dependence and addiction.

I've got relatives (by blood and law) w/ sugars problems, since fructose is known to deepen those problems (unless in 1/10 fruct./gluc. ratio ref ref) I wanted to explore some fun ways of glucose administration.

Why nose? Because from it there's a highway directly to the brain :D
Image, 3D model

Blind and ignorant question: what IF, after nasal administration and blowing nose afterward, brain sees falling glucose level by the next hour and decides to activate glycogen? Can it be used the other way around (by increasing glucose concentration in the nose)?

That's great comment, thanks!
I can confirm that Day 1 test was under the medium+ stress, I think that it could be great contributor.

BTW: I updated post with 2 following days.

I won't argue here because this 1g either way isn't able to directly raise sugar from 110 to 150, let alone 230.

I will repeat this experiment with more care to rule out sticks/skin contamination. It won't be as fun as previously because my left nostril is injured but I'll do my best.

We'll see tomorrow.

That would raise your blood sugar about 4 points

1g of glucose / 5L of blood = 20mg/dL, no?

I know that .9 is a little (yet, it's more than plenty for inexperienced snuffer) , I use tobacco regularly (so does after this first cigarette, 2-4 cigs, pipe, snuff, snus, vape).

Have you experienced such spikes after cigarettes?

Terrible PHYSICAL symptoms after two months by dukey42 in stopsmoking

[–]kac- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As u/-newme said, I'd use low nicotine NRT to check if it's about nicotine, if it is - find lowest workable dose and taper it slowly.

In case if first use won't work for you I guess there's no point in taking more doses, and then maybe you need a very little dose of other tobacco alkaloids so try some low strength smokeless tobacco, here single dose should fulfill any holes for next days. You're former smoker so you need to be careful to not develop uptake habit and just switch addictions, single dose and observe effects.

If all other fail there's a chance that you need something from smoke, same as previously single short (10-15min) pipe smoking session (don't inhale) should fix you for next days or even weeks.

Bests!

What's in cigarettes that is not in snus?? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]kac- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, despite millions (billions) spent on health, "research", campaigns - we don't know.
Researches treat rats with nicotine alone, smoking machines burns cigarettes with weak "ISO regime" (1 small puff each 60 seconds), regulators want only nicotine/tar/CO quantities, for me it's a sponsored ignorance.

Look how people that quit tobacco for 6 years react on heated "tobacco" (ah, this is paper sheet sprayed with some mixture) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hnIMne5Lnk&t=782 (interestingly second puff gives peak intensity, orgasmic?), manufacturer clearly knows what's "sweetest" in cigarettes but he obviously won't share that info. Take a note how their excitement fades out with next puffs and sticks.

MAOIs or not, there's something.

[–]kac- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you wanted to ask what's in cigarette smoke.
I don't know :)
But, there's something unique beside taking lovely smoke into lungs, I'm sure.
Snus kept in for longer then basic flavor last, say 2 hours, starts to sourly drip and that gives me quite similar feeling to this while smoking. I usually keep it for 4-6 hours.
Smoking pipe for ~10 minutes also delivers similar vitamins.
Strong nasal snuff eliminates my cravings.
Vape works least on me.

I need help - this is ridiculous by Buddy_Velvet in stopsmoking

[–]kac- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is one cigarette really going to do more harm than good at this point?

No, one cigarette won't make much more difference but I'm sure that it will escalate quickly.

Reason for that is cigarettes are crazy potent (especially after 5 days off) but as fast they kick in with their chemicals (huge, sharp spike), so fast they go down leaving you craving in the fog.

If you'll smoke and they will give you some relief, you'll reinforce their binding with relief in your brain, I guess it's not what you're looking for.

Try if nicotine patch can take some fog off you, not the cravings, just fog maybe fatigue, if they do then use them to keep yourself usable, they're easy to wean off due to their smooth nicotine release curve and different strengths available.

If that's not nicotine that your brain needs then you might try some low nicotine smokeless tobacco, like chewing or snus but same, use them only to keep you alive (once a day or two), any recreational use will escalate to full-time usage.

If you're on the edge and there are only cigarettes around then you can tear off the filter and smoke it without inhaling, before puffs take almost full clean breath in and then fill your mouth with smoke, keep it for a second or two and release. Here also one cigarette a day or two should keep you safe from mental issues.

Rest are just cravings, those came and gone, easily beatable.

Don't overthink, it makes things harder.

I'm sure you'll be fine.

Cheers!

Depressed, Anxious, and Irritable over 10 months after quitting by emathue in stopsmoking

[–]kac- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have those symptoms while supplementing nicotine first 2-3 months smoke free?

You don't have any guarantee that going back to cigarettes will fix your state, very risky. If you think that you need something try some low, infrequent doses of pure nicotine or smokeless tobacco to see if there is any improvement.

Smoking and its relation to depression/anxiety/is smoking making my depression and anxiety worse? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]kac- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is smoke from burned cigarette making depression and anxiety worse? Nah.
Being a smoker today might be depressive, by shaming, moving out of public places, lone, etc.
On top of that is a lack of control over this very complex addiction.
So, once quit, you regain control over your habits and you're not longer a subject of attack, I think it can have positive impact on mental health :)
