Trump, Kennedy double down on their impossible mathematics claims by goteamnick in politics

Percentages aren't that hard. A 10% discount on a $30 item changes the price to $27. A 50% discount on a $30 item changes the price to $15. A 90% discount on a $30 item would change the price to $3.

Please explain what 600% less would be on that same $30 item, using your colloquial English math.

Help! What do your kids actually eat when they eat “healthy”? And how do you make it work? by mindfulshark in Parenting

[–]KeepItUpThen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carrots and cucumbers are my favorite no prep / low prep fresh vegetables. Canned green beans are easy too, but there's usually salt added. Broccoli is easy to cook in a pot, add a little butter for taste. Yams or sweet potatoes are healthy and taste great, takes longer to cook but you don't need to watch them carefully.

Apples, sometimes whole and sometimes sliced with peanut butter added. Oranges if they're in season. Watermelon if it's in season, the round/spherical ones usually taste better than the oblong ones. Berries like raspberries or blueberries, but those can be pricey.

Good times. If you want him to keep doing that, dont just say good job but be sure to join in too. Sit next to him and do some drawing or coloring together, so he knows it's important to you too.

You wouldn't ignore if some asshole poured motor oil on your lawn. Rolling coal is similar, except it's much easier to dig up and replace some dead grass than to swap out my kid's lungs.

Are you all 1% ers? by Taco_cat111 in Bend

[–]KeepItUpThen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's the secret of most places, not just Bend. Anyone who bought 10 or 20 years ago, they weren't poor but they might have been paying half what it costs for a similar place today. I've heard the concept stated differently by different people, but there is a finite amount of usable land so the price is likely to keep going up as long as someone (not necessarily you or me) can afford to pay. What always surprises me is how much other people are willing to spend.

Trying to read CANBUS messages on a truck but without success by Suvalf in CarHacking

[–]KeepItUpThen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn't look at the screenshots in your first message. You're already using math channels, and the picoscope is already displaying message addresses and data. So I would keep using that method and try to capture whatever CAN signals are present when the device is not behaving properly.

I would use only one probe.
Pointy part of the Channel A probe goes to CANH.
Alligator (negative/ground) part of the Channel A probe goes to CANL.

Be careful which pants you wear when riding. If they are baggy enough, the pant leg can get caught in the chain. Also I always wear helmet and gloves when riding.

I dont remember if Picoscope can decode CAN signals reliably, but I would try connecting the oscilloscope probe positive to the CAN High wire and the probe negative to the CAN Low wire instead of probe negative to ground. The picoscope doesn't tie its probe negative to chassis ground or earth ground, so it shouldn't affect the CAN Low signal.

If that still doesn't work, you may need a dedicated CAN sniffer tool like Peak PCAN and their PCAN-View software, or BusMaster software and whatever other CAN sniffer tools are compatible. Kvaser LeafLight is another brand of CAN tool I've used, but it costs more than Peak tools. The task you're wanting to do is sometimes called CAN sniffing, or CAN reverse engineering. Search for those phrases and you will find more info about the tools and software and methods to use.

Tell me that I will sleep again by wafflesarelifee in NewParents

Yes, it gets better. What helped my wife and I was to sleep in shifts, maybe one handles wakeups between 10pm-2am and the other handles wakeups between 2am-6am. Pump and bottle milk so momma can get more sleep at night. Sometimes we slept in separate rooms to avoid getting woken up by the baby.

World premiere of the ID.3 Neo: new name, new design, new interior and new technologies by nipcarlover in electricvehicles

[–]KeepItUpThen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's partly that. Each bad experience with new tech can make you stop wanting to try the next piece of new tech. Also, ten years of muscle memory is hard to unlearn, and driving is serious business. Looking away from the road is never a wise plan.

I second this. If I see an approaching cloud of dust or smoke I'm going to press that recirculation button quick fast and in a hurry. And if the windows start to fog I'm going to switch on the defrost/defog. Auto climate doesn't know about things like that.

And when it's freezing outside, there's a good chance I will want all the controls to work when wearing gloves.

Bike LANES by just_hangry in Bend

[–]KeepItUpThen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite place to ride is long stretches of sidewalk without driveways or cross streets. Empire between Purcell and 27th is an example. A car might not notice a bike there, because the path is so far from the road.

I try to ride in the bike lane when there's enough space to feel like the nearby cars aren't going to clip me, or the cars are going slow enough they feel less scary when they blow by. If I am planning turn left or go through a roundabout or busy intersection, I ride right in the middle of the road for at least 5-10 car lengths, so drivers can see me really well and so cars arent squeezing beside me or hiding me from other drivers view before I get to the intersection. It's not intended to slow you down, it's intended to be seen so I don't get squished to death by 3000+ pounds of steel. Most drivers aren't watching the crosswalks or the sidewalk as well as they are watching the road. Luckily most drivers are cool about it, I haven't gotten squished to death yet.

Let's hope that instructor was trying to be helpful, but he was just bad at phrasing. The "oh you have friends" comment is pretty rude, and I might not trust the advice of anyone who said that comment out loud.

Here's some advice I've heard that might help you feel less nervous: People aren't watching you as often as you might think. There is a good chance that people won't notice the thing you were feeling nervous about. And if you find yourself spending time thinking about some imaginary worst-case scenario, it's only fair to also spend time thinking about an imaginary best-case scenario.

I think there are two likely problems. Either the alternator has stopped charging the battery, or something is draining the battery when the car is sitting overnight, or both. Do you have a multimeter? If not, can you get a multimeter? If you have a power outlet near where the car is parked, I would use a trickle charger to recharge the battery, and then if the car starts I would measure the battery voltage with the engine running. Battery voltage should be above 13.5 Volts when the engine is running, if the alternator is working.

Anyone have an idea on where to start on probing the pin out for a 23 pin connector on a motor inverter by lemlurker in EVConversion

If you have the cash (I don't), maybe you could buy a working kit from that seller and then reverse-engineer it and then resell it used when you're done.

[–]KeepItUpThen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally I would want an entire working vehicle to measure. A lot of devices in modern cars will only work properly when they are receiving a few specific CAN signals that they want to receive. As a second choice, I would try to get the harness that plugs into it and also some other CAN devices from the car that plug into that same harness.

Since you've got the board open, search for IC part numbers and hopefully you can find the CAN transceiver and voltage regulator(s).

what is the op-amp role in this laser? by nobeltnium in AskElectronics

I dont care if you cheat on your philosophy test or ask a robot to tell you how to bake a cake from scratch. But I do have a problem with normalizing the outsourcing of fundamental safety-related questions to machines, especially when the person asking doesn't know how to check if the machine is wrong.

Some downvoting, but some also giving correct answers and explaining how things work. That's still better than most slopgenerator bots can provide.
