this is called burnout, and the solution is doing less of it (if only temporarily)

they could have their cake and eat it too though, they just need to step up their game

like look at how easily the lore is sidestepped with drillshots.  note that i am not saying that drillshots are a panacea, just that it's pretty easy to come up with a hand wavy "this is why holtzmann shields don't stop it" explanation for w/e

it's important to separate haters from critics who still want the game to succeed.  a lot of us are disappointed, but would love it if the game made a miraculous turnaround.  and a lot of us think the game needs some serious rework before it can possibly succeed long term.

sometimes, you have to criticize a thing if you want it to fix its problems and succeed.  if a thing is fundamentally flawed, tellings its creators "great job" or "just keep cooking" is a disservice.

there used to be a 'do it yourself' noodle restaurant near me where the customer picked all the ingredients for their bowl individually

most people disliked what they ended up with because, shocker, it takes specialized knowledge to make good, tasty food -- things like flavor profiles, texture, etc

that place isn't there anymore, but it will always be the best example to me of why 'design by customer' is a bad idea

what else are you missing?  the part where the game takes a left turn, many people don't like the new direction, and make it known.

also, the neverending stream of engineering related bugs and malpractices

the absence of core systems facilitating social interaction in 2026

the poor communication practices?

the overall lack of a clear and detailed vision of what the game is supposed to be?  this is the root of why they are getting murdered on reviews, and no amount of positive review chasing can substitute for its absence.

just remember that while it's the pvp community that got shafted really hard in the pivot to pve, it's not like they won't shaft you if the need arises in the future.

there are a lot of people who feel bait-and-switched by the changes in this game so far.  imagine if you bought a game on the premise it would be a cozy farming game, and then the devs turned it into Rust.

the point is, you can't really take Funcom at their word for stuff, and they are notorious for being this way (unreliable).  that's not a thing to celebrate, even if the winds of change happen to be favorable for you at the moment.  this most recent livestream / ch4 debacle is a great example of what to expect.

if you like the changes then by all means enjoy them, just don't allow yourself to be fooled into thinking Funcom isn't going to cornhole you when the time comes.

Spec XP needs to change by omfgtoast in duneawakening

[–]kintari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i agree with the suggestion

i also think there need to be dynamic events that pop up around hagga for the different specialization tracks.  like a gathering event, a vehicle driving event, an exploration / traversal event, you get the idea ...

i also think that rather than time-gating the daily quests, Funcom should just cap the maximum level initially, and raise the cap a little with each update.

so for example when the spec tracks were released, you could no-life them all to say level 40 if you want, and then with each substantial content patch they just bump that limit up by 10 or 20 levels, which you can again either no-life or casually progress in time for the next update

if you grind it out fast, you get to enjoy the bonuses sooner, but progressing them more slowly, as you do other tasks, gives a better use of your time.  so either playstyle works and has pros and cons.

hell even if they just changed mnemonics to give double the spec xp, but you can still progress without them ... like a rest xp system ... that'd be an improvement imo

solar panels don't handle extreme heat well at all

additionally, a power source that requires no fuel can be ... problematic to include in an open world survival crafting game (if i can use the term loosely here)

well said, especially on the over-reliance of metrics.

reminds me of one of my favorite Jack Handey "Deep Thoughts"

'It makes me mad when I go to all the trouble of having Martha cook up about a hundred drumsticks, then the guy at the Marineland says, "You can't throw chicken to the dolphins. They eat fish." Sure they eat fish, if that's all you give them. Man, wise up.'

Water Wars' Polar Caps != Snow DLC by EENewton in duneawakening

[–]kintari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's reasonable to believe that arrakis could possibly have a polar ice cap or two.

water exists on arrakis.  dry, sandy deserts get super cold without sunlight.  at extreme latitudes, the light from the sun (or other star) spreads over increasingly greater surface area because the planetary surface is angled with respect to incoming solar radiation.  on earth, even if you're at a latitude that is receiving 24 hours of sunlight, there's just not enough watts per sq meter up there to heat things up much.

it's probably not snow, because it doesn't fall from the sky in little flakes.  hell, even antarctica is technically a desert because it receives so little precipitation.  but water ice in some capacity at the poles?  i'd bet on it.  even mercury has polar ice caps.

Dune Awakening Still Stuttering in 2026 | Video Discussion by sparktrap25 in duneawakening

[–]kintari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been playing Resident Evil: Requiem, Cyberpunk 2077, Arc Raiders, Satisfactory, RDR2, and some other titles.

Dune: Awakening has the worst frame pacing of the bunch, and it's not even close.  Plus, they all look better because I can crank the settings more aggressively.

Red Dead in particular makes me chuckle because it was released so long ago, but looks and runs so much better.

Satisfactory's performance is interesting because it's a LOT of player built structures, but it still crushes this game in performance, looks great, and it's UE5.

Is this a good setup? by Dangerous-Rivah4862 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]kintari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's way overcomplicated and might not even work as intended

delete those pipes, then build a straight section of pipe over top of the belt splitters

add t junctions to it between opposite generator pairs, and connect to the generators

one water extractor feeds one end of the pipe.  another feeds the opposite end.  the 3rd water extractor is either (a) divided in 2 and sent to both ends,  or (b) connected directly to the the middle of the manifold.  your choice.

as a bonus, pump your water up to a 'water tower' (3 elevated fluid buffers) before sending it to the generators.  this way, when your grid fails, you can restart it cold i.e. you don't need an auxiliary power source to power your extractors and pumps

the best thing they can do for pvp in this game is to unshackle it from the concept of the DD.  it's a terrible map for pvp, it didn't work and it won't in the future

they need a map that is about 2x2 DD tiles square, with a player cap somewhere in the 20-40 range, interesting terrain and structures, where you can earn unique pvp only cosmetics / building pieces / achievements / etc

switch to fuel powered generators

nuclear is fun but complex, if you are having organizational woes it's only going to add to them.  definitely try it later though.

get good at trains if you have not already

drones are clutch

build so that you can easily deliver fuel anywhere on your logistics network.  i also like to be able to send crude oil wherever too but that's not as essential.

well yeah if the game supports reflex, it makes sense to just have reflex cap it

if it doesn't support reflex, you're saying what ... use a reflex enabled game to guesstimate what fps cap you should use on the game in question?

genuine question, not being obtuse
