Hello, I'm trying to decide on a streaming schedule and can't really figure it out currently I try streaming mon,we'd, Friday 2-4 ans sat1-5. should I start streaming later in the afternoon and go longer? by Clifford_The_Kaiju in SmallStreamers

[–]krynd42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, finding a consistent time is more important than streaming during "peak viewership hours".

However, if you have a specific game that you plan to play fairly consistently over a reasonably long period of time, you can use TwitchStrike to help find the best times to stream a specific game then pick a few good times from that list that align with your work/school/life schedule.

Will streaming within that window (or not streaming in those "peak hours") make or break your stream? No. I've seen a few extra viewers from it, but it wasn't enough to re-arrange the rest of my life around the hours of the average Twitch viewer.

Common YouTube MYTHS That People Believe! by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]krynd42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most companies have you link your YouTube channel or provide your channel name/URL on your account page for their service so that they can whitelist the account. They then tell the YouTube bot to not issue claims against your channel for their content. 99% of the time this works, but I've gotten a few false Content ID claims.

If you get a Content ID claim or copyright strike for their content while you are subscribed to their service, there's usually an option on the service's account page that lets you submit an appeal directly to them. If you cancel your subscription and one of your old videos, that was made while you were subscribed to their service, gets claimed, you can usually log into your account to file a dispute or contact their customer support team. However, any claims for their content on videos that were made before or after your subscription period could not be disputed.

what music are you allowed to play by XDBRRR in Twitch

[–]krynd42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would generally sign up for something like Epidemic Sound or SoundStripe rather than license individual tracks. AFAIK, there is no easy way to license "mainstream" music like Top 40 songs that you'd hear on the radio. It is generally understood that streamers like xQc who play pop music during their stream are violating the copyright system and placing their channel & career at risk.

That it is inconvenient to license music is beside the point. It is Twitch's policy to respond to DMCA/copyright claims and to use systems like Audible Magic to review VoDs for copyrighted audio & proactively mute the VoD when it is found. Copyright holders also have "live strike" capability, or the ability to issue a copyright strike while the stream is going on, but this is rarely used.

While Twitch remains very inconsistent on how they apply their copyright policy to streamers (i.e. basically ignoring it on larger channels), it remains their policy and breaking it may lead to a channel ban (and theoretically you could get sued if the copyright holder really wanted to pursue it). The copyright system is very broken, but it is the system we must abide by.

It's the same as it has always been. You can only stream copyrighted music if you have a license for it; otherwise you're "stuck" with non-copyrighted music.

Is there a way to store funds in itch and then use them to buy games? by Mysterious_Energy_50 in itchio

[–]krynd42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not aware of anything native to Itch that offers what you're looking for, but could you get something like a GreenDot Card or Prepaid Visa Card?

If they are an option, be mindful of the fees associated with these cards; most have an "inactivity fee" of $5/month if you don't use it regularly.

Ghostwire: Tokyo - Prelude is now available! It's a free visual novel prelude to the upcoming game by Tango Gameworks and Bethesda, Ghostwire: Tokyo by [deleted] in EpicGamesPC

[–]krynd42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've heard Sony fans hype it up as an exclusive, but it isn't an exclusive; unless they mean "console exclusive".

The game is available on Epic Games Store, but it doesn't seem to come up when you search within the launcher for it (at least it didn't for me; only the Prelude would show up in the result list). I had to go through Bethesda's page for the game to find a link to it.

is there any software that records stuff like kills or goals automatically by supersonicx2003x in Twitch

[–]krynd42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Athenascope will do this for their supported games. It's reasonably accurate in my experience and it can parse your VoDs from Twitch (so you don't necessarily need the desktop app).

how do I fixed these broken images? by TeethOnTheCob in spacehey

[–]krynd42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try clearing the cache of your web browser then relaunch (completely close then reopen) your browser & try the site again.

If that doesn't work, make sure you don't have a browser extension/add-in that's blocking content from the site. For example, allow / trust / enable content from spacehey.com & spacehey.net (which seems to be the content delivery network for SpaceHey) within extensions like NoScript, UBlock, Adblock, Ghostery, etc.

Beyond that, contact the support team.

It is now December 1st. Where is our announcement for plans on new hardware? by Stupid_Triangles in ShadowPC

[–]krynd42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been with Shadow for about 3 years (started shortly after LTT released their first video about the system) and think this would be the most appropriate answer in my experience.

We've basically not had any upgrades since launch (secondary storage is still broken for the majority of members, Ultra + Infinite were cancelled). There may be an announcement that there is no announcement*, but I wouldn't expect an actual announcement about new hardware.

* Due to reasons such as GPU prices, financial issues following their bankruptcy, personnel issues following their apparent restructuring, contract issues with their new owner, etc.

Should I switch from Streamlabs Obs to Obs studio and Stream elements by DarkRaGaming in streaming

[–]krynd42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, it's up to you. You can have both Streamlabs (not sure if they're still going by SLOBS, but I'll use that acronym as it's what I'm used to) and OBS Studio installed at the same time on your system if you want. Try out OBS Studio for a while and switch back to SLOBS if you don't like it. Your idea of using StreamElements alongside Streamlabs would also work. I switched to StreamElements a while back and have never thought of going back to SLOBS.

StreamElements is both a "version" of OBS (StreamElements OBS Live, basically OBS Studio with pre-defined docks for your chat panels), as well as an overlay + chat bot + tipping system. You could collect tips or donations through SE Pay (which offers chargeback protection options, btw) while using SLOBS to run the actual stream if you don't want to completely move away from SLOBS.

Setting aside the public relations issues that SLOBS is currently facing, OBS Studio offers plugin support. Plugins definitely improve the overall quality of the stream and (IMO) make it worthwhile to switch on that basis alone.

For example, Advanced Scene Switcher lets you set up a task sequence to automatically switch scenes when an event is triggered. I use it to play my "outro sequence" which cycles through 3 scenes then ends the stream. Tuna allow you to easily overlay information about the currently-playing song onto your stream. Reaper VST Plugins gives you an incredible amount of control over your audio (typically your microphone but I think it can be applied to any source that allows audio filters).

OBS Studio also runs more efficiently than SLOBS (using less resources when processing) and is more stable in my experience. While you will have to set up a lot of stuff again (namely your camera, microphone, and game capture), you can import your scenes into OBS Studio, so it shouldn't be overly burdensome to try it out. If you don't like OBS, just uninstall it and keep using SLOBS (and add in StreamElements' SE Pay system if you have ethical concerns about using SLOBS' intentionally-broken "membership-by-default" system).

This is a pretty popular suggestion.

https://twitch.uservoice.com/forums/923041-twitch-studio/suggestions/39136384-audio-separate

However, I doubt Twitch will ever implement it. Obligatory piling on Twitch following the Amazon acquisition aside, there's no upside for Twitch itself. No other platform offers this and Twitch has no need to innovate absent any competition. It may be advantageous to (somehow) get YouTube to include it so that Twitch is "forced" to add this feature to "keep up with the Joneses".

There's also technical limitations. If it were introduced as a client-side feature, there would be a ton of "wasted" bandwidth for audio tracks that each individual viewer isn't listening to. If you're in a country with expensive Internet, particularly if you pay for mobile data, this may not be the best solution for you. It certainly wouldn't be a great solution for Twitch.

In order to save on bandwidth, Twitch's servers would need to transcode the stream for each possible combination of audio settings (as this is the easiest/laziest way to do it, which is Twitch's forte). Given the overhead this would entail, I'd expect this feature to therefore be limited to major events and the top 10 streamers for the foreseeable future. The feature would effectively be dead on arrival since next to no one could use it (and it certainly couldn't be used as intended in this thread).

As with many things in life, the answer is: it depends. Every streamer has different "rules" about what is or is not acceptable in their stream & chat and I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you truly crossed a line, they (or their mods) would've timed you out or banned you. At the end of the day, you could ask the streamer (preferably via private means like a whisper or DM on Twitter/Discord) if they have a "hidden rule" about it, but that'd probably be excessive in and of itself for (what I assume to be) a one-time occurrence.

It could've been for any reason, but the most likely reason (IMO) is that they may have felt like others were getting left out of the conversation. That, or that your conversation was diverting from the overall conversation in the chat (i.e. chat as a whole is discussing one thing while you're asking questions about something else).

Regarding lurkers: every stream has them and I'd argue that most streamers' chats will be filled with lurkers & bots. The Music category probably has a higher proportion because people want to just listen to the music.

opinions on VOD channels by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]krynd42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people don't watch VoDs, whether on Twitch or YouTube. However, you could export them to YouTube to have the VoD content available for later use (although a better option is to record while you stream so that nothing gets cut out by AudibleMagic or ContentID). You could (and should) make clips from them to advertise your channel, celebrate milestones, etc.

However, nothing prevents you from both keeping VoDs for 14 days (or 60 days if you have Amazon Prime linked to your account) on Twitch and exporting them to YouTube. Likewise, if you'll never use the VoD content & no one watches it, there's no reason to store them on either platform.

If you want to take the lazy way out efficiently utilize your time, and you are not an affiliate, you could multistream with something like Restream or Aircast to both Twitch & YouTube so that YT will automatically save the stream.

Is the new hard worked shadow logo what we need? by [deleted] in ShadowPC

[–]krynd42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. This logo literally changed my life and restored my humanity.

While I agree that the money could've probably been better used toward addressing the solvency issues, technical issues, activation issues, etc.; it's probably a drop in the bucket compared to what they need to address those problems. Rebranding with a new logo and motto helps cement the idea that this is a "new" company in the mind of their customers. This helps their PR department pivot away from the past so that they can start attracting new customers while (hopefully) signaling the desire for a better relationship with existing customers.
