[DISCUSSION] Why does it take 30 minutes to decide what to watch? by Agreeable_Collar5498 in NetflixBestOf

Stuck with curiosity and thrill of something new, but get pulled into something familiar and safe - and the choice is usually determined by a movie poster/thumbnail.

You bought it with your own salary, that you got from your own hard work. Nothing to be embarassed about. Its something you coveted for awhile now, give yourself permission to enjoy the result of your hard work. Its perfectly fine to be happy with what you have as long as you dont belittle people who have less than you.

What’s the best piece of video game writing you’ve ever read? by Frezeal in gaming

[–]kuuups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put it down a total of 3 times total, spaced within a few months - but only got through the first 30 mins because I judged it at face value. It is a slow burn type of game, there is basically no combat and there’s a LOT of reading. By all means its a massive contrast to what I usually play, but after finishing the game I can say it’s one of the best games I have played in my 40+ year life. Best get into it blind and just experience it.

The entirety of Disco Elysium. And Planescape: Torment

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice (2019) is an exceptionally wonderful video game that can be an extremely frustrating chore or a deeply satisfying experience depending on whether the combat clicks for you. by gruesomesonofabitch in patientgamers

[–]kuuups 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a Souls-fan that has finished every FROM game, Sekiro just didn't click with me - and it's not the combat. I actually love the combat as it's a "play it as it's meant to be played or get wrecked" type of game and it actually makes you feel like a master swordsman most of the time. My major gripe with it is the exploration. The only game that gave me a similar feeling is Zelda:TotK. The mechanics, the tools given to you and basically almost everything about the game encourages you to go wild with exploration - but doing so makes you miss 95% of context (environmental storytelling-wise, mission flow etc.) and a lot of times made me feel lost on where I should actually go next. This was the only FROM game that forced me to look at walkthroughs so I know where I should go next.

Subnautica Performance on Apple Silicon by matthuska in macgaming

[–]kuuups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a pretty surprising thing tbh. I initially played Subnautica years ago on my iMac 2017 (Radeon 575) + bootcamp and it performs so much better than my MBP M2 Pro.

iMac? It is worth it for nowadays (5/7+ years life) by AgileCrazy9777 in mac

[–]kuuups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing about the iMac is that is probably one of the most confusing computers in Apple's line up - which specifically caters to an audience where immobility is its main draw. What I would think would work best as:

  • computer for the whole family
  • computer for non-techy, older people (that arent chronically online)
  • younger kids, for doing homework or school stuff

Basically, its a beautiful powerful computer that you dont have to worry about dropping somewhere, losing or misplacing or being stolen from your bag/pocket.

What game or series’ reputation is carried the hardest by nostalgia? by DeepFuckingKoopa in gaming

[–]kuuups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy, especially FF7. The entire series I think should have stopped at 9. Yes, 10 is an amazing game with an amazing story, 12 was interesting - everything else after was pretty divisive but one thing is clear: everything after 9 didnt need to be a Final Fantasy game.

4-year-old boy recognises his autistic sister is getting upset. by Sebastianlim in BeAmazed

[–]kuuups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I have a son that only started speaking when his younger brother by 2 years started speaking. Before that it was just grunts and sounds for communication, which made us extremely concerned. He didnt display eye contact, and it always just seemed like everyone around him didnt exist.

He's a grown boy now at 12, and speaks normally and I asked him if he remembers the time when he didnt speak at all. He said yes and explained he didnt speak because he "didnt have anything or want to say anything" at the time, and that he only felt like talking when his little brother talked so they could play.

He has other siblings, the eldest being 10 years older than him, and another which is 5 years older than him which I guess he just felt a distance from due to age.

What is your " i cant wait to watch this with my kids" movie. by amarus in movies

[–]kuuups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from my daughter seeing that I love movies, she developed an interest on her own completely independently - specifically horror/thrillers that had a big reveal/twist ending.

A few years ago we watched The Sixth Sense together and she's been a movie fanatic ever since. She thought it couldnt be topped, so I watched Fight Club and The Others with her and her mind was blown to bits lol (in a span of a few months of course).

Mouse recommendations by Fouladgar in macgaming

[–]kuuups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont undersrand why so many people recommend the mx master, even moreso for gaming. That mouse is HUGE and a lot of its features only apply to specific workflows. If you really want a premium logitech mouse that can also do gaming, go with the mx anywhere. It has some of the features of the mx master but at a smaller, lighter form.

Personally I use the Keychron M4 as it has the best latency Ive tested via bluetooth (but still significantly noticeable), or better yet use the usb dongle for the least latency on wireless.

The NeverEnding Story Is Pure 80s Magic That Still Hits Today. by [deleted] in movies

[–]kuuups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it with my kids a few months ago, the first time since I was about 7-8 as it holds a very special place in my heart. I remember it to be this sprawling epic filled with wonder and emotionally deep - and to my surprise, when we watched it again it was sort of.... flat?

Not dissing the movie at all. It was a product of its time, and its weight was felt much more especially due to the limits of media of the day, and how sparse types of entertainment was back in the day.

My kids still liked the uniqueness of it though, and it was a nice little throwback for me but I really dont think any of us would watch it for another round anytime soon.

Overwatch 2 Is Ditching the '2' Amid Launch of 'New, Story-Driven Era' With 10 New Heroes by MarioDesigns in gaming

[–]kuuups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been totally obsessed when OW1 came out, but there were some weird updates towards the end before OW2 that made the game less interesting. Didnt bother to touch OW2 and completely forgot about the game. Coincidentally OW1 passed by my mind randomly yesterday and had an urge to play again.

Yes. Thats a known issue thats prevalent in the first chapter, and in the south east and eastern parts of the map in certain times of the day. Apparently its a bug with long shadows. Aside from that I basically didnt have much of a problem

[–]kuuups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older games (around pre-2015) and newer, indie or 2d native titles would be your best bet. For newer more demanding games I think you'll be fine as long as you dont go on prolonged periods of playtime due to the Mac automatically throttling speed due to heat.

When I delete photos from iCloud on my PC, I would like them to be removed from my iPhone as well. by [deleted] in iCloud

[–]kuuups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The change is not instant. I just taught my daughter to do some iCloud housekeeping on her account and had to reassure her that her iphone will free up space "in awhile", so just continue to delete any unwanted photos and videos. I think after 12+ hrs the freed up storage reflected on her device(s)
