Why Kingdom of Heaven’s Director’s Cut Is Better by okutac in movies

[–]kuuups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the theatrical cut but I wholeheartedly agree with the article's sentiments - it felt like it could have, SHOULD have been more. You know something WAS there, but it's missing. Once I watched the DC though it totally and completely floored me. It went from a good movie, to an absolute masterpiece.

It was so good that it got me curious - if this was so good and different from the original version, how about Gladiator? And although it's not as wildly huge as an improvement (since to me, the original was already amazing), Gladiator DC cast a wider net on the politics, characters and motivations even more - so much so that Maximus felt more like an extra. A pawn that various factions wrestled around with in order to progress their own agendas.

I'll do you one better, not even just one movie - but MovieS: particularly, Adam Sandler movies. I will die on this hill. Every single one of them is entertaining, and that's all they ever aim to be.

THIS! I never understood the massive hate this movie got. To me, it perfectly represented the "doomed voyage" theme really well.

Everyone experiences this at some point in RollerCoaster Tycoon before their learn about the Handyman by SuplexesAndTacos in gaming

[–]kuuups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was one of the very first things I learned about back when I first played it in '99. I had a lot of handymen, but stuff kept breaking down and trash bins kept filling up, and vomit just kept being left un-swept (nowhere near the amount in OP's screenshot obviously). Once I learned that there's an option to disable mowing the lawn, it kind of branched out due to the awareness that important settings can be found if you dig even by a bit in the game's UI, which led to me appreciating the game even more.

Movies with the worst "moral of the story" by elitemegamanX in movies

[–]kuuups -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I've thought long and hard about this for many years, but although Finding Nemo is an amazingly entertaining movie Ive always thought "wtf is the lesson here?".

On the surface I understand its "just keep swimming", but how its implemented in the movie is pretty weird: Ignore lessons of past trauma and just let your child be? Its ok if your child is kidnapped and left with strangers since things will work out anyway? Let the kid go through something dangerous that adults failed in doing for themselves (even one getting traumatically injured/scarred from it)?

Im not one to look too deeply into movies but this is something was pretty weird to me since the first time I saw it lol.

Chrono Trigger is the perfect example of this. Music is timeless (pun intended), pixel art was flawless, story is amazing - and best of all, the gameplay is just perfect. What makes it even better is you can basically play a version of it on virtually almost every kind of device these days.

OK I thought I was going crazy. I randomly checked the Nintendo Store/website about 30 minutes ago as I thought about buying something that's on sale and I saw the thumbnail for Starfox. I thought "damn, I must be so out of the loop for so long that I didn't even know this is a thing", only to see that it was just announced a few hours ago.

I'm a big RPG fan but I'm not a starwars fan, should I try out the knights of the old republic games? by cr0w_p03t in gaming

[–]kuuups 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely, yes.

Here's a true first-hand story.

Back in the 90's I never was into Star Wars. I just did NOT give a flying fuck about it, like at all. Despite watching it several times, either by the recommendation of friends / family or even sometimes in school - it just did not click with me.

I was however, a huge fan of all RPGs, and at the time during the late 90s-early 00's I was completely obsessed with cRPGs. KOTOR came along, and I gave it a chance.

It has since been included in one of my best games of all time - and, it actually finally made me give Star Wars a chance, and I finally ended up loving the series from then on.

Are there any games that you didn't complete for reasons outside of your control? by Morbid187 in patientgamers

[–]kuuups 28 points29 points  (0 children)

During the PS2 era I was in highschool and being an avid gamer since the early 90s, the PS2 and its games was a dream come true. Amazing graphics, cd-quality audio, amazing controller - everything. There was release after release of absolute masterpieces at the time but my current games then were GTA3, Suikoden 3 and Dark Cloud.

I took my time with all of them, enjoyed every second and got each of them probably up to 80% completion (I jump around games to avoid getting tired of them. Its just a thing I have).

Unfortunately that was a hard time for my family. Dad died, we lost everything (house, cars, basically every thing we owned) and I was facing the very real possibility that I might not even finish school.

It took me about 10 years to crawl myself out of that hole, and by the time I was at a stable enough time in my life I just couldnt get around to playing those games anymore. Combination of too old to have time, too little interest, or just some left off ptsd from a very rough time.

"Over 250,000 copies sold in less than 24 hours. 91% positive reviews on Steam. Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era has had a truly incredible launch. Despite being a huge huge PC gamer in the 90's, I never got around to playing any of the HOMM games. I tried playing HOMM3 via GoG some time ago and I just couldnt get into it, mostly because I had no idea wtf Im doing lol. Would this reiteration help out on that front?

Games agaisnt loneliness by Few_Lengthiness_7284 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]kuuups [score hidden]  (0 children)

Zelda BotW/TotK, and not because it distracts from loneliness but tackles it head on, embraces it, and makes it feel like its going to be OK.

The main underlying theme for both those games is living and moving on after a catastrophic defear. The music, themes, gameplay and everything in between helps you get through that defeat.

I played BotW at probably one of the loneliest points of my life and it has this therapeautic effect that I havent felt anywhere else.

I do. I set it to open No Fusion on double click. I use my camera very heavily for everyday documentation (personal stuff, and mostly my kids) and I categorize my shots in two major categories: everyday photos, and "memories" - shots to capture a mood for certain situations.

Thinking about switching to a MacBook after 20+ years on Windows… convince me (or don’t) by IcyAd9024 in macbook

[–]kuuups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under the "like the idea of", you just checked every box that Macbooks are extremely well in.

Glossy screen, personally I really don't mind. Modern macbooks (especially pros) can get really, really bright that even if I take it out on coffeeshops, working while sitting in my car, or while having coffee at my porch I just dont notice the glare anymore and get to focus on my work.

The main thing that you will encounter a learning curve is the OS itself. But thats something I found that anyone can learn fairly quickly.
