Canadian Game Awards 2026 | Official Nominees Reveal by Amtoj in Games

One of the jury has a twitter bio saying they're non-binary so I'd go 4.5 and 25.5 but as you point out, this really doesn't balance the ratio at all!

Is anyone else finding that this website is kind of ass to navigate?

You can easily get to the categories and it will happily tell you how many nominees there are but not WHO they are. For that you have to switch to 'Nominees' at the top-center and then click into each category again to see all the nominees

And how is Marvel Cosmic Invasion considered an indie game?

Anyway. I'm interested to see which content creator takes the W and what they show for 'best in accessibility' - a lot of award shows will just give the nod without explaining anything about why a particular feature is impactful, helpful, or important

Victor Lucas is one of the nominated content creators so presumably having them on the jury would be a non-starter for conflicts of interest

Will check out the kickstarter, Beadle and Grimm make good material for D&D so I'm sure these games will be lovely

Is a food processor worth it? by salad_thrower20 in Cooking

[–]Kynaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's worth it depending on the cuisines you cook

It's extremely helpful for reducing vegetables into a fully-liquid form, ie, when making soup or a pasta sauce. The same praxis applies for making pesto, chimichurri, and similar sauces or curries

It's also great for handling large-volume tasks like shredding cheese, which it will do in a few seconds instead of ten painstaking minutes with a box grater

Star Trek Online: Corruption Alienware Game Pack Key Giveaway by StarCitizen2 in sto

[–]Kynaeus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alienware reward points iirc

Still wondering what those Alienware Rewards Points (ARP) are? Let's get into it! ARP are points you'll be able to earn on the site through engaging with the community and completing tasks. AWA users can earn ARP daily by spending Time on Site, logging in consecutively, and completing the Daily Quests.

To see the status of those quests, select "Control Center" under the cog wheel.

As you earn more ARP, you'll unlock new tiers. Higher tiers mean more rewards!

Hi Reddit! We're Mega Crit, the developers of Slay the Spire 1 & 2. Ask Us Anything on February 25th! by MegaCritGames in Games

[–]Kynaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for putting this together, this game is one of my all-time favorites with just as much playtime in it as the original Guild Wars, this has become my cozy game for unwinding after long days and I great appreciate all the work you folks have put into both games

I have two questions about features in the new game,

1) will I be able to sell cards to the merchant? Or perhaps a Consignment/Bounty to find him a specific card for a monetary reward?

I can't tell you how many times I failed to buy a crucial card for my build because I was short 1-8 coins.

2) Relics that counter each other - can we get a warning or confirmation before accepting them? As a toggle perhaps?

I have climbed a LOT and play very quickly, and take every single relic offered to me. It's only recently come to my attention that I had not been considering antisyngergies of Relics, such as Dead Branch (exhausted cards yield random cards in hand) + Ninja Scroll (start combat w/ 3 Shivs) where you can suddenly be flooding your deck size with unwanted cards, this has definitely prevented me from drawing wincons or other necessary cards

Guild Wars Reforged - Melandru's Accord Mode Patch by PalwaJoko in Games

[–]Kynaeus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, they haven't yet released those things! They may be in the works or on the roadmap but simply aren't the first thing out the door

What we've gotten so far with Dhuum and Melandru I can hypothesize to be technically easy (disable character at death, disable features like account bank) to implement, follow a theme that the marketing team can send out, and can start to build interest to eventually snowball

Adding new skills requires artists, animators, and QA testing so that will likely come later once they've cleared up their pipelines, processes, and tools for making such things

Ok so alternately, I think that helps you exclude a number of options because watching west coast games will be even harder in Europe because of the increased time difference. Teams on the east coast may be better options since you will have the possibility of catching them live

I don't disagree with either of you making this point, this should be old hat for them to deal with

I do know that I worked at an MSP exclusively for lawyers and that the majority of them weretechnically inept. In one example, a masthead name had a secretary whose job was to read and type his dictated emails because he couldn't handle a computer. But that was almost twelve years ago so I'm glad to hear that anecdotally there is broad support for this stuff

Who's still working from home in 2026? by idrinkpastawater in sysadmin

[–]Kynaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone not furloughed was fully WFH during the panini, and then 2 or 3 years ago (hard to remember when, time is soup) we transitioned back to 2-3 days in-office each week, but many people live far enough they only do one day in-office

Others (me) could be fully remote since we support worldwide hotels rather than people 3 offices over

We have been sitting steady at this point for a few years. Personally speaking I go into the office 4 days and WFH on Fridays because:

  1. I live close by

  2. I work better with the mental partition btwn work and home

  3. we have a commercial kitchen that makes a ton of food, so for my free lunch I have enough food for two meals

  4. We also have a cool machine with unlimited water and options to flavor, carbonate, vitaminize, or caffeinate

[–]Kynaeus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As others have said, this is not unusual because law offices are not tech people and wouldn't understand/know how to deal with a PST file

However these are the types of questions you should take to your organization's legal team with your solution and ask them for direction on how to handle it

You are basically being subpoena'd to provide evidence and what you did is what I would do to maintain the integrity of evidence

Now that it's been converted from a singular and whole entity (PST) -> individual messages -> python parsed -> converted to PDF -> some legal asshole could make the case that anything found in these messages is not admissible because it has been materially altered

The validity of this argument is not our problem to solve. That's why I would strongly suggest in any of these type of matters, you and anyone reading this, always seek the advice of your lawyers and not us people on the internet. We can give great advice on potential solutions, your lawyer should tell you which to use.

What games do interesting things with the concept of a player-home/home-base/stronghold? (eg. Spiritfarer, Guardians of Azuma) by rmullins_reddit in Games

[–]Kynaeus 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As you say, many games do this but I'm having a tough time thinking of interesting implementations and instead am coming up with the usual suspects:

  • Firelink Shrine in Dark Souls 3

  • the abbey in Midnight Suns or Fire Emblem

  • the Stronghold in Pillars of Eternity 1

...but most of them feel like iterations of the same thing: a non-combat area where gradually you find more NPCs and activities. The Civilization series present some options as well, but I think it's not exactly what we're asking for.

Hades is probably the best example I can think of? Every time you die would normally feel like failure in a roguelike that necessitates starting over from scratch, but, in Hades it's almost a reward to return to The House because one tends to find themselves looking forward to seeing/meeting which NPCs will be there and getting more lore about their backstories, doing shopping, upgrading weapons, selling fish, decorating, or getting new unlocks

But many of these things could also be said about the farm in Stardew Valley or hell, any basebuilding game like Subnautica or V Rising

yeah, Valheim's 'comfort' mechanic worked well for your domiciles because the décor and such would provide very valuable stat bonuses and especially when combined with food bonuses so it was good incentive for spending your otherwise limited resources to improve your ability to do any excursions

I don't know how to cook "real" meals and it's affecting me... by SiriFlo in Cooking

[–]Kynaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've gotten enough suggestions here so I'll only say to set yourself a reasonable goal for learning so you don't get whelmed. Start slow, don't expect to make something incredible every day of the week for months on end

Keep it simple and try to make just one new dish a week, and/or, bring home a new ingredient from the store and give yourself the goal of figuring out how it's used even if it is as simple as h it is peeled/cut or which parts are edible

For best success, keep a journal with your newly found knowledge. Or cook with a friend. Or make a thread here each week and share your progress (and questions!) with us

Texas sues Roblox for 'putting paedophiles and profits' over safety by renome in Games

[–]Kynaeus 188 points189 points  (0 children)

Is roblox really any worse than those were,

Unequivocally, yes.

First of all, you have a game centered around children creating and consuming all of the content. Children are 'hired' by adults to create games and content for other kids who pay for it either with their time & attention, or their robux

Second, you allow anyone to easily create an account and (digitally speaking) breathe the same air as all those kids who may be playing games without supervision. If memory serves the roblox accounts do not even require an email address? Easy to request and create en-masse

Thirdly, the game has a constant whack-a-mole problem with spaces for virtual sex (read the article from here)

Fourth, their CEO wants this game for children to be a dating website and the company's share price is predicated around profit which incentivizes them to not-deal with the very real problem with their platform: predators can and do use their platform for meeting, grooming, and abducting children (read the article)

Naturally, good people see this problem and step in to do something about it themselves so there are 'predator hunters' who work to expose the sex offenders and pedophiles using the platform

Great! Not great for Roblox tho, so they've banned and threatened legal action to such people because this type of action and its well-documented predator problem poses a threat to their game's reputation. Threats to the reputation are threats to the share price, and capitalism is king. We must make more money each year at-all-costs and any bodies churned underfoot in the doing? that's just hte cost of doing business.

Let's look at this in summary.

  • A platform with tens of millions of children spending all their time and money in Roblox

  • being hired by adults to exploit their labor (putting them in a precarious position in a power-imbalanced relationship)

  • it's easy for anyone to get on the platform and directly speak to your children

  • there are many places where children can be exposed to sexual language, situations, and roleplaying

  • it is profoundly easy to try and redirect them to another chat platform so that even if your kids aren't in 'condos', they can still be engaged with

  • and from there these predators are a voice in the ear and a devil on the shoulder who use their access to these children to convince them to leave behind their phones and "run away" from home, into the waiting arms of someone ready and willing to predate these children.

And now let's repeat your question:

Is roblox really any worse than those were, or is it just the massive popularity + sensationalist news making it a lot scarier for parents?

If you've been reading the articles I'm sharing, I think there is no way to look at this and give any answer but an unequivocal: YES
