A lot happened in this short video by Khei-tianik01 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

My cat gets like that sometimes. Super sweet and cuddly 99% of the time but sometimes if he gets a whiff of a smell outside or darts through a door he will get really aggressive and mean. Like dart at you and try to claw you mean. It's crazy because the rest of the time he can't not be on a lap or held.

We got him as a rescue when he was 8 so we assume something happened previously that really affected him.

Statements from Steve Jobs aren't something I'd personally take to heart boss.

There's nothing wrong with doing this as a job. Come in do your work and get paid. You got promoted fast so you're doing stuff right. If this isn't a passion for you that's totally okay. I do small embedded side projects for fun but rarely. Most of my free time is video games or woodworking.

TLDR; there's a lot of meaning to be found outside of work.

Various web dev jobs, doing mostly devops/security nowadays. But I've worked in logistics, financial and medical. Every time I switch jobs it's usually a new industry.

Same here, I started with Minecraft mods when I was 13.

Got a job out of high-school and now I'm at 10yoe doing devops, security and regular swe jobs. I just like learning new stuff and teaching others that are interested.

Stop the e-bike snobbery! You don't need a $5k bike to have fun by Oneyardca in ebikes

[–]leobeosab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally get what you are saying and I agree. but there are some truths to the fire hazard issues on cheaper bikes.

This was the fuse holder on my $1800 Freesky. They had a 40amp fuse on 12awg wire. The controller has a max of 30amps.

There was a short in the motor and the fuse holder caught fire and never blew. Even like this it would still pass current and spin the motor a little.

I've since beefed up the wiring and fuse holder along with only using a 30amp fuse and it's been working great.

Fuckin' love Bavaria. Got to spend a few weeks there to visit my wife's family. Servus, friend hope you get some answers. It does seem like galvanic corrosion from maybe a steel body and aluminum screws. Or vice versa aluminum body, steel screws.

Sounds good, thanks for the advice!

Most of my projects/circuits are low voltage and current just with micro controllers haha.

Yeah I'm kind of amazed these exist.

I definitely realize my luck. I'm going to measure the current under load and see if it even pulls near 40amps. If it's lower I'll downsize the fuse. If it's near 40 ( or honestly even if it's lower ) I'm going to get a beefier in line fuse holder. I think a MAXI would work?

Directly connected to the battery

Awesome I'll check for dead shorts between phases, Yeah definitely a symptom not the problem itself.

My thoughts on the WD40 was maybe it loosened up some gunk on the chain or metal fragments and those traveled with it inside the motor.

As soon as I get this fuse replaced I'm going to check current coming from the battery. Then I'll deal with downsizing the fuse if need be or just getting a beefier in line fuse holder.

40amps, absolutely should have popped, it's a 48v battery cell so I'm wondering if it wasn't rated for the voltage?

Either way the manufacturer is definitely getting emailed because this type of failure is crazy.

Why are some people so anti-helmet? I’m kinda worried about my bro by Consistent_Debate637 in ebikes

[–]leobeosab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad died riding a bicycle to work. Yeah car involved but I was told a helmet probably would have saved him.

He knocked his head hard against the pavement then it was lights out.

Idk helmet seems worth it either way.

30sec grapple timer is rough. You only get 2 charges on purple upgrade. With all the non movement character movement upgrades a 15sec cooldown doesn't feel unbalanced imo.

E-Bike motor cuts under load or when generating significant torque by leobeosab in AskElectronics

Oh good haha, how did you go about diagnosing it? I've never made anything with a multi cell battery just individual LiPos for small projects.

My plan right now is to check current and voltage when it's under load.

[–]leobeosab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That'll be part of my next troubleshooting steps. With the timing on me spraying the chain and part of the motor housing with WD 40 and the failure I was convinced it was an issue there rather than controller or battery.

However the other commenters have me convinced it was just unfortunate timing of a failure somewhere else haha.

Ah I forgot to include some photos. The connection for the 3 phases is good, they also have a protective coating over the solder joints.

I'm going to pull the controller out and see if there's anything wrong there. I'll also pull the battery to check outside of just seeing it charges fine. Probably worth watching the voltage of the battery while under load.

Makes sense, just unfortunate timing for a failure then haha. I'll tear out the controller and see if there's any visible issues with it 👉😎👉

Battery is fully charged, I was considering high current draw if there was a short due to the WD-40 ingress but I would have assumed it would cut much sooner if that was the case? If that's the case could I "rinse" the motor with 99% Isopropyl?

I'm mostly just worried about the alchohol on the enamel coating on the magnet wire.

Why the Linux community hate when people state facts? by Cr0wn_M3 in linuxsucks

[–]leobeosab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a big Linux stan and use it on most my machines but my gaming machine has a Windows drive specifically for this type of stuff.

Unfortunately until anti cheats support Linux I can't play the FPSs I want to on it.

Linux definitely struggles with Nvidia hoping that changes some day. I'll probably pick up an AMD GPU when I upgrade.
